Gravatar Yeah - I'm stunned Bush was this politically stupid about this. Don't get me wrong, it irritates the hell out of me, but he really is usually a skilled politician, or at least surrounds himself with people who are. He dropped the ball on this one.

On the other hand, I would put the people in Dubai who made this decision at the top of my hero list - they really were politically smart and sensitive to international diplomacy. Kudos to them.

Hopefully this whole debacle will raise the issue of port security and keep it in the public spotlight until some of the larger problems can be resolved.

Gravatar Sorry Mike, but improving port security was never the issue; it was all about beating up on the president. Chuck Shumer and Harry Reid can now hang a Mission Accomplished banner in Congress.

Gravatar I can't wait for us to invade Iran, a nation with a population three times as much as Iraq. I wonder how we'll fill troop supplies for this fancy excursion?

There won't be troops - it'll be an air war.

Gravatar Even Fox News showed at least 70% of Americans opposing this deal in one of their latest polls. Why? Because the President, whom I'd say 70% of Fox News watchers generally support, has been pushing national security down our throats since 9/11 and rightfully so. It was the platform he ran on that got him back into the White House. He's sending confusing messages to his supporters by backing this deal. Not to mention the ties to UAE and Dubai that his family *supposedly* has. It just plain smelled bad - even to Republicans. You can't blame the democrats for taking advantage of the opportunity.

And to correct some democrats and media outlets -- UAE was not going to be in charge of SECURITY. They were leasing an area of the port. Security wasn't going to change hands. Personally though I'm glad the deal was struck down -- it could have been a threat to our national security.

Gravatar If the USA once again violates the UN Charter and attacks Iran w/o the SC's approval, then the UN should kick the USA out of the UN for being a dangerous, rogue & terrorist state. It should then move the UN headquarters out of the USA.

The USA deserves to be isolated until it learns to act like a civilized nation instead of some bully and yahoo.

Gravatar The problem with your idea Dana, is that if the UN kicks the US out (besides not kicking out North Korea or the Sudan, or even Iran) the UN loses all the funding we give it. Even Soros can't keep that funding black hole afloat.
