Just come out and say it. Young American men and women should go to Iraq. Right?
No need to beat around the Bush.

Ryan, I'm sure they would be glad to take your application at the recruiting center. Mommy doesn't want to risk the skin of her precious puppy? Thought so, Yellow Elephant. Sure Thermopylae was important, but do we really need the type of society that Sparta was in order to defend ourselves? If you lived in ancient Sparta, you would have been taken from your family at a young age for military training. Whenever the army needed food, you would raid the surrounding countryside. Only very old men were allowed to marry at all. When you went off to war, your mother would tell you to come back with your shield or on it (in other words, no pissing your pants when the road side bomb explodes next to you). If I remember my American history right, my ancestors did not defeat the British by developing the Spartan social or military model. Common people saw their property and liberties threatened and acted. They were sick of bearing the tax burden for an empire which they felt marginally benefitted them (having sort of gotten amnesia about the French and Indian War). Anyway, recruiting center open until 5. I'm only 10 minutes away and will be glad to drop you off. You can probably even catch the latest flicks like 300 in the green zone between patrols.

1. I never stated anyone needed to go to Iraq, just that people should understand why it is important.
2. I never said that America (or anyone else) should emulate Spartan society.
Thanks for the ad hominem attacks. Have a nice day.
