Good Article. Good Jounral too, I am a subscriber to City Journal. The thing that seperates Giuliani from the Senator crew is that he has governed in a conservative way, All the Senators can really claim is that they voted a certain way or made the right speeches. One of the reasons I like Rudy

hmm, interesting - I still think some social conservatives will object to his other stances, but Rudy almost leans libertarian on some issues, but still with a strong respect for law and order. I alot of Democrats regard him as "the Republican I can tolerate". His record, while conservative, has been strong. He's a credible and dangerous candidate. The only problem with him, from the Republican perspective, is that he might lead them to vote for some inevitable 3rd party "moral values" candidate that would arise. Yet another candidate bound to make 2008 one of the most interesting election years in a very long time.

a conservative VP won't affect which laws President Rudy signs or veto's.
Given Rudy's hatred of self defense (love of gun control) and his control fetish (see the later years of is Mayorship), I'll be looking elsewhere for a GOP candidate for President.

But Congress will. Go Hillary!

I think Rudy would be the only anti-gun candidate that could win the Presidency. Even John Kerry had to go hunting.
Any suggestions on who else we should be looking to?

How much damage to 2nd Amendment rights can a President do? The primary threats to gun rights would be from Congress or the Judiciary. It seems to me that a Republican/Conservative gain in Congress would be much more likely with a Republican candidate winning the Presidency. I think a President Giuliani and more Republicans in Congress would likely cancel each other out. I expect Rudy will play down his views on the major wedge issues anyway

Too socially liberal for me, but he has the right stuff fiscally and in leadership.
I am all for Newt!
