Birds are incredibly smart. We have 2 Cockatoos and 6 parrots and used to raise them.
We sold a Yellow Naped Amazon to someone, and about a year later their house was robbed. They took all the electronics and stuff, not the parrot. About two days after the robbery, the nape came out with two names, Larry and Mike.
It was enough for the cops, they knew two suspects by that name, went to their home and found most of the goods. They must have been talking during the robbery and the bird remembered their names.
Our little Goffins Cockatoo says the F word, cause he heard me say it once! Just once!
Unfortunately, now it's his favorite word! Not funny when the preacher is around!
Lordy, what a smart Yellow Nape! I guess the moral of the story is be careful what you say around the parrot
There was a story out of Dallas about a man who was found dead in his home, robbed ... and his Umbrella Cockatoo was also found dead. Then, they found shards of human flesh caked in the cockatoo's beak .. did DNA testing, and busted the perps.
Goffins are interesting; I've read they're a little less neurotic than the others in the cockatoo family.
