I don't like lemons, but I wouldn't worry too much about that. I think fecal matter is found on everything that's anywhere near a bathroom. If I remember the article correctly, toilets throws some in the air with every flush, where it floats until it lands somewhere.
I don't think it's that big a health risk.

I work in a restaurant...and have been preaching...NEVER GET A LEMON IN YOUR DRINK...for as long as I can remember.

hmm, maybe that's why lemons and vodka go so well together - the sterilizing effects of the alcohol cleans the lemon while the lemon adds a good bite to the drink. The perfect pair, really. .

I brought this up last Sunday at the Deer Park over Bloody Marys...we all left the lemons alone, but then ended up wondering about the celery stalks. I hope McCain's right about the vodka.

The citric acid in lemons is a natural antiseptic. It's why it shows up in cleaners so much. Unfortunately anything that lands on the rind won't be effected by it.
