All I'll say at this point is that the investigation is not over, and Rove is certainly not safe yet. It took almost 2 years for us to stop arresting journalist and to actually go after the people guilty of a crime.
Also, I'll point out that it doesn't take a conspiracy nut to add 2+2 and get 4 - all I mean is that this administration has a history of smearing its opponents at any cost. It is not difficult to imagine Bush/Cheney going after this guy by outing his wife, and using their aids to leak the name.
Brooks is trying to find something positive in a situation that is wholly negative right now for the White House. His attempts only serve to prove how out of touch certain members of the right are with reality. Far from shouting conspiracy, most reputable Dems have been fairly silent, just sitting back and watching the mighty Republican empire crumble.
Brooks is being dishonest about the "affair de Plame." He knows this, but like Judith Miller he serves his master well. He is fully cognizant that the outing of Valerie Plame is standard operating behavior by Karl Rove & Company. This will all come out in the coming trial of Libby and Brooks will be discredited. Why the New York Times puts up with this blantant dishonesty from Judith Miller and Brooks about the Bush Administration is anyone's guess. Had someone in the Clinton adminstration done this, there would have been lynch mobs of Republicans to string up the traitor. Now it is just a little old political mistake. Not a big deal. Well, kids we are at war! In the past, people who revealed national secrets in time of war were shot as traitors. Republicans please rally around the traitor Libby. The Democrats are begging you.

Brooks is right on. Just listen to the comments and you see why the inclusion of that Essay is so right on.
It is fun to see the left foam at the mouth and call for executions, so long that it's the executions of those evil evil men on the R side of the tracks.
