Perhaps this is the reason for the sudden push for this and another great chance for a reign of greed terror blunder.

Agreed Anon. @ 4:47.

Here's the irony: the same people that come here to comment about recognizing the contribution toward ... saving ... Roper's Knob, are the same ones that busied themselves playing downtown pet project and BOMA while ignoring anything outside of downtwon.

Too bad.

We understand your comment !

Gravatar After attending the BOMA meeting, IMHO Mr Klatt was against the project and was disappointed that a vote wasn't taken to kill it. Mr Skinner proposed the delay in order to try and find an alternative solution, seconded by Mr. Mclendon. Ms Petersen was absent, and a vote of 4-3 delayed the vote till next month, which will be beyond the election filing deadline. At least two prospective alderman candidates were in attendance.

City staff seemed really weak, in over their heads. That is why Land Speculators pay big time lawyers to intimidate the COF.

Gravatar Viva Historic Franklin!

Gravatar And the crowd yelled, “Hail Caesar” and “he” yelled back, “Hail Yeah”!

Gravatar KA I was encouraged as they came here to comment. SOME may finally get it.
We value our Community but have different ways to show it.
Fair and balanced with a whole lot of common sense.
Conservation and heritage in any community has great value but obsession and greed can replace common sense.
Lean wolves in wait took advantange of DT vanity and now grow fatter and stronger by the day.

Gravatar Well one point that should also be noted is this same land owner, owns land that gives him access to a Franklin road entrance to Ropers Knob. And Jay you are so right about these developers bullying down the city with some of these tactics. The city attorney needs to bulk up and not roll over. Go Mike Skinner for forcing a delay on the vote to push this issue for more discussion. I wonder some days about some of these other aldermen.... many of which have ties to development or real estate sales.... ugh. I believe they would just push it through and traffic problems be damned. Look at the Hillsboro/Mack Hatcher Road vote during the BOMA meeting, we only had one voting to use the recommended (State Paid for plan) for that area which is a parking lot most times of day! With complaints by anyone who has to drive that route. Lets deal with these traffic issues BOMA it take more than one to two voices of reason and Dana rolled over on this one due to the fact this is his ward!

Gravatar Well said Watch Dog !

Gravatar The "state plan" for Hillsboro Road is five lanes. No one who lives in the area supported a five lane road when the issue was discussed at length years ago. A five lane road would decimate the quality of life not only for all the residents on Hillsboro Road, but for nearby residents, too.

Gravatar Dana-

Are we worried about the twenty or so houses or the good of all traveling that section of road. I do believe that the good of ALL traveling that stretch of road is more important than the very loud 20 homes or so from Mack Hatcher to the Car Dealerships where it opens back up to the 5 lines. It just does NOT make a darn bit of since to go from 5 lanes to 2 to 3lanes then back to 5 and congest all of that traffic for what feels like days on end when you sit in that parking lot stretch. And heck sooner or later we will have to deal with this issue, even if it is not on your watch. Which I am sure is your plan. When the state has already footed the bill and spent a pretty penny why not use the plan. As one who lives there please listen to this one who votes as well. And yes I do remember very well the old guard of people who live in those very few homes.

Gravatar What is the problem with the landowner asking for better access to his land? I understand the roadway will cut into this historic hillside. However, it's a hill with a plaque I drive by at 55 MPH. Opening up the land to development will allow it to be used and further appreciated. If the land has too much value as a historic location, those who feel this way should make the land owner an offer.

Gravatar Good information Dana !

Gravatar The other problem with a five lane Hillsboro Road segment near the high school is this: unless you are prepared to tear down Five Points, which you aren't, then you will always funnel back down to a three lane or less segment before you can go out Lewisburg or Columbia Pikes. As for those who would like to go west, the solution is Mack Hatcher.

Gravatar Historic, Historic, Historic, I hear so much about Historic, I want to puke. Go to Chattanooga, TN and drive up on Look Out Mountain, or Signal Mountain and see the residences built and the people living there. This was the location the famous “Battle above the clouds” during the Civil War. I had a great grandfather who lost a leg during that battle. Is it Historic? Sure, but it is nothing more than a damn mountain, the same goes for Roper’s Knob, it is nothing more than a damn hill.

If Franklin wants to tell, and not all the tales are fact, all about the illustrious days of the Civil War, then why wasn’t something done way back years ago, like was done at Gettysburg, Shiloh and other places of recognition. Folks the war ended in 1865, it is now 2001, go figure.

Gravatar The reason something wasn't done in Franklin like Gettysburg or Shiloh is that Franklin was a Confederate disaster -- the pro-southern majority in Franklin wanted as few reminders as possible -- certainly no federal park (which I understand was offered, perhaps near the turn of the prior century).

Gravatar I have posted this comment of mine before and I will post it again, here.

Thank You Union Army, for saving our great nation:

Concerning the Confederate Battle Flag and the Civil War:

Only one comment from me. I am so very glad that the Union won and the Confederacy surrendered in 1865; I, for one have enjoyed the open vastness of this great United States, from border to border and from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

I have not crossed one foreign country border to go from South to North and from East to West. The only boundary of the United States on this North American continent were the borders at Mexico and Canada.

In the attic of my grandmother, I, as a youngster, use to creep in and view the Confederate Uniform, sword, battle flag and other relics belonging to my Great Grandfather who lost a leg to a canon ball in the Battle Above The Clouds on Lookout Mountain.

Although my heritage was in Tennessee, I wish to thank all leaders of the Union Army for having given me and my fellow citizens a flag with 50 stars and an ability to travel across this great land without having to cross borders because she was divided.

We are all Americans, and until we bury our petty rivalries, we will never be the great nation we can become.

During my military service, some of my closest comrades in arms were Hispanic, Black, Native American and yes, even Asian Comrades. We were serving our country because of the Selective Service System, better known as the draft.

It takes us all………we can and need to get along for our future’s sake, and the future generations who will follow us. I never met a man from whom I could not learn something.
