Gravatar Much underlies the rice crisis. The rush to ethanol is part of it. since the price of corn skyrocketed, there was a rush to plant corn in place of other crops. While rice may not have been displaced, a panic of sorts set it, resulting in an increase in the price not just of rice, but all grains. Further, weakness in the dollar has resulted in an escalation of commodities including oil. Oil, as related to goldd is unchanged. The weakness in the dollar, as related to gold, drives other prices. It's as plain as the nose on my face.
