Ryan,
You're right about Plaistine's president's talking inhibiting establishment of a Palistinian state.
I see the problem as frightened men fearful of loosing supremicy over women if western ideas gain too much ground. After all, Israel allowed a woman to be Prime Minister. Who knows how long it will be until a woman is president of the USA?
Do you think the conservative men in America will allow a woman to be President?
The Roman Catholic Church and the Southern Baptists won't allow women to be priests or ministers. Like the Taliban, subjugation of women is the hush hush core issue. It is all part of the 'same sex marriage' and abortion issue. Who is going to control women?
The cure is to follow Jesus' teaching and love everyone just as they are. Live your truth and let others be impressed with your joy in living. Then they can ask, "What do you belive that gives you so much joy?" If you reach that point, you have a found A believeR.
I'm uptite

Ummm, having been raised Southern Baptist, I can tell you have done nothing to learn about them. Not all SBC'ers refuse to allow women to be ministers. It is left to the individual church. Further, there is no subjugation of women in the SBC. It is no "hush hush core issue." It has nothing to do with SSM and very little to do with abortion.
Clearly, you are not loving everyone as they are or even bothering to respect others' beliefs. Perhaps you should heed Christ's teaching about removing the plank from your eye before pointing out the speck in another's.

I agree that this is a giant step backwards, but the Palestinian leaders should take the opportunity to distance themselves from these remarks and condemn them, along with the rest of the world. Of course, with a renewed conflict in the region focused on Islamic Jihad, such a condemnation could potentially cost Abbas his leadership and maybe even his life. With several of the terrorist groups in the region supported by Iran, it is difficult to imagine that things will not escalate over the next few weeks.
Combine this with the findings of Syria's role in the assassination of the former Lebanese PM and you have the foundation for a mess that could make Iraq look like a tourist destination. I only hope our leadership works towards peace and not further escalation, and that cooler heads on all sides prevail.
