Gravatar Argh! This shits me! Lets use a German shepherd as an example. I've met/lived next door to, horribly dangerous German Shepherds that would have mutilated my dog give half a chance. Why? Because they weren't trained, bred, socialised, exercised, (fed good food) properly. On the otehr hand, some of the most beautiful dogs I've met have been German Shepherds. In fact, the trainer we took our dog to bred and trained GS and they would sit unleashed for hours watching puppy training classes, enduring being jumped on and play bitten by uppity young dogs patiently gently and obediently.

My dog was a Jack Russell Terrier. Not a dog that crops up on the banned lists, cute and small. But very dangerous. He was very strong jawed (bred that way), very strong shoulders very fast, very single minded. I would never have let him off the leash around kids or other dogs. He was well trained, socialised exercised, fed etc but he was a dog. One whose protective instincts (to his pack or to himself) would have kicked in if he perceived a threat.

Should dangerous dogs be put down if unable to be rebilitated? Yes. Are some dogs' personalities agressive (often due to inbreeding/ poor breeding) yes. Do I think dogs should be on a leash when in public? Yes.Do I think some breeds should be banned? NO. Do I think irresponsible owners should be penalised and banned from owning another dog? Yes. Do I think it should be mandatory to train your dog? Yes. Do I think a vast amount of the human race is stupid? yes.

We don't outlaw people having children after a child does something appalling.

Gravatar Oh, and the look on that poor dog's face is classic. It *knows* how silly it looks, oh the patient suffering!

Gravatar this is a dangerous dog according to Qld pollies. I think any dog that will put up with being dressed like that is probably a good dog.

Gravatar of course a lot of a dog's behaviour comes down to the way it is (or isn't) trained and socialised. there are many fuck-knuckles out there who shouldn't be allowed to own a pet, or indeed, raise children.

but I do believe that breed also has it's role - because certain traits have been bred into them. for example, the bone-crushing abilities of some of the mastiff or pit-bull type breeds. they have jaws of massive damage capabilities, because humans have selectively bred them. sure, that's the breeder's fault, but the dogs still exist.

my poxie-foxie cross-breed might have the same potential to turn as a pit bull (actually, she probably doesn't, as some of you know) but if you were going to be attacked by one of them, which would you pick? the one you can shake off, or the one which has to be beaten off by a by-stander?

Gravatar Any dog that won't bite a Qld politician should be banned.

Gravatar you're only stopping at Qld Pollies? shame on you anti-ob, you're getting soft
