You know, its interesting, in principle I don't disagree with all that much of what you have here. Perhaps your means of achieving "smaller government" wouldn't really please me though.
Also, I prefer a more progressive tax system...then again, under the current system, the wealthy can afford to hire accountants who can find enough loopholes that they end up paying less than middle and working class people anyway as a percentage. I don't know about a flat tax, but certainly a simpilfied tax system would be great.
Otherwise, its amazing how much people with different views can agree - if only the people in Washington would stop arguing long enough to realize it, maybe they'd actually get something accomplished.

A progressive tax system was on Marx's list of ways to achieve the perfect socialist society. That, and a public education system.
