Okay, I must be a horrible mommy, then because I'm thinking of copying this idea. LOL

I agree- it was harmless because if you had told the truth it only would've reminded her of the commercial and scared her. But, I also agree- try not to make up too much because you'll have a hard time keeping up- plus it will give her a kinda distorted view on reality.

I really don't think it is that bad. Sometimes you just have to use what you have to work with to get them to behave.

I don't think there's anything wrong with what you're doing, but for my own sake I try not to make up many stories/lies because I'm not good at keeping track and I'm sure I would completely mess up and contradict myself. I just try to be honest about my reasons -- like that is too scary for kids -- and I don't want her to be scared. I still make things up like if you eat fruit you grow faster (because Faith hates fruit).

LOL! I thought your "Santa messages to parents" story was great!
Destiny didn't "get" Santa last year...this year she turned 4 right after Christmas, and she had a better grasp on the whole Santa Claus thing.
Nothing wrong with a few "stories" to tell them when they are this age. Especially when it brings "good" behaviors from them! You're not the only one!

I think you're ok. I still use the Santa thing. I think it will wear off as the days, weeks, and Months roll along. Until September when the stores pull out the Santa gear again. Go with it. What ever works. It won't be too long from now that she won't believe in him anymore-then we have to re-treat to threats of violence to get them to mind!
