Gravatar I don't think Carter acted out of lack of courage; he screwed up, admittedly, but I think, unlike the current administration, it can be said that Carter was genuine in his concerns and efforts. His actions may have prolonged the crisis, but it did not "allow" it to occur. It was a difficult situation, and there is no way to know how any other action would have resulted, since they voluntarily released the hostages on Reagan's inauguration day.

That said, however...what do you have in mind when you say "we need to make sure our leaders have courage enough to act in the best interests of freedom and human life"? That is a fine sentiment in principle, but can be skewed a number of ways, not all of them practical or desirable.

Gravatar I don't think I implied that Carter could have prevented the crisis, but he could have worked to ended it sooner. It cost him the Presidency.

I am not sure how to handle Iran. It is especially delicate situation. It is in the best interest of the world for radical Islmaists not to have the bomb. We should do all we can to prevent that end while minimizing collateral damage (American troops, Iranian civillians, Israelis, etc.).

Gravatar Agreed 100%. Its a dangerous situation, but I'm not really sure what to do about it.
