I was wondering the same thing. Except I'm only on book 4. Once I actually got into the first book it and the next two went relatively quickly but I am loathe to sacrifice so much of my "Me Time" (as you mentioned) to this series. And mine is a borrowed set so I have the added guilty feeling of having had them in my possession for so long (even though he's said he doesn't need them back any time soon).

Keep reading. You'll need it to understand book 6. I must say that The Order of the Pheonix I found to be the most depressing. I guess he's become a typical teenager.

I'm afraid I can't help you - I still need to read Order of the Phoenix. I've read all the others. (Everyone in my little world has said Goblet of Fire was their favorite. It's mine, too, but I can't compare it to book 5 yet.)

If it were me, I'd keep reading. (But then I can never leave a book half finished - except if it's just horrible!)
