Don't you think the SD law was designed to fail? They seek to ban abortion in cases of rape and incest. That sets off my Spidey sense. Most of the people are anti-abortion have The Big 3 for exceptions; Rape, incest and life of the mother. By omitting the first two, I think the pols in Dakota want to fire up the base without actually winning the case. Call me cynical.

Gravatar I believe the SD law was desgined to become a court case, to define the federalism limits on abortion, since Roe is a huge gray area.

Gravatar I wish I was a woman so I could get an abortion just to spite conservatives.

I think I'm gonna buy stock in wire coat hangers. I'm bound to turn a couple hundred bucks into pure millions!

Gravatar Obviously, getting pro-choice liberals into office is a more effective way of ensuring the availability of abortion in Delaware. But getting the issue out -- making the public aware of the possibility that abortion will be made illegal -- is an important step towards getting pro-choice liberals into office. Advertisements are one way to make the public aware of the concern; protests are another. They are not a method I would choose -- I think ads are more effective -- but they're not entirely useless.

And if you think that protests are a uniquely liberal form of political speech, you're clearly wrong. Have you never seen anti-abortion activists protesting outside an abortion clinic, or outside the Delaware state house? Have you forgotten the massive protests the GOP held in Florida during the 2000 election recount? Those weren't ineffective. Remember the rallies in Alabama on the Supreme Courthouse steps when the court ruled that Chief Justice Roy Moore's granite monument to the Ten Commandments had to be removed from the courthouse atrium? Indeed, Evangelical Christians have big protest rallies in DC against justices they perceive to be activist or insufficiently pro-religion about four times a year these days.

Gravatar And if you think that protests are a uniquely liberal form of political speech, you're clearly wrong.

I don't, and I am an active conservative "potester" at times. I just think this particular protest was completely pointless, and they could have been a lot more productive. Though as a pro-lifer, I am glad they are being unproductive.
