Gravatar I read this right, with an expiration to the ban coupled with the unanimous vote I bet this was a cop out to revisit this next year. This after receiving several emails from folks who where against the ban. Less people watch county commission meetings than franklin meetings so I have no idea what was talked about or if there where any agreements

Gravatar I hope Mary Brockman included in her resolution the appropriation of the financial resources to change the county tourism signs to "Welcome to Beautiful Williamson County, where thugs can carry weapons but law-abiding citizens can't."

Gravatar I honestly don’t think the average citizen or the elected officials really realize the tremendous infiltration of MS13 Gang Members into Franklin. They are here and they prowl the neighborhoods, especially at night.

Oft times I have observed a lone young lady jogging along the streets and highways in and around Franklin in the early morning just at the crack of dawn, or in the twilight of the evening. Also, when I observe this innocent activity, my thoughts are whether or not she realizes the vulnerability in which she has placed herself.

There is going to come a time, and it is not going to be in the distant future, but sooner than we want to think, there is going to be a bad happening because of these gangs. (MS13, Brown Pride, Kurdish Pride, Bloods, Crips and the list goes on and on)

The gangs do congregate in and around the city and county parks.

Gravatar when did the commision start meeting in the mornings?

Gravatar The inherent flaw with the logic that "somebody is going to pull a gun in an argument over a bad call if we allow guns in parks" is that somehow, those who obey the law and bring legally carried arms into a park, will suddenly decide to break the law and nonchalantly injure or kill someone over a petty argument.

However, banning guns in the park will keep them out... because if it's ILLEGAL, no one will bring them in .

A person who will cause bodily injury or death to someone else, which is illegal, will also carry a gun, or knive, or other weapon, illegally.

Why pass a law to prevent other laws from being broken?

And the dumbasses like the idiot that wrote in to Herr Tennessean, that say the gun owners are paranoid - is not fear of law abiding citizens an even worse, more baseless, paranoia???

Gravatar What over service will poor cash strapped County provide for protection of citizens.
Increase WCSD patrols will be costly as well as lights, security cameras and 911 call boxes.

Q. Will you be willing to go to prison defending yourself or family ?

Gravatar And if you had your pistol you could stop them from hurting you or that jogger?

I have been robbed at gunpoint before. I can promise you that when a person sneaks up and puts a gun to you and says, "give me your money", you ain't gonna out draw them.

I'm a simple man of math. And for every instance I can count where having a gun might help, I can count 2-3 scenarios where it could easily spell disasterous.

But.. lets say you get that "right place at the right time" scenario. Are you going to shoot the MS-13 member? And... If so, how long do you think you will be a hero before you became a martyr?

Gravatar When will we see metal detectors at the entrance to our parks and playgrounds. If we are stopping legal, law abiding citizens, we need to take action against the people who really don't care about the law. If I buy a gun tomorow in a parking lot I can take it into a bar or park. How stupid is this? I do not have a gun and do not want one but our freedoms are important to me. I am also more confortable knowing that someone has a legal gun in a bar or park to protect me from the hoodlums and thugs.

Gravatar I'll bet the first time any council person is surrounded by Sharks and Jets and caught up in a freakish West Side Story ballet segment in one of our parks they'll not be able to reverse this stupid ordinance fast enough.

And nobody around them will be able to offer any meaningful help.

Think about it.

Gravatar Well said Bob,

I was thinking about this last night and the only real way to keep all hand guns out of parks etc is to baracade the parks with barb wire fence and place metal detectors at the entrance then hire a full time force to stand at the front gate and check all weapons like a coat check system. That should not be to expensive or invasive I suppose.

There are clearly two sides to this issue and both sides can make great points, but at the end of the day we do have rights given to us by the constitution and we should be given the chance to defend ourselves when needed. We are all potential victims, if there is something that can be done to minimize our exposure I say go for it.

Gravatar Follows is a copy of the email I sent to the reporter at the CA about his ridiculous article the Tennessean reprinted in today's edition:

Your article concerning Bredsen's gun comments is the worst case of unsubstantiated reporting I have ever read.

Tell me how "a relatively small number" becomes "most in Tennessee"?

How does Bredesen predict a backlash from a "majority of Tennesseans"? Did you or he personally speak to all citizens of the state or even have a scientifically designed poll to back this statement?

Why do you feel it necessary to mention Shelby County and "Republican-heavy areas"? Do you think that Republicans or the citizens of Shelby County are more prone to pull out their legal firearm than others? What do you propose to do to the criminals who will pay absolutely no attention to the cities, counties etc. opting out of the law? They will laugh and spit in your face as the beat, rob, stab, shoot, rape or whatever else they do to their unarmed victim.

If you are a serious reporter then you should be ashamed of the article because of its bias and ridiculous claims. The CA is as poor an excuse for a newspaper as is the Tennessean!
