My son was 2.5 when he showed us he was really listening He bonked his head on the edge of the table, turned to the table, hit it with his hand and said, "*&%#ing table". My heart dropped. Shame ensued - especially since a quite conservative friend was right there when it happened!
I guess it's a wake-up call. There is a period of time when they can't talk, etc... and they almost seem uneffected, until...
I still goof, but am working at managing it better (honestly I don't want the Naughty words to be my default in stress, it a matter of training the knee-jerk reaction at this point).
As far as "going back" with the kiddies... On the occasions they speak "THE" words (not often, but has happened a few times), we tell them that Mommy and Daddy shouldn't even talk that way. We tell them how it sounds yucky. We ask them that if they hear us say those things that they remind us not to use the "yucky words". We take the blame, but let them know they have a choice in

I gasped to myself as i was reading the entry, considering her being so young she prolly doesn't understand what shes said. My son is a year and a half, he says a lot of stuff that he shouldn't be saying. I would let it go, If she says it again, then handle it how you did when she said the s-word, assuming that word never left her mouth again. When kids are learning to talk, they repeat so of course if you said it around her.....
But it doesn't make you a bad mother, we all make mistakes, I can honestly say that word leaves my mouth atleast once a day.

The fact that you're worried means you're not a bad mommy! I'm sure she'll learn to use better language with some constant reminders that bad words are bad...

Whoops! It's okay. It happens to us all. When my daughter was old enough to understand she and I had a discussion about words we don't say in our household. I'd say if Julia says it again, then maybe discuss it with her.
