I'm not sure making comparisons to mid 2006 means that the "surge is working" - that's kind of like saying "Mission Accomplished" in 2003. One month of improvement from a situation that had been growing progressivly worse is a good thing, but but this improvement still means American and Iraqi deaths, mounting debt, and a "surge" we cannot sustain even though the civil war in Iraq has no end in sight.

Improvement is improvement, and a decrease in the amount of life lost is certainly cause for celebration.
Again, the surge is more about tactics than numbers, and I think even the media has given up on calling Iraq a "civil war."

yes, because a year ago the war was going so well too.
it's like saying the Eagles are better than that season they went 2 and 14
