I don't see the big deal; it wasn't his gun, it was loaded, and it was CONGRESS. Mistake or not, the law was broken. I don't see how this is a major 2nd amendment issue; its not like they wouldn't let Webb carry his own registered gun...

Exactly. That is the issue. The gun belongs to Webb. A simple change of hands and it would have been ok. It shouldn't have ended in arrest. Just an illustrative example of dumb gun laws from the halls of power.

I don't see how preventing firearms, unregistered and in the wrong hands, from coming into the halls of the Capitol Building is a "dumb law." It seems like a pretty smart, common sense law to me. I just don't see any "gun rights" issues here. A law was broken and an arrest was made. Period. He's now entitled to his due process and the thing will probably be thrown out because it was an "oops."

What I truly loathe about this affair, apart from how some people think the rules are only for common folk like us, is that Webb let his aide (and fellow Marine) stew overnight in a DC jail cell on his behalf. What a prince.
