Gravatar I wish I'd known about this! I would have been there in an instant.

Thanks for this, Ryan.

Gravatar Did anyone ask Protack if he'd ever considered running for school board, county council or state rep instead of always getting pasted at the statewide level?

Gravatar Protack is an idiot! I wrote Ting a fairly long e-mail last night when I got home. Last night's College Republican's meeting was very entertaining! And you are right, how does he expect to stand against a Democrat when people in his own party do not even back him?

Gravatar Ting was impressive, Protack his usual self. Sorry I left in the middle of it all, had my first night of work at 9. I just looked at approval rating for Tom Carper, he has 63 to 30 something. Doesn't bode well for us Reps.

Gravatar Republicans in DE approve of Carper 51-39 (overall rating is 63-2. Among those who call themselves "conservative," he is polling 54-37.

I think Ting would be a strong candidate for any other race - I'm not sure if using him as Carper's sacraficial lamb would be the best use of him (esp. with Protack so ready and willing). Then again, who am I to give advice to Republicans?

Gravatar Carper is beatable, and his war chest needs to be spent on him, and not on other Democrats in the state.

Protack is a lamb that a penny would not have to be spent on.

Gravatar It seems to me that our State Party is currently in desperate need of a "re-facing." What they do not understand is that extreme conservative positions do NOT win elections in Delaware. Year after year we are subjected to candidates that fit the Party's mold and year after year we lose.
Mike Protack does not fit the Party's mold. Is the fact that he is a moderate really that terrible? Moderate Democrat Tim Kaine just won the Governors Mansion in Virginia. He ran on Republican issues because Virginia is a red state. His predecessor, Mark Warner, did the same in 2001.Do you think the Virginia Democratic Party opposed this? Not a chance. They have learned to operate as a minority party and are now reaping the benefits. They are winners. We are losers. I suggest that we take a page from their playbook if we ever hope to send another Republican to Washington.

Gravatar Mike Protack is not moderate, he's just unprincipled. He played up his "conservative" values the entire night time. And Delaware isn't as blue as you think.

Gravatar Not a moderate? He may tout conservative values, but he also supports a national health care plan and pension reform. He is pro-life and against the death penalty. I don’t think an American politician can be more moderate than Protack.
You may be right that Delaware is not a blue as I may have claimed. However, our cause is still not helped by the failed Party leadership. Are you aware that they have still to pick a candidate to challenge Biden for attorney general? We need to put up a strong candidate here if any Republican is to stand a chance against Carper. Ting would win this race by a landslide, but again, the Party has other ideas.

Gravatar I never suggested Protack was indeed conservative...he claims he's both. If I had to give him a label...it might be "pro-labor conservative Democrat." And he's just seems unelectable as a person. None of the CRs walked away with a favorable impression of him, and they should have been easily won over.
