I would want to save Barney instead of Bolton. Can we just make Barney the UN ambassador?

I don't think Barney (or Miss Beazley) is going anywhere. The Scots and Laura are going to be permanent fixtures.

I'd like to see the president nominate Lincoln Chafee for the position, just to be mean. What the heck, he doesn't have a job anymore, and we can watch Lugar rip him to shreds for a week or so. Then the nomination can be withdrawn, and Tony Snow can riff about how the administration didn't factor in what a douchebag Chafee is, but since he thought he knew so much better than Mr. Bolton he deserved the opportunity to demonstrate it.

I like and respect Senator Biden very much; however, I think Bolton's record of what he has done during the recess appointment is worthy of consideration. Let's be honest; its not like he can mess up the UN any more than it already is.

Hey Ryan!
this is quite a snazzy blog you have. I just wanted to give you a little background on how i understood the Biden/Indian American snafu since after I thought about it, I wasn't nearly as offended. So i agree he totally should have said small business owners instead of what he said however when i read his explaination he said "oh well what i meant is that people used to immigrate and work for dupont as chemists and stuff and now they're branching out into small businesses." so i thought about it, and i live on 202, the main suburban drag in wilmington, im' pretty sure he used to live there. There's a lovely family that own the gas station we go to (they're from india) and my mom was talking to the guy once and he told her that his family basicaly owned all the gas stations on 202. the first brother earned enough money to bring the second over and then he followed into the new family business and it just went on from there. There is also a family from pakistan whose son i used to go to school with. they own the dunkin donuts and their family is invoved with several other franchies. So while he did mess up and not say small business he wasn't necessarily spitting out a stereotype. In reality a lot of the gas stations and dd's in the wilmington area are owned by two very successful immigrant business owners. At least that's how i came to understand it.

Just because it may have some innocuous context in reality doesn't mean that what he said wasn't racist. See also: Trent Lott.

Sometimes a politician also puts their foot in their mouth and says things that come out not in a way that was intended. see: Bushisms.
Everybody (even Bush, dare i say it) deserves some forgiveness with that stuff now and then.
