Gravatar I guess you're aware by now that McCain never watched the ad.

Gravatar So? I don't think that takes away from my point.

Gravatar Your point was that McCain was a "hero" for "trying to nip character-attack campaigning in the bud in North Carolina".

Well, there are two issues there. One: How did McCain know that the add was a "character attack" if he hadn't seen it as he now admits? That certainly makes one wonder if he customarily makes decisions without knowing the facts - and worse yet, IMHO, not caring to know them, as he also now admits. "I haven't seen it and I don't intend to", were his words, I believe.

The second issue is "Was the advertisement actually a character attack"? I've seen it, and didn't find it to be so, or inappropriate in any way. But then I actually live in NC, and am therefore "out of touch with reality", apparently. I guess I should just "calm down", eh?

Maybe McCain just has it in for NC, since he was dead last in the polls here until he was anointed by others.

Needless to say, I won't be voting for him in the Primary. I reckon (we say that a lot here) that a large number of NC Republicans may vote for somebody else on May 6th just to send a message. In PA, 28% of those who voted Republican chose either Ron Paul or Huckabee instead of McCain. Not exactly a resounding endorsement, I'd say.

Good blog. Regards--

Gravatar Sorry to twist the knife, here, Ryan, but McCain is already backpedaling on the NC ad. (Maybe he actually watched it, who knows?)

On Fox News today, McCain said:

"I saw yesterday some additional comments that have been revealed by Pastor Wright, one of them comparing the United States Marine Corps with Roman legionnaires who were responsible for the death of our Savior," said McCain, responding to a question only about the North Carolina GOP ad, at a news conference in Coral Gables, Fla, He also cited comments Wright made that seemed to compare the United States and Al Qaeda."

Gravatar I am in no way a McCain apologist. Had you read further down, you'd realize that myself nor anyone in my family voted for McCain in PA last week.

I just think that there's better things the NC GOP could be spending their money on, like lower tier races, rather than influence the Democrats.
