I don't think the nations around Japan will ever forgive it for its militaristic past. I wonder if China will ever retaliate as it becomes a world power to be reckoned with. I hope not, because it will not be pretty.
I think if Japan is going to be forgiven, they need to actually act with some contrition for once. Unlike the Germans who have a deep and abiding shame for their actions in WWII, the Japanese have largely whitewashed their history about the war.
