As for the architectural integrity, have a friend that nobody knows come in pretending to be from the FHA. Say it's in violation of several codes and that they're being shut down.
Lol, I was going to say you sound like a great mom, but Kapgar's comment sounds better, you pussing wound! 
I do quite a bit of volunteer work and a huge pet peeve is how some organizations just don't know how to utilize a volunteer. It wastes everyone's time and doesn't make me very eager to volunteer again.
CMG - I think you have some experience in dealing with frustrating people, no?
Kapgar - I like the idea of the inspector - wanna fly down here?
LSL - I try very hard not to have the mentality that "I could organize this better"....but sometimes, well, I truly could!! Situations could just be so much more effective!!
