So outrageous it was worth posting twice.

Anybody else ready to pull our troops out of Iraq and hand it over to the UN's capable hands?

Gravatar Well, I think I'm ready to pull out period, but not necessarily to hand it over to the U.N.
Yeah, yeah, I know, certain lefties are going to think I agree with them, but I don't. And they have not convinced me of anything. I am conceding that occupation and democratization have not worked, but the motives behind the Iraq invasion-namely, removing Saddam from power- were right.

Gravatar I still think that things are better than they seem in Iraq, and that the recent unrest could be the final breath of unrest before the country starts heading in the right direction on the whole. One good sign is that the Kurds were instumental in holding the country together rather than let it decend into Sunni/Shi'a war. Since the Kurds are normally the Quebeckers of Iraq, merely wanting to form Kurdistan, this is a huge statement about how they feel about Iraq.

Beyond the violence last week, there were many preace protests across Iraq, even within the Sunni Triangle.

There is still struggle, but I think December 05- December 06 is the critical year for the country in terms of the US being able to slowly back off.

Gravatar Kurds are not equivalent to Quebecois. Quebec seems likely to agree to open federalism that permits them independent representation internationally. I don't think that is true of the Kurds because there are far more cultural differences between Kurds and the rest of Iraq than between the Quebecois and the rest of Canada. With Sunnis and Shi'ites attacking each other back and forth, and the country getting closer to a civil war, it's time to leave.
Am I going to be going to any Cindy Sheehan rallies? No. But am I going to keep repeating "It's not as bad as it seems" until I believe it? No.
