"Specifically, we were talking about how some blue eyed, red haired American female college students wear Muslim coverings in Texas heat. That's nuts..."

hahaha. People can be silly, but all I can think about is a Southern Belle dressed up in a big old bonnet...

Gravatar Makes one wonder, doesn't it?

Gravatar "I mentioned that the the Gay Marriage Amendment is the biggest frickin' waste of time on a non-issue that the Senate could pick. I'm glad it was defeated because we don't need it. There's a clause in the constitution that says whatever powers are not allocated to the Federal or State government are granted to the individual."

The Amendment of which you speak, the Tenth, says: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

This means, essentially, that what the Feds aren't allowed to do the States have the right of first refusal to take for themselves -- unless they are prohibited.

Marital law is, and always has been, a matter of state law. If a state wants to ban gay marriage, that is their business; if it wants to allow same, ditto.

Other than that, the whole issue is a waste of effort and my money.
