Lucas' comment re: our previous funding of Saddam's regime is historically accurate. So, what's your beef?
Note: I read an article that said Lucas wrote RotS like 20 years ago. So it's not like he intentionally set out to draw parallels. So, am I to assume you're not bothered by such vastly absolutist statements like "you're either with us or against us?"
Reagan co-opting Star Wars was worse than his attempt to co-opt The Boss' Born in the USA.
I seriously doubt Lucas wrote ROTS 20 years ago. Ten years? Maybe. It isn't Lucas I am so much worried about, but people who will see it as such.
And it was George H.W. Bush who tired to use Born in the USA, I thought.
OK, did some fact-checking. I saw things that said Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Dole.
The ones that were most reliable said Reagan, though.
NOpe, during Reagan's re-election campaign in 1984, the same year Born was released, he tried to use it on the campaign trail. Bruce sued and Reagan stopped using it.
And the article did indeed say Lucas had written all three prequels during the 80s. I'm sure he touched them up over the years, but the genesis is definitely a couple decades old.
