Kick them out? Yeah, it's just SOOO simple, Ryan. Totally impractical and dumb, to be honest. Do I like that they're here illegally? Nope...but does kicking them out seem a good thing to do? Nope. We need to change our laws here to allow MORE immigrants into the country. We need to streamline the process so that citizenship is easier to attain. I'm actually pretty much in support of amnesty. Go around to every illegal and say..."Do you want to naturalize?" If they say yes, start and finish the process in a month's time. Screw the required "history" lessons and English assimilation. If they're first generation-ers, then it's fine. Their children will learn English in our schools. Simple as that. A month and they're citizens. If they say "NO" and they don't want to naturalize, THEN kick them out. The only people who should be in this country are those who WANT to be participatory citizens. Of course, run the required background checks on the Arab looking ones. No one ever said I was politically correct.

So, then all the folks who are documented and/or applied for citizenship and are wading through the sea of red tape for years get to stay in line while illegals move to the front.
Great.
Maybe the legal immigrants, descendants of legal immigrants, documented workers, and naturalized citizens ought to have a boycott and maybe we can get preferential treatment under the law. Oh, that's right, we are preferred by the IRS already.
Nevermind.

Anonymous,
I say get rid of the red tape for ALL. Documented and otherwise.Open the doors. Let 'em spill in! Just keep an eye on the ones with towels on their heads. We don't have to worry about Mexicans blowing us up. They're Christians.

I have no qualms about letting more people here legally. But the law is the law, regardless if our president chooses to execute it.

Yeah...laws are laws...but if you go throughout the history of the US you'll find STUPID laws. Our immigration laws are just that...antiquated and STUPID.

I, too, don't mind Mexicans immigrating to the U.S, in general. They often bring strong family values in accordance with their Catholicism.
However, they are entering illegally, big problem, while so many others are waiting and waiting to get in legally. Giving them all amnesty (again---we've done this before) only encourages others to come across the border illegally. They don't learn English in our schools or otherwise but get taught in Spanish and try to make us a bilingual nation (granted, we Americans probably shouldn't be monoglots, but illegals shouldn't be the ones demanding we change.) They do not generally become U.S. citizens with their allegiances to their native nation relinquished. They send much of their earnings back to Mexico instead of reinvesting in our economy here. They wave around Mexican flags which gives me the impression that they don't have that deep an affinity to our nation. They are making threats and saying they are going to "take the country back from us". They clog up our hospitals and social services and schools, overburdening the border states esp who just can't afford it anymore.
I'm generally a soft-hearted person and am sympathetic toward people who want a better life for themselves and their children, but there are a lot of issues around "just give them amnesty and be done with it". If they want to be citizens de los Estados Unidos, they should act like it and be held accountable.

Big mistake assuming future guestworkers will be Catholic.
If there is a large legal guestworker program, agencies will fly in poor bastards from all over the world who will work even cheaper than Mexicans.

Exactly.
So if I stole a car last year and I took really good care of it, how come the state won't send me the title documents saying I own the car?

It’s time to throw those employers who hire illegal aliens out of the country. If we severely penalize the employers two things will happen; employers will have to pay more to legal immigrants and if no one hires illegal aliens they most likely will return to their home country. I use the term illegal aliens because immigrants are those who abide by immigrants laws.
The excuse given that Americans don’t want the low paying jobs is BS. Because the jobs that once were well paid are being done for less due to the illegal employers exploiting the illegal aliens. Do not disrespect those trying to seek a better life because employers are selling this country out.
Our government is reluctant to pursue illegal employers with full force because it will reduce campaign contributions to politicians. The system has
done quite well creating the diversion that the illegal aliens are the problem when in fact it is the illegal employers who are the root cause.
If Delaware is the so called state that started a nation then we should be the state that saved the nation by being the first to have tough laws severely penalizing illegal employers. Maybe the legal immigrants should take a day off and surround legislative hall in Delaware demanding action against illegal employers.

OR... you could support the Campaign of John Jaremchuk, who wants to do just that!!!(www.jaremchuk2006.com)
His ordinance to fine employers of illegal aliens $1,000 per incident was defeated by his Dem. counterparts in the Town of Elsmere last May at the urging of Governor Minner! Now he has decided to take the fight to the state level by running to be the next 13th District Representative to the DE General Assembly.

Here's a thought; can we charge the Mexican government with dumping? They are engaged in exporting a commodity (labor) to the US at a cost lower than the market price (wages) here but higher than in Mexico, which distorts the US labor market. The illegals send money home, which helps the Mexican economy, and is effectively their second largest source of income. I think we could make a case for counterveiling duties and other economic sanctions on this.

I support John Jaremchuk going after employers 100% and any legislator who doesn’t support holding employers accountable needs to resign from office. I don’t like the ideal of stopping people because of the color of their skin. We have illegal from many countries and I don’t think it’s fair to single out Mexicans. John Jaremckuk has the right idea and real solution in going after employers and I don’t see anything wrong with verifying status for property rental.
As far aw wire transfers of funds maybe there should be a 10% federal wire surcharge tax for those who don’t have state ID.

Not to argue details, just to clarify a bit about Ordinance 447, it was never in the language nor was it the intention of the ordinance to pull people over on suspicion of being illegal. The $100 fine that would have been imposed would only have been enforceable as a secondary offence. The individual in question would have had to have been breaking some other law at the time of questioning. Also, the questioning would have only taken place after the Public Safety Officer had established probable cause (i.e. the individual presenting an international driver’s license as a primary form of ID). Again, I am not trying to argue details, I was just very upset at the various rumors and scare tactics that certain groups (Voices without Borders) started pertaining to this ordinance.
