Gravatar My Dad reminded me that when he was a kid in school it was still referred to as Decoration Day. (though the term Memorial Day was used as early as the 1880s) It did not "officially" become Memorial Day until 1971 when it became a Naitonal holiday.

Gravatar "Last Monday In May"
John T. Bird

We pause to remember those who died
With so much courage, so much pride

They’ll never come back, yet memories endure
To remind us of freedom: fragile, pure

We’re worthy of their sacrifice if we pause each day
Not just on the last Monday in May.

Gravatar Anna, my folks actually didn't think we needed another national holiday! But, they met in the Navy during WW2; reminescenses was at times a part o daily life.

md -- that's beautiful. Thanks, I'm saving that one!
