Gravatar Check it out at Unity08.com. It's not really about moderates, as far as I see.

Gravatar I actually just last week launched a new wiki dedicated to cataloging and providing a forum for developing US public policy proposals - www.USPolicypedia.com. If you enjoyed Jonathan Alter's column, I think you will enjoy the site as well.

Gravatar DT, I stand corrected, although I was just going by what Alter said.

Christian, I'll definately check it out.

Gravatar Interesting website and idea. Ryan, are you asserting that moderates lack conviction? I've found that not to be the case. The often have strong convictions; its just that they don't fall in line with any one political party. For instance, many Christians may want the government to do more for the poor (very Democrat) but be against legal abortions (very Republican). This person becomes a default moderate but has a consistent ideology. In some areas, it is the parties that lack consistency, and not the moderates who have trouble fitting into one mould or another.

Gravatar To me, moderate suggests "centrist." Convictions, even if they cross the aisle in the same person, are convictions none the less.

Moderate comes from "moderation," and I think of people who are truely center of the road, constantly working for some kind of "compromise" or "bipartisanship."

Gravatar My take on Unity 08 is that it's goal is to help candidates who don't do well in the early primarys (Iowa, New Hampshire etc) stay in the race by saying "look how well I am doing on the bipartisan Unity 08 poll".
