Just listened to a national radio interview with Jamar Adams, he said the atmosphere at Michigan is all about winning and it's been very positive. He said never has he seen so many players coming back in the off season (Braylon, Woodson etc.)Very positive comments about the staff, nothing even remotely resembling Boren's descriptions.

On a different, less blumpkinesque subject, I had a discussion with a big ten die hard like myself. I wasn't sure if we were missing someone and thought I would ask the group.
From our estimation, there is only one sure fire NBA prospect in the entire Big Ten. Eric Gordon and maybe DJ White. Are there others that I am missing. Has there ever been this little talent in our league? How did this happen? Michigan alone used to have two NBA prospects on our teams at all times.
Are there really only one to two prospects or am I missing someone?

On a related note - even with the transition to Beilein's system, if there is such a dearth of talent, how can we still be at the bottom of the conference? (Short answer - Amaker)

Just got back from Albany. Observations from a fan who hasn't had much opportunity to see the team this year:
1) I've seen a bunch of college hockey teams in the past few weeks, and Michigan looked easily the best of all of them, even when they weren't looking so good in the first period against Clarkson.
2) I grew up watching them, but I can never get past it: Clarkson's band is terrible. They sound like somebody stuffed dung in their trumpets, they play whenever they feel like it (including STARTING songs during the Victors), and they use profanity liberally. They were downright rude to the Michigan fanbase before, during and after the game.
3) The reffing was horribly lopsided. Calls were going Clarkson's way 90% of the time and I dont know why. Michigan would have the exact same things happen to them and nothing would get called. It was really frustrating... not sure what everyone could see on TV.
4) Porter for Hobey Baker (Duh, right?). Yes he scores goals, but it's so much more than that. You can see his hockey smarts even more when he's nowhere near the puck... I've never seen anyone so good at reading the play 5 seconds before it happens. It's truly incredible.
This was a good weekend

@ Devil's,
True. Amaker did ruin quite a bit.
I am at Purdue so I see them up close. My theory is that they weren't as good as last year but that the Big Ten fell that far. Actually Landry (doing well in the NBA) and Teague were a great pair. It was just tough to look very good in our league last year. This year Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio State had huge lapses. Only Minnesota got any better. This was the worst year in the history of the Big Ten. I would like someone to analyze that because I think it is verfiably true.
Anyway, the league is wide open and I think that Beilein can make a run. Maybe not next year but it is not like in football where you have two national powers that swat everyone else down.

It all depends on two years from now. If we start winning, then kids will follow. The scheme will not sell itself but winning will.

Just returned to NYC from the 2+ hour drive to Albany (now with 31% more available prostitutes!). Couple of observations:
M much less tense in the first period today. Clarkson a better team in all facets.
Lots of Clarkson extra-curriculars away from the puck and when the refs were looking away. To M credit, no one took the bait.
Seats right on the blue line, and I don't think I've seen so many poorly called offsides in years. This went both ways.
The Clarkson band was classless. Everytime our band played The Victors, they would absolutely BLARE some lame song with a similar beat to mess up the timing.
M fans easily outnumbered Clarkson fans, even if Clarkson is much closer. Perhaps everyone on their side was wearing green and were hard to pick out, but i'll be damned if i saw more than a handful of Clarkson students.
The locals stayed away in droves. Vast swaths of the upper deck were empty yesterday, today they had a big black tarp across the upper deck, i suppose for looks on TV. In any case, still lots of seats in the end zone. You would think that the NCAA would give batches of tickets away to pee wee hockey teams to fill some seats.
Clarkson's skating golden knight mascot had me hoping for a repeat of the St. Cloud mascot incident mentioned this week. No such luck, although he did manage to look like an idiot.
Mass indifference throughout the M section when the Minnesota and Wisky scores were announced. Few claps but not much.
I feel sorry for the kids who made the trip from AA. apparently there are two bars in all of downtown Albany, and both are accross from the stadium.
All in all, worth the 300 miles roundtrip and $80 for tickets to see an M game in person again. Now if I can just convince my wife that Denver is a lovely place to visit in April...

I think that it is all Izzo's fault. Seriously, this guy has ruined the Big Ten by being so successful with defense. Now we have Bo Ryan and Matt Painter copying the blueprint. agree with the point that the defensive style doesn't exactly get the get the Shirtless recruits.
My guess as to the decline - is I don't think the majority of the Big Ten schools are going to recruit the "one and done" players. And when they do recruit the players (like conley and oden) you have a big time year and then suck the next.

I watched at a bar with the sound off and it was unbelievable how one-sided the game was called. It sucks being short-handed when you've got all five skaters on the ice, but Sauer and the penalty kill unit were lights-out. But if we get another game called like that against a better team (and I suppose Notre Dame would be considered better than Clarkson...certainly they're more popular nationwide of only for their football program) we could be in for a rough time. Hopefully we'll be able to avoid a WCHA crew in Denver.

I am going to take my first stab at a depth chart for '08.

RB MinorBrownGrady
SWR HemingwayOdom
SWR BabbRobinson
WR MathewsStonum
WR ClemonsSavoy
LT OrtmannO'Neill
LG Moosman??
C MolkBarnum
RG McAvoyZirbel
RT SchillingDorrestein
Also
TE ButlerWebbMassey
FB HelmuthMondrous
Obviously the O-Line and QB are the major issues. Thankfully it does not take a man crushing O-Line to run a successful spread. But there is no depth there, freshman are going to have to play and that spells Trouble. Guys will move between slot and RB - McGuffie, Shaw and Horn for example will play both places. Good thing is that the entire depth chart will return for '09 along with even more speed coming into the picture.
DE JamisonBanks
DT TaylorSlocum
DT JohnsonFerrara
DE GrahamPatterson
SAM EzehEvans
MIKE ThompsonPanterFitzgerald
WILL MoutonLoganDemens
CB TrentWoolfolk
CB WarrenDutch
FS BrownStewart
SS ChambersB.Smith
Also
NICKEL HarrisonWilliamsCissoko
Should be a very good defense. Good talent and depth at DL, good speed at LB and a very nice tandem at CB. Good depth in the secondary too when you add Mike Williams and Cissoko and consider Woolfolk has been drawing compliments from the coaches. I think somebody from D-Line will move to O-Line, maybe Ferrera.

The O-Line situation is the main reason I think 8-5 is a likely record for '08. There are other reasons. But there really is only 1 proven guy on the O-Line (Schilling) and we all saw how he struggled vs. OSU.
Thing is, most of these guy that are there this spring were highly recruited but hadn't panned out yet.
The Rivals ratings for these guys
Schilling #2 - 3rd year in program
McAvoy #29 - 4th year
Molk #5 - 2nd year
Moosman #11 - 4th year
Ortmann #40 - 4th year
Zirbel #10 - 4th year
Dorrestein #43 - 3rd year
Huyge #65 - 2nd year
So it's not a complete lack of talent there and they've seen plenty of practices at M. Hopefully some new coaching can turn them around.

"O GOD WE LOVE HIM"
Seriously, I love this man!
Read this and think about what's to come :-)
After describing the afternoon’s various conditioning and speed drills (most of have already completed the day’s strength work), Barwis gives the players a heads up about the next day’s activity.
“Tomorrow there will be a bus out front of the building (the Puskar Center). I want everyone on it by three. Don’t wear cleats,” says Barwis in his heavy Philadelphia accent.
“What are we going to do?” asks one timid soul, wondering what lies ahead, as so far all the workouts have taken place at Mountaineer Field.
Barwis chuckles, a little too sinister for comfort, “You’ll find out tomorrow. But I can promise you one thing, we’re not going to #$@%& Kennywood (the Pittsburgh area amusement park).”
Such is the life of a Mountaineer football player in the summer. Sweating, straining, running, lifting. Every football player realizes that strength and conditioning workouts are a necessity to thrive in today’s highly competitive athletic world. But that doesn’t make the drills any easier, even for the sadists in the group who actually claim to enjoy working out. Rare is the Mountaineer player who doesn’t lose his lunch during some of Barwis’s hyperintensive workouts at the beginning of the summer.

If you can throw in 1-2 seconds, you don't have dominate the LOS. See what TUOS did to michigan in 2006 to deal with woodley and branch. Smith had the ball out in 1-2 seconds.
QB has to make a LOS read, and the read mismatch has to take place. Having a LB play a WR like DC english did negates a strong pass rush, lets the QB make the easy read and the easy throw. 42 points later.....

At the risk of sounding like an SEC fan, the Miami Red Hawks are up 2-0 on Boston College (with admittedly a full period-plus of hockey to play), but it is looking VERY much like the CCHA will be providing three of the teams making up this year's Frozen Four.
Suck on THAT, WCHA.

maxHubris,
Isn't what you described a lot like the Run & Shoot offense?
So what happened in 2006? It seems like in 2006 Michigan relied more on blitzing over and over again with little strategic adjustment. Yes, Tressel is a great coach, but did Michigan allow itself to get out-coached? It also helps that UoOS had Troy Smith and others, but should Michigan have made more obvious coaching adjustments to make the game more winnable?

In my defense, BC isn't in the WCHA. There are still at least 50% of the teams in the Frozen Four are from the CCHA. But really? 3 goals in 2 minutes? Zatkoff IS the best goalie in the CCHA after all.

Wayman- In '06 we did blitz a lot and had a damn good game plan against UoOs. Unfortunately we didn't have the secondary to go along with the front 7. If Crable doesn't get that personal foul we win that game, and while Crable was a serial killing maniac, I'm starting to think that the majority of our defensive lapses in the 4th quarter over the past few years have been conditioning related. Easier to make mental mistakes when you're tired, and if you start looking at a lot of our (non)- performances it makes sense.

In 2006, I think UOS seen the lack of DB depth on michigan in the ball state game and just put out enought receivers to ensure Sears was on the field. I think we kept a LB in there for the whole first half instead of an extra DB. I can't remember smith holding the ball very long early. Drop back throw, drop back throw. they got the DL gassed from rushing the QB in a fast paced tempo, then they ran/threw long after the DL quits/slows.
Hey, this is Michigan and we should be cutting edge. Other teams should be worried about dealing with Michigans schemes and who they are going to match up, not the other way around.
Stopping the spread: I've seen the spread stopped when the other team was much better and could just lock down across the board. UGA vs UH. YOu also take away the easy read. You drop NT into the passing lanes, move people around, make the QB check down. Then hammer the QB. See giants vs pats. for some reason the Pats, until late, stuck with the 4-5 sec patterns even though they were getting whipped up front. Finally, they went to the 2 sec patterns and the giants gassed. Of course, the giants got the ball back and scored last.
Here is to seeing the fat wads in the B10 get gassed by Q2, bent over hands on knees, waiving to the sidelines begging to get out of the game.

Mark, it's a classic example of a league that's just trying too hard and has been ever since Gary Bettman took over the commissionership (if that's even a word?)...the league spent years overexpanding and relocating teams to questionable markets (including my own, I have to admit). They've been hemorrhaging cash ever since and have been cutting corners in the place where they really couldn't afford to do it (TV contracts) and now after two suicidal labor stoppages they're trying to dumb down the game to try to attract casual sports fans...which has NEVER been the sport's bread-and-butter.
I don't need to tell you guys this, though...you're an Original Six market, you've probably forgotten more about hockey than most people in my (red)neck of the woods will ever know. True story.

It's true. There was a small faction of fans in Atlanta who was trying to reach out through the Thrashers' message board imploring us not to boo Bettman at the All-Star Game this year. The idea was generally rejected, as NOT booing him would only reconfirm the notion in the more traditional markets that we really don't know a damn thing about the sport down here.

Not to keep piling on the ATL, but they could not, or would not, support an nhl franchise in the past and the Flames moved the Calgary after just a few seasons.
Hmm. A team leaving an American city for a Canadian one? Is it a coincidence that those were peak times for the nhl? Probably not.

The Flames moved from Atlanta to Calgary in 1980, but it wasn't due to lack of fan support. From what I remember (I was only 12 when this happened) the owner of the team made his money in real estate and the economy was doing poorly. The city was trying to force an unfavorable deal to renew his lease with the arena (the Omni, since destroyed) and he felt squeezed badly enough to sell the team to a guy who moved 'em to Canada.
Pisser about the Red Hawks...that is what happens when you can't handle business in regulation. I was wondering if the next goal scored today would be in that game or the Wisct-NoDak game (still scoreless itself with a couple of minutes left in the first).

"On redshirt freshman Steve Threet wearing the green jersey today: "He's a little sick but he did everything. He might as well have been in a white jersey because he took a lot of reps. The quarterbacks are live – that teaches them to get rid of the ball quicker.""
On the quarterback competition: "It's wide open. [Redshirt sophomore] Nick Sheridan had a couple good days and Steve has had a couple of good days recently. [Redshirt sophomore] David Cone has done some good things. Right now Nick and Steve are ahead of David. That's about all we're saying with that."

Sadly, that is not a joke. That place is so corrupt. I know someone who was arrested in TJ and had to spend the day in jail. The dude I know is shady in his own right, but I can imagine what happened to him happening to any American there. If you see the movie Traffic, you'll hate Mexico even more.

Yep, some bright fella came running around critiquing McGuffie based on a clip of somebody(presumably a LB) chasing McGuffie down from behind. He typed as if he was very worried about McGuffie's speed and concluded this is a very bad omen and he lacks topend speed.
Sam McGuffie. Lacks topend speed. He wasn't joking.
And I could be wrong, but I think chitown came through with the top-end savoriness part in reference to pizza as an analogy for all the idiocy that ran wild that day.

I don't know if any of you ever read the Michigan football meesage board on Mlive, but, there is a poster with the username "eyespy123456" who claims that there are more defections on the way. He says that the players are basically verbally abused constantly by not only RR, but, the entire coaching staff(except Fred Jackson). Apparently, there is some worry over what is going on and how things are being done now in Ann Arbor. This "eyespy" is a relative of Lloyd Carr, I believe and has been right about alot of things that he has said. It will be interesting to see who the other defections will be.

Huss,
The absurdness about the McGuffie speed thing was because Sam didn't break away from the defender and the guy appeared to gain on him. I think it was like a 50 yd+ TD run and the LB was gaining on him. He didn't actually catch him. That's why I went off on the asshole that made that claim.

I think the D is really going to struggle in spring and maybe the first game or two. The reason being that Shafer is "coaching" a lot more than English. My opinion is undecided on English because defense is hard to study unless you have film. But, I get the feeling Shafer is forcing these guys to really read and react and make play and he is teaching them that. That may take awhile to figure out. You may see some take longer than others too.

Indeed. And if I recall, McGuffie had to round a corner on that run. We can give the other kid some credit and assume he took a very good angle in pursuit - giving the illusion that he's so close. Besides, McGuffie carries the ball like 30 times a game - you lag a little bit sometimes.

How coddled were these guys? I understand getting upset about asshole coaches...but dude, it is no different at Florida or Ohio State. And they've been helluva lot more successful than us lately. They're not working or berating you into the ground because they want to appear above you - they want to build you up above them. Playing football in college is no different than being a regular student at the university - you're both being prepared to succeed in an unforgiving world.
In short: STFU and beat OSU.

I want to agree with you, but, this guy does know what he is talking about. I guess it comes down to what constitutes tough love and motivation versus out and out verbal abuse of players. There is a balance and if the coaches go overboard, they risk losing the team before they even play a game. Its easy to just brush Boren off as a coddled little pussy, but, it becomes much tougher to brush this off if there are multiple defections after the spring practices are over. We'll have to wait and see.

Top-end savoriness: An epic drama
I noticed that guy almost run down McGuffie too. Worries me a little about his on the field speed but I'm sure he'll be fine.
Jim | 02.15.08 - 3:20 pm | #
I actually agree with everyone beginning to question McG's speed. His highlight reel is amazing but we've heard all year how he never plays good competition. His first playoff game and a d-lineman almost runs him down?? And then his team loses the next game?? I don't know, it might not be that big of a deal but I can understand the doubt that the video just posted raises.
FState | 02.15.08 - 3:36 pm | #
Gotcha, I agree. His on the field speed is what is a concern. His "on the track" speed is just fine.
Arbor | 02.15.08 - 3:41 pm | #
From what I understand, that is what has been the question with McGuffie all year amongst the recruiting sites. Everyone knows he can run a fast 40 but the analysts think his top end speed is fairly low for a running back. Maybe our new strength and conditioning coach can help with that?
Blue | 02.15.08 - 3:43 pm | #
The on the field speed comments actually hold some water Keegan. Watch the defenders in all of his highlight videos. None of them look like real athletes. It's easy to look fast when you play the competition that Sam supposedly has played.

About Jay's comment and your response. I don't want to know how coddled the old teams were. i think UM players, coaches and fans have been so sheltered and misguided the last ten years. I think UM has been lost from the rest of CFB. It starting to scare me how bad the UM program had been under Carr. I understand people worrying about RR and if what he is doing is right. But when do we question Lloyd and if what he was doing was wrong?

I think it's possible for there to be grey area.
In other words, Boren may not be a coddled pussy.
AND RR may not be verbally raping kids at practice.
Actually, most likely, Boren isn't a pussy, and RR isn't one of the Vietnamese Interrogators from The Deer Hunter.
The most likely explanation is that Boren's personality and that of the coaching staff didn't mesh. That doesn't mean Boren is a pussy, and it doesn't mean that the staff is assaulting it's players.

Interestingly, the UOS fan seemed excited about new life being breathed into the rivalry.

and for all those Bo-praisers out there, Schembechler cussed and berated more than any living person on the planet except perhaps his mentor, Woody Hayes. Contrary to published bullshit, Bo did not pat anyone on the back. Ever. That would've been soft and unmanly.
Boren didn't leave because of that, though, and he didn't leave because of the S&C rigors.
Boren left because his little brother Zach went from getting an undeserved schollie gifted to him from King Cronie Carr to getting a "No, thanks" from RichRod. This pissed off Daddy, who has said repeatedly that his boys will NOT play football at different schools. SO he took his Justin and went home. I think UM was like the CIA as far as what we know about what was going on inside. I doubt we actually know the extent of the deterioration of toughness. What's funny to me are all of the accusations about RR being a crook. Yet, didn't Lloyd let AA and Butler back on the team after fairly serious transgressions. Believe me, I question what in the hell was going on under Lloyd as well. Actually, I will be up front with you and tell you that I don't think he was a very good coach, the last few years especially, as it seems now like he had at least partly checked out the last couple of seasons. However, that doesn't preclude me from questioning RR and his coaching staff's tactics. Again, we'll just have to take a wait and see approach, I guess.

God that thread was classic. That KNOWLEDGE post sent me to the floor rolling.
And Jay, re: McGuffie - it's a testament to the direction of this program that the McGuffie hype is now taking a backseat to a plethora of other notable guys RR recruit. Terrence Robinson and Michael Shaw both grade out higher on recruiting services.
And let's be honest, if the old regime was still here, McGuffie would have either flamed out and left(like another burner, Mr. Justin Fargas) or just suffer from David Underwood syndrome and toil for 4 years. Hooray for the spread.

I liked Lloyd too. And I loved no matter how much shit I took for loses, I never had to be embarrassed about a scandal. But I don't think he did as well with all of his talent. I think Gittelson plays a role in that and I think the # of players who were big time recruits and weren't producing was scary. And the lack of depth, especially in the skill positions, was a sign that talent wasn't being developed. Plus, you never saw a middling recruit becoome a star.* That is my argument about the talent vs. results thing.

Braylon Edwards, Mike Hart, David Harris, Alan Branch, Larry Foote were all, off the top of my head, 3-star (or lower) recruits who were "stars".
I always point to it, but SMQ did a study that took a programs aggregate recruiting rankings and compared it to their winning % over a 10 year span. For the most part, they strongly correlated. Michigan, over that time, had the 10th best recruiting and the 11th best record.

I agree with chitown, Carr had his faults, but he was a pretty solid coach except for his woeful preparation of the team before the 2007 season. That cost him his job and put an end to the Bo Era. But in fairness to the guy HE WANTED TO QUIT but Sailboat Bill and Mary Sue begged him to come back for one more year. The rest is history. And remember, it is a GOOD THING that this all happened. I read the SMQ article and yeah, they were 11. Here's my problem with that. That means we were consistently 9-3. With that talent there should be more 11-1 12-0 records in there. Especially in a weak B10.

Look at his records - where did he underperform?
Aside from Appy St., I reject the idea that this year's team underperformed. Our defense was awful, and Oregon would have killed us anyway. We lost to OSU and Wiscy with no QB and no HB due to injury.
2006, they were good, no complaints.
2005 is the only legit complaint about Carr I can imagine. They were bad, and there was no excuse.
Before that, 9-3 with true freshmen QB and HB. Conesecutive 10-3 seasons. Then 8-4 during the evil-Navarre year. How is that disappointing?

Jay, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Harris, Braylon, Branch, and Hart were 3-stars. So Michigan did have it's share of "sleepers" if you want to cal them that. But the two point are not mutually exclusive. I think Gittleson STILL didn't maximize those guys' physical performance.
And that is scary.

But Keegan - if you're going to say that a 3* recruit becoming special isn't a "surprise", then Michigan will have virtually NO surprises, because how many kids sub-3* do we get? Like 2 a class?

Maybe this is unfair and all accept that if you think it. I think the disappointment comes from the lack-luster wins over poor teams. The struggles to beat Tressel. '06 was a joke of a schedule and then they lose the two games that matter most. I understand '04 and the freshman thing but '05 was a disaster, '06 was a breeze until the games really got tough, and '07 was embarassing. That's three years of meh football. Maybe it was the lack of exciting football. Maybe it was the high preseason rankings. I just always thought going into a year that they would be better than they turned out.

HOLY FUCK.
Jay, HOW the fuck does "track" speed not translate? I have never understood this. Do the lines on the field confuse him and slow him down? You know they're not speed bumps, right?
It's not like it's a handicap race where his pads weigh more than everyone else's.
I played lacrosse at a high level for years - and the kids that were faster than me in sprints were faster than me on the field. It's not like wearing a helmet changed the dynamic - ever.

And the people reply:
"Give us hell, Quimby!"
One, tiny, thing in one freaking clip and we're talking about McGuffie being slow. Holy. Shit.

Hmmm,
I would consider the '99 season a dissappointment only because had Lloyd not caved to pressure from outside forces and named Tom Brady the starter from the beginning, Michigan probably would've been in the BCS title game. The '03 season was a complete failure, imho. You had everything set up for a national title run and god awful special teams did them in early on. When your special teams blow, (which wasn't uncommon under Lloyd) that falls squarely on the shoulders of the head coach. Also, not only did they lose to USC twice in the Rose Bowl, but, they got run off the field and thoroughly outcoached in the process.

McGuffies best attributes are his agility and quickness. Track speed does not really require any quckness (start and stop quickness) yet football does. That's why the translation argument is pointless. Of course it will translate, because his best attributes are suited for football, not track.

Alex Mitchell can. Little jet lagged today so, I'm just coasting on caup's work.
More to the point, I agree in general that 3 stars should be considered "sleepers." However, not all 3 stars are the same. Hart was the leading rusher in NY HS history, but there were questions about his size and competition. Despite that, I thought he was severly underrated by the services at the time. Not all time leading rusher in Michigan history underrated, but underrated nonetheless.
Also, underrated.

Chitown,
You ever heard of James Jett? Dude was the fastest fucking player in the NFL. He would've beaten ANYONE in a sprint off the field. The guy was ROUTINELY run down from behing on the football field and was a bust in the NFL. There is a differnce according to the experts (which neither of us are). I think one of the reasons people get all slappy over McGuffie is because the dude is a white running back which is something we don't see everyday.

Yeah, Miami is obviously not a quality hockey team. I mean, they beat Michigan once, played a great game the second time, took the runner up for the past two years (with one of the nations top players) to OT in a virtual home game in which the winning team was outplayed for damn near 60 mins. But yeah, you're right, not a quality team at all.

Jay - I obviously don't have an ecyclopedic memory of James Jett's career, but I recall his main problem being an inability to catch. Also, yes, he was an Olympic sprinter.
And I'd agree that a decent amount of the McGuffie love comes from the color of his skin.
But, fast is fast, I think. I don't even see much video evidence of his speed being a concern, at all.

Guys, let's face it: Did anyone ever expect anything special out of Lloyd? No upsets, not HUGE wins since the '00 Orange Bowl, and many more dissapointments than anything. He probably could not coach or inspire his talent to do anything beyond what was expected of them Someone said that earlier, and I would say that was the main problem.
Is anyone really supried that UM won 76% of the games under Lloyd when you consider the annual schedule?
Let's have Rodriguez run the chaffe off, get his guys in here sooner, exponentially increasing the learning curve, and win sooner.

Fuck. Off. Jay. McGuffie consistently outruns defenders and you take one clip to make a case against his speed? The argument, the logic, and the proof are entirely without merit.
Just as using James Jett as an example is a fucking piss-poor effort. Do James and Sam share genes? Trainers? Background? You abso-fucking-lutely cannot compare two individuals to predict results. Your case sucks ass period.
Now, please, for the love of everything holy, stop.

@ Jay
James Jett was not routinely run down from behind. He averaged 17+ YPC during his career and was a great deep threat.
His problem was that he could not catch and did not have good WR moves.
If speed were the only criteria for being a WR, then there would be a flock of Olympians in the NFL. There aren't.

I think the PSU road game in 2006 was HUGE and was a great win. Remember PSU beat OSU in that same venue earlier that year. So please don't have selective memory. That was a very tough game, and PSU beat an SEC team in their bowl game that year. Thatgame was also well-coached with a very smart game plan.
Not everything is black and white.
I will agree that Carr/Debord/Moeller/Gittleson caused some degree of underachievement over the last few years but how many more wins does that means over the last 4 or 5 years? Maybe a handful.
