Gravatar Damn Right! This fiscally conservative, socially liberal thing might catch on....

Gravatar I'm interested in seeing if his fundraising levels drop off for the rest of the month. I bet a majority of the donors are not new and have either waited to donate until Nov 5th, or have now maxed out and will be unable to contribute in the future. Either way though, it's impressive.

Gravatar Alan,
I hope you're right that this "fiscally conservative, socially liberal thing might catch on," as I really think Libertarians (if they are ready to step up to the plate) will be the primary (pardon the pun) winners when the Republican Party truly starts to implode. On the other hand, looking at Ron Paul's social stands, I'm not sure I'd want to use the word "liberal" to describe him.

Gravatar I changed my registration (from Independent) to Republican because of Ron Paul. No matter what you think of his chances, his ideas need to be part of the debate.

As far as Ron Paul on social issues, I do know that he is against freedom of choice (or is pro-life, whichever way you prefer to state it), however I do not think that he would attempt to influence Roe-v-Wade; rather, he thinks of it more as a States’ rights issue. On the whole, his “Don’t Tread on Me” philosophy would leave decision-making up to the individual, a basic Libertarian tenet.

Gravatar Of course, if Paul doesn't make it in the primary (as it looks like a long shot) but chooses to continue his pursuit of the presidency, he could further split the vote in a year when Republicans will need every vote they can get to win (at least as things stand presently). Just a thought - but this guy seems like he could be a serious independent threat - not so much to win, but to disrupt everyone else and force them to reevaluate their ideas.

Gravatar Ron Paul is the man of the year. The message of liberty, equality and fraternity are strong and the corrective measures of the Constitution are needed to protect our liberty.
