I'd first like to make the disclaimer that I like some of Ron Paul's domestic policies, but I think he's stretching it when it comes to his isolationist foreign policies, even though some of them have good intentions.
On to my point:
There was a good discussion on Slashdot, a website that calls itself "News For Nerds" about why so many American geeks/nerds hold libertarian viewpoints. I think the reason is that geeks want to do something in whatever manner they find that works, and this leads to their strong views about the free market and the first amendment. They think letting everyone do their own thing and having the government do as little as possible to maintain civility will let someone come up with the best solution to a problem for their particular situation.
