As a firefighter, just let me set the record straight. Funding to fire departments for health and fitness is not pork. Heart attacks are the number one killer of firefighters and part of Homeland Security's Fire Act Grants state that indeed the money can be used for firefighter health and fitness. If we are not fit, we cannot deal with the aftermath of a terrorist incident.
I did read somewhere (can't find it now) that the Washington D.C. Fire Department used their grant to buy bulletproof vests for their dogs. If D.C. is that bad then maybe they should leave them in the stations. Now that IS pork!
