Mine are 2 1/2 years apart and for me, it was perfect timing. I knew I was ready when my daughter played with a baby in front of me. She was ready, I was ready.

IMO i'd make sure you have Julia in preschool before #2 pops out. Sounds like she will be potty trained anyhow by the time #2 will arrive.
You don't have to have another kid! nothing written that you have to. If you truly want it more than you want your sleep, your free time, etc. then you are perhaps ready. of course you are talking to a mom of an only child though so maybe i shouldn't be giving advice?
enjoy those 8 hours of sleep. i don't ever sleep that long

Hey - nothing wrong with appreciating what you have now. I'm already looking forward to when Brogan is in pre-K; he'll be going to school all day every other day the fall that he turns 4. I can't wait!
I agree that not many people are ever absolutely ready. There's always going to be something that could be seen as "maybe it's not quite the perfect time yet". When you're emotionally ready then you're ready.

It wasn't so much as I figured I was ready...It was more like I practically it made sense for the time in our lives (money and job wise) and I figured I was as ready as I would be any other time... and the way life works..whatever happens or however difficult it gets.. I know I'll just have to deal with it and no matter what.. I'll live through it and come out feeling it was worth it later on...we'll be finding out very soon how difficult it can get!

I see where you're coming from - I think I'm starting to get the same way. I mean, on a thousand hands I am SO not ready - this kid's only a year and a half and he's a friggin handful but sometimes I really miss him being tiny. But I see also that if I were to have another one I would be extremely busier than I am now.
I think if you want it, and you know you want another one, you've just gotta jump in. Nothing will prepare you better than being pregnant, I would think.

As a mother of one, I couldn't tell you how you know when it's time to have another baby. I want another one as well. You have to decide if you love your life so much that you aren't willing to change it just yet. That doesn't make you selfish. And remember, you get those sleepless nights during pregnancy (or at least I did) to prepare you for the nights you'll be up after the baby's born. What would Julia think of a baby brother or sister?
