Nah...the back page is what I read first in any magazine. You'd be surprised to read statistical analysis that supports this reading habit in millions around the country.

While I generally find her assessment of 2005 very much up to date and not stuck in 1968 (at which time Nixon was NOT the most hated man in America - and hesitate to point out that Dems were running the country at that point in time, though admittedly not very well), I do think she is unrealistic about Bush's optimism. She's correct that Carter's realistic assessment (and, at times, poor leadership) cost him the presidency. Bush must remain positive, but he must temper that with an awareness of reality that he often lacks - mainly that 2005 was a rough year for both him and the nation. He could even be so bold as to admit a mistake or two. Of course, since admitting that his own political beliefs are just a whole series of mistakes isn't realistic, I guess people like Anna Quindlen and myself will never be happy .

Touché on Nixon. He would not be most hated man in America until Johnson left office, I gather.
I still think that Quindlen is full of herself
