Politicians typically have a love-hate relationship with the Secret Service. They like the protection, but they hate giving the secret service power over their schedules. They also hate security distancing them from their voters and or effecting media perception.
Plus at this point McCain isn't Republican candidate yet. If he asked for SS protection, he'd probably have to pay for it with campaign money.
Is this really the type of thing that they should be reporting? Any thoughts on that?
