How can you possibly suggest Michigan never speak of WVU again? I really hope RR does well at Michigan, and I hope he stays for multiple decades, but eventually he will retire or be fired. If we are never to speak of WVU again, from where will we get our next coach?

From the previous thread, and this is just a hunch, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sarniak gave the Corvette to Jim O'Brien, who gave it to Jim Tressel, who gave it back to Sarniak so that he could give it to Pryor scot-free. If you've never heard of car laundering that's how it's done. I had a friend in H.S. whose Dad was a car salesman and while he never mentioned this scheme to me, I bet he could verify my gut on this one.

RichRod met with Faegin earlier today. sounds like he's kind of iffy on comin up here. sounded like he wanted to hear from RR that the job was his, BUT he is still taking an official up here in Feb.

Don't mean to get off the subject here, but ESPN just suspended Dana Jacobson for a week. Jacobson, a co-host on Cold Pizza, is a Michigan Woman and proud of it.
"Jacobson, reportedly intoxicated, was speaking at a celebrity roast in Atlantic City, N.J., when she unleashed a profane tirade, saying, "F--- Notre Dame," "F--- Touchdown Jesus" and finally "F--- Jesus."
I hope the suspension was only for the last sentence, not for the first two. I don't see anything offensive about those.

Henne keeps going on about how all the QBs at Michigan are not spread QBs. Not that they are not running QBs, but that they cant operate in the spread. I have a hard time getting all upset about what Chad Henne said. Regardless of whether he's thrown the ball or not, RR HAS put the QB in motion at all stops (the oft-referenced Shaun King year at Tulane included 800+ rushing yards). If Henne thinks Mallett wouldn't fit in that, whatevs - he's entitled to his opinion.

But more QB transfers may be on the way for UofM
http://collegefootball.rivals.co....asp?

Mallet's move doesn't surprise Henne
Rich Rodriguez's hire at Michigan has been one of the biggest storylines in college football over the past month. Rodriguez's hire will bring many changes, most notably to the Wolverines' offense. Former Michigan quarterback Chad Henne said he expects to see a whole new look from the Wolverines in 2008.
"I think it's going to be a lot different," he said. "(Rodriguez) is bringing the whole spread offense, and a lot of the quarterbacks are looking elsewhere.
"Ryan Mallett already transferred and two of the other quarterbacks are staying for spring ball to see what happens. It's definitely a change at the quarterback position, and we'll see how it works in the Big 10."
Henne said Mallett's decision to leave for Arkansas wasn't a surprise. Henne said the move was in Mallett's best interest.
"It was good for him to leave," Henne said. "Obviously none of us (Michigan) quarterbacks are spread-offense quarterbacks, and he wanted to go to an offense where he could throw the ball."

Sorry if this has been discussed already but I just watched BJ Daniels clips over at Rivals and I must say I'm a fan. The guy has the mobility and definitely a decent arm to go with it.
Part of me thinks I'd almost prefer him over Pryor if Pryor's other option wasn't OSU. Along those lines, I'm beginning to think of Pryor's potential in an offense outside of RR's. IIRC Vince Young really struggled early on (the guy threw like a freaking girl in our Rose Bowl game, which I think a better defense would've exploited) and I haven't seen much out of Pryor's clips to make me think he's going to be anything better early on. Senior year VY at OSU is obviously what we all fear, but how quickly can Pryor get to that level before he's gone?

Sort of like that. Hopefully you don't make this comment thread explode into flames while soaked in pig's blood.
Also, here's what Luginbill had to say about TP during his ESPN chat (nothing earth shattering):
-----------------------
Doug (Eugene, OR): What is the latest news about who Pryor is leaning towards for his college?
Tom Luginbill: (3:12 PM ET ) Okay, I am posting this question to clear things up about what fans think we think about Pryor. First and foremost, he will be making his decision with us on NSD live to open our show so what I/us may know between now and then will not be able to shared with anyone- sorry, but that is what our coverage on NSD is for. Second, we have never, ever said Ohio State is out of the mix-ever. What we have said is that they may not be as high as they were back in November due to Oregon, Michigan and LSU's push. Do they have a great shot? of course they do, but it may not be as easy as as it was before. I do know first hand that David Cutcliffe leaving Tennessee was a huge blow to Pryor as Tennessee had a much, much better chance than any of you out there truly know.

he sounds really intriguing. we dont need a guy to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. im very comfortable with a guy with a decent arm and the ability to scramble consistently for positive yardage. that was troy smith's MO and worked well enough, especially in the big ten. plus i like the idea of a bigger, more physical guy, especially the later we get into the big 10 season. we've got enough straight-up athletes (matthews, hemingway, potentially mcguffie and stonum) to run out of the backfield/bubble screens/etc so i'm failing to see how getting a qb with a 3.40 40 is going to make us that much better.

I agree that the 1100 club issue is probably petty. I'm sure there were proper controls. I know a couple of those donors, and they'll probably just shrug. What may be an issue are tax and overhead implications.
An example from my own experience: the WVU Foundation funded my research as the passthrough org while I was there, and it sure seemed to me that the U skimmed a heck of a lot off the top of my grants as overhead. While that's completely aboveboard, it may be that internal "laundering" that's the real issue.
Incidentally, Beilein is paying his buyout into the foundation as well; this was negotiated as part of his settlement and has some very real tax advantages to him. RR may not get that break.

No clue what you're talking about. As mentioned, I hadn't bothered reading throug the corvette-related posts, and still haven't. I'm guessing from your respons that you made a lot of them.
BTW, I know it's a joke, I just wasn't going to bother sifting through all of the "humor" to see if I'd missed any actual football conversation.
And while I wasn't calling you out then, I will note that those who offer the loudest (and most unsolicited) complaints/defenses often do so out of their own feelings of guilt. So if the shoe fits, feel free to wear it. ;-)

letstalkcorvettes...
forgive me for being defensive... your handle, seeing how this is the first time that i have seen it, would indicate that you were upset at me, for yes, i did start all the jokes involving the vette. However if you look at the subject of the thread, you would see it had to do with a stupid photo, and we were meerly having fun with that topic...
now if you will look at posts below the said picture post. you would see that the conversation was not about vettes, but rather on the fact that Henne had made some comments to the effect that yes, the other qb's are in fact nervous and will wait till spring to see what happends...
i take it from your last post, that you are indeed calling me out. since you and anyone on this board that has asked knows exactly who i am, where i live, what i do, and how to reach me, i would think you should know why i post here, and what i see my role as.

We have a lot of TE talent, my guess is RR will try to get those guys the ball a couple times a game, I'm thinking the TE will be more about receiving than blocking, because RR likes mutiple reciever sets, so a TE won't be on the field too often.

interesting to see how rr uses our te's.... will he line them up in slots... and match them up agaisnt nickel backs... will he put their hands in the ground, or will he not use them at all? i loved the comment RR made during the big run by the TE, durng the florida game...

Oh, did we get some righteous "let's only talk football" people in the threads? I'm sorry I missed that- I had so much fun pushing frank's buttons from way back.
I was pushing the sex mustache and corvette conversation HARD because there were a few too many people taking the Pryor sweepstakes seriously and getting all snooty about how Michigan's too good for this or that or MGoBlog's too good for this or that or be careful or we might end up like WFV fans or whatever.

I'm 1/4 Italian, although I don't look it (mainly because the rest of me is German). Perhaps my bloodlines are the reason for my Vette hating. In any case, I think we can all agree that if TP can't manage to get something better than a 3 year old (or older) Corvette, then perhaps he's not suitable material for the Leaders and the Best.
Ironically, with all my mockery of sex moustaches, I confess I have a beard. I grew it out for a Halloween costume, and the wife really likes it, so...the beard has stayed.

Emails from Rich Rodriguez and his agent seem to paint a pretty clear picture that he was indeed growing very frustrated with the way WV was being run, and that he had been contemplating leaving over those issues (to A&M or FSU). Doesn't look at all like a money grub looking to jump, but rather a frustrated coach (probably with a bit of an ego).
Only thing I don't like is reaching out to recruits before telling his team...but that's pretty small potatoes.

The following is grounds for suspension at ESPN:
1) Insulting the Yankees;
2) Insulting the Red Sox;
3) talking about a team other than the Yankees or Red Sox
Lets not forget when they told John Kruk you WILL say the Yankees will be in first place by the end of July. He said but I can't say that honestly. They said then you better come up with something.

"Hey Chad, if your teams had won a few more games for that staff you love so much they'd probably still be there."
that's the incomprehensible thing about the offense we ran against Florida... if we ran that from the very beginning of the season, there's no Horror. We're a helluva lot more competitive against Oregon, we put up major points and yards against the teams in the middle of the schedule, thereby getting Mallett some additional playing time. Which means that we have a much better chance of beating Wisky, and give the Bucknuts a better game. Michigan goes into the off-season with a tremendously potent offensive approach, which means in turn that Bill Martin is not going to hire a coach who will turn it upside down. Maybe it even means that English gets a more serious look, having been DC on a 10-2 team at worst going into a BCS bowl. If Carr & Co. wanted to guarantee a complete overhaul of the staff, they couldn't have done it any more effectively.

but i was thinking that alot of time the best convos we have are not neccesarily questions that brian is bringing up, but rather things that are being talkied about in the comments section, so if there was a place, where i could post x and o drawing stuff, that would be cool
but i dont want to do any work, so whatever...

this is what mike martin said about barwis “Man that guy is an animal,” Martin exclaimed. “He is a beast. “I would say that he stood out the most this weekend.”
When the recruits went to visit Barwis in the weight room, the youngsters were captivated.
“He showed quite a few exercises,” said Martin. “Then he got down there and performed them. I like a coach that can do the drills that he is showing you. He pulled out these big bouncy balls that you do crunches on and he jumps up on top on it. His assistant was throwing balls while he was catching them and keeping his balance at the same time. It was incredible.”
“It helps build your core,” Martin continued regarding the exercise. “He told us we all could do it. Mike Barwis said that we all will be able to do it although it doesn’t seem like that now. It does not matter where you start but where you finish.”
After witnessing Barwis’ exploits, Martin could only think of one word.
“Intense,” he said. “(Barwis) is very intense. Coach Rodriguez told all of the recruits that it is not a show. It is real and that he is like this all the time.”
The question now is, will Martin be in Ann Arbor the next four years to find out for himself?

i've seen parts of those older roasts, and i don't think winters was above a hooker/VD joke. or an AA joke wrt deano.
but the roasts these days are pretty vulgar compared to the the Martin/Carson et al days. definitely have heard worse than what dana jacobson said. imo, if she could have been the least bit cleaver/funny with the line, i could have passed. the killer was that it just wasn't funny, so much so that it came across as not intended to be funny, i suppose.

Orlando: I bet these guys are drinking 6 or 7 Monsters a day and sleeping 3 hours a night. They must be putting on the recruiting road trip of all time.
This year I think will stumble to the finish line, solid but not spectacular. But give these guys a year of working it, and I think recruiting becomes lights out! It's not that Lloyd couldn't recruit, but there is no way you can tell me that the energy level with Lloyd's staff is where these guys are at.

Fred Jackson - got offa his pony in Houston yesterday, visiting mini-T and McGuffie ... and '09 QB phenom Russell Shepard ( michigan.scout.com/a.z?s=162&p=2&c=722544 ). Also Khiry Cooper in sorta-nearly Shreveport.
RR - was in SE Fla. yesterday, visiting Justin Feagin and Star Jackson ... stay tuned ...
RR today. Moving on westward in Deep Dixie...
RR will move up to Ohio tomorrow, visiting Patrick Omameh ... and, IMO, the Trottwood kids.
Jay Hopson - rumbling through Miss. ... Desmond Johnson, Charles Mitchell ... '09 CB David Connor, etc.
Greg Frey - rumbling through Fla. ...
-- Jackson, Feagin, Martavious Odoms all closetogether on the eastside, Palm Beach area north of Miami.
-- Rhonne Sanderson and T.J. Lawrence on the westside.
(one note: it IS interesting that Hopson and Frey are focusing in areas where, traditionally, kids have mainly been considered to have had too-poor grades for U-M ...)
Bruce Tall - rumbling through Ohio
-- new Columbus guys Patrick Omameh and Isaiah Pead
-- Solon LB Steve Greer in the North, plus Koger
-- the Trottwood Madison kids in the Dayton area
Calvin Magee - Jaron Brown and BJ Daniels.
Rod Smith cruising mid-Pa. for possibilities
-- Adrian Robinson and Joshua Potts, both in Harrisburg.
These guys are all cross-traveling to cover the kids at their position as well.
-- Hopson - LB
-- Frey - OL
-- Tall - DL
-- Smith - QB
-- Magee - slots and TEs
-- Magee and Shafer hitting, respectively, all offensive and defensive kids

scout writer thinks pryor will choose um What five players are can't miss superstars and where are they going?
1. QB Terrelle Pryor - Big, fast, and smart. He has it all. He's the make-or-break recruit for Michigan, where he'd probably start from day one, but it's still a battle for his services.
Best Guess On Where He'll Go ... Michigan, but Ohio State is close

Right now, if I had to pick which recruit I wanted more - Nick Perry or TP - I would pick Perry. I think this guy is a beast and I really, really don't want to lose another top Michigan player to SC.
I also want to force RR to run a passing spread for my own selfish reasons (to prove he can do it again and shut up the Chad Henne's of the world who seem to think he is a one-trick pony).

Yeah William Lowe. I think the fact of opening up the Ohio State stronghold more-so then getting him is the main reason we're going after him. Glenville was impregnable until this season when Illinois took a 4 star WR out of there. I hope we get him as having two players go to schools other then Ohio State will potentially open them up. Hopefully this'll get more players from Glenville to look at Michigan, like Marcus Hall for next season.
It's interesting, we busted USC's stronghold on Long Beach Poly in their backyard last year. Maybe we can bust OSU's stronghold on Glenville in essentially their backyard...

Barwis wades in...
"Individual workouts have been quite an adjustment for these guys (Bo-esque). It will be interesting to see who lasts, but I'll say this ... I spoke to Dick Caldarazzo, starter on the '69 team, for a recent article, and he said those who didn't make it or chose to quit back then were not guys who were going to help them win. The strong will survive.
Not sure if we ever posted this, but we've heard Brett Gallimore is moving to California to become a cop. Not that we were expecting him to suddenly become a valuable contributor, but already down Ciulla and Mitchell, well ... the numbers continue to dwindle.
This has been quite a wake-up call. These guys are not here to make friends."

Assuming U-M still has 17 commits (it looks like the LBs will look-likey-likely stick, which takes the pressure off on having to find more of those) ... how to get to 25?
(for background to this question, it's easiest to look at: mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=162&am...p;sto=pagestart )
18. Nick Perry (being an optimist...)
19. JT Floyd (again, being slightly optimistic)
Then ... where will the six more come from?
20. looks like OL Patrick Omameh will come if U-M pushes ... Rhonne Sanderson is a possibility as well.
21-22 ... R2A2 wants 2 QBs ... will it be Pryor and Feagin???
23-24 ... R2A2 would like 2 slots ... will it be 2 of mini-T, Martavious Odoms and Michael Shaw???
25. Will there be a DB? T.J. Lawrence or Jaron Brown or Charles Mitchell???
U-M seems to have the least margin of error at QB ...

toledo, I like your thinking. I think...
Perry: Want. So. Bad. Don't think we get him.
Floyd: Slam dunk.
Feagin: Likely.
Shaw: Likely.
Lowe: Likely
Robinson/Brown/Lawrence: One of these guys.
OL: A couple nobodies.
Last, a couple three stars on D - maybe Greer or a CB/Athlete.
That's 25 with one to spare.

I'd love Michigan to say to TP: "We'd like you to get back to us by this Friday with a yes or no on our offer. We want you badly, Terrelle, but we are in a precarious situation right now and, if you choose to go elsewhere, we need to know before signing day."
Then, if he says yes, no problem. If he says no, we go big after a kid like Daniels, who, the more I read about him, is humble and skilled and every bit as likely to be a big-time CF player as TP. Daniels says this: "I'm very interested in Michigan, but how much could depend on Terrell Pryor and if they land him. There is no question Michigan is a great program and with Coach Rodriguez coming in, the coaches from Michigan have stated that they will be running the spread offense which fits my style very well. I don't have an official offer but I have been hearing from Michigan a considerable amount lately."
I'd rather have a bird in hand than two in the bush. And if asking TP for something now scares him away, then shoo.

I agree with the 1 in the hand. Hopefully if we could land Daniels, that may encourage Feagin to come too. It may help the impression that he has a chance to be the starter. Having TP as a #1 overall generally means coaches put a ton of stock in him being a #1. I'm having trouble wording this clearly, but I hope it makes sense.

if Pryor is going to give us the run around and then runaway - that is not good for the program, this feagin kid sounds promising, though.
Like I've said before, until TP faxes his LOI to AA, I'm assuming he's not coming and is going to OSU.
Side note - "Gilbert Godfrey" was on Stoney and Wojo today and he said "What's said at a roast stays at a roast," couldn't agree more. If "Fuck Notre Dame" is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I think two would be fine, maybe not ideal, but fine. I think Threet has a good chance at becoming the starter. Having a good option as a freshman now as well as a backup means we get at least 3 guys. Hopefully we never come to having to use a third starter. Its extremely rare we or anyone go to a fourth string.
Plus, only getting two makes the position open to a recruiting next year's crop of QB's.

Players don't have to sign on NLOI day, remember. It's just the first day that they can. The whole point is to give kids time to think it over without being pressured by a coach.

IIRC I can't think of one big recruit who declared after NSD. Kids are either going to commit early (like McGuffie) or commit on NSD (like Pryor). Committing later, as I said earlier, runs the risk of the class being full, and your commitment will not be honored.

Maybe I'm being overly fussy. But they're not required to say anything until NLOI day - verbals are a nicety, not a necessity.
I think the rule is that a kid can voluntarily declare earlier, but cannot be required. Withdrawing a scholarship offer due to an unwillingness to make an early commit isn't kosher, I don't think. Otherwise everybody would require it all the time.

TennBlue, that's actually how Texas recruits. Mack Brown offers you the scholarship and you have a certain amount of time to accept, or else he'll pull it. Thats why their regularly in the Top 10 of recruiting when the season's only half way over, and that's ironically how we got Mallett last year. Arkansas had just taken Mustain, and Texas was forcing him to commit or get the scholarship pulled. They already had an verbal from 5* John Brantley (who later decommitted and went to Florida) so Mallett committed to Michigan.

No one though he was going to Academically qualify to play in '07, the conventional wisdom was that he was going to have to go to a prep school in order to be eliglble for '08, he commited to WV on NSD (IIRC), but there was all the speculation if he would qualify.

mack brown can hold kids feet over the fire.. michigan could try to as well... but first of all, he runs the risk of kids decommiting later be for national signing day, and also i guarentee michigna would find a place for TP even if they told him he may not have a spot, if at the end of the day he said he wanted to play for blue.... and it may be at the expense of a kid who thought michigan was going to be giving him a scholaship

If that is the real Louholzlisp he has posted on here quite often, thats why i was surprised seeing that come from him.
RE: NSD - to reiterate my point - that is the first day a recruit can sign a binding committ to play for a school. However schools frequently offer more scholies than there is space. So lets say they offer 26 scholies and 25 players fax their letter of intent to Example U. Recruit X sends his LOI the day after NSD, his committ will not be honored because all the scholies will have been filled. It is in a players best interest (especially if he is being recruited by a big name U) that he fax in his LOI ASAP.

Is it unheard of for a kid to watch and see how another kid signs and then pull the trigger? For example, Daniels sits back and watches the Pryor circus and has in mind...

b) Pryor to OSU, I go to Michigan.
Does this happen?

RE: QBs not named Pryor. ESPN is reporting that Pryor will be the first person to declare around 1205pm on NSD, if he puts on a hat that doesnt have an M on it I wouldn't be surprised if other qbs then quickly faxed their LOIs to RR.

Scenario 1: We land TP by some act of God or Satan, pending your belief. We don't get another backup. Cone transfers. Threet and TP compete for the spot, perhaps do some sort of platoon job. Here is a huge question mark on who wins the spot, and/or the offense RR chooses to run first. If he say I want to go straight to the option, its TP, if TP fails, we have to recreate the offense to fit Threet in mid season. If threet wins out, at least we can throw TP in there and let him experiment. I think its easier to throw an athletic guy in a pass spread than a slow guy in a run thread without preparing (therefore if its even close, I'm for Threet starting). We go into next year short on QBs no matter what. Threet TP and Sheridan(?). If one gets hurt and one either fails/gets hurt, we lose the rest of the season. The next season we have a chance to recruit two QBs.
Scenario 2: We don't get TP, we have all our eggs in his basket all the way down to signing day. We get no other QBs of ANY value. Threet is the automatic starter because it is between him, cone, and sheridan. We go into a slightly pass heavy spread, not too heavy as we have good RBs. We use Threet a year, if he succeeds at all, he earns the loyalty of RR and the fans, he's a three year starter in a passing spread. At the end of his term, we get a option QB of the pat white variety.
Scenario 3: We dump prior, pick up daniels and convince feagin that he has a shot if he can beat out daniels. cone transfers. sheridan drops? huge crapshoot on who starts but at least we have two guys who can run RR's main offense.

I can only hope for a doubles game of Sharapova/Ivanovic vs Kournikova/Vaidasova. Kournikova is actually good at doubles. Vaidasova turned 18 on April 18th I believe (I had a MSU-esque count down clock last year).

I'm thinking that RR is telling these other QBs that he doesn't think TP is coming and that even if he does declare, I'll play the best available player, no matter what.
He might also be telling them - hey pryor is going to be the first to declare on NSD, turn on espn and if he doesn't go to UM, you come here and can start right away.
I have complete faith in RR, he hasn't fucked up... (yet?).

This is interesting:
"But many people around the country are starting to wonder: Is Meyer playing by the rules?
Not long ago, the Gators landed the top JuCo player in the country, six-four wide receiver Carl Moore, from Sierra Community College. Described as a “physical freak” by recruiting analysts, Moore would contribute immediately to an already stout wide receiving corps.
What we didn’t know at the time of the signing was that Moore’s girlfriend, Maranda Smith, also a former Sierra Community College athlete, was being recruited by Florida’s gymnastics team—allegedly by Urban Meyer also.
Moore and Smith are currently enrolled at UF, and Smith has already competed in an SEC gymnastics event.
The rub came when Smith went on record saying that Meyer began calling her “every day” about her coming to Florida—and asking about his prized recruit, Carl Moore, as well.
If that is the case, Meyer is wrong on two accounts: recruiting a player outside of his sport and making phone calls in excess of the allowed amount.
In response, University of Florida officials have begun a self-imposed investigation into the matter. Phone records will be checked and Meyer will likely be subject to questions no head coach wants to answer."

Nice comments on Rod on the front page of Rivals:
No offense to West Virginia, but it's not Michigan. How is Rich Rodriguez doing so far with the spotlight on?
From Tom Beaver, Publisher of GoBlueWolverine.com ... "Rodriguez, and staff, are impressing, and impressive, so far. Dismissing the whole coaching staff (except long-time RB coach Fred Jackson) was a real shock to recruits, and got several of the commits taking visits elsewhere. I didn't say so publicly, but when the whole staff was let go I thought recruiting would be in deep trouble, with half the really-good commit-class - and all the key commits - likely to leave. However, except for drop-back QB John Wienke who quickly and wisely jumped to Iowa, these kids are all coming back to the fold, and fast. This is quite a credit to RR and staff. Coach Rod himself puts the kids immediately at ease, and his staff is young and enthusiastic. And - crucially - they have hit the recruiting trail fast and hard. Special kudos to Chris Singletary, the recruiting coordinator who was retained, and how he kept these kids on the line until RR & Co could re-sell them ... masterful job for the young guy. Of course if RR doesn't land Terrelle Pryor, fans will panic (and rightfully so for the '08 season) ... but, to me, as a long-timer, regardless, Coach Rod has impressed me recruiting-wise (and I'm not easily impressed) out of the gate - especially with WVA's ludicrous attempted-Fatal-Distractions."
I don't know how much of this is rah-rah stuff for the fans, but it sounds nice, anyway.

I loved RR's note to Pastilong to announce his resignation for two reasons.
1.) Pastilong is obviously the reason that RR left WVU. If Pastilong isn't there I guarentee we do not get RR.
2.) I think that is about all that Pastilong can read. To put numbers next to words in the same sentence probably took him all day to figure out what it meant.

Because we made a couple Mason jokes the other day for some reason, which led to someone throwing out some really cryptic weird comments about how the Masons were instrumental in creating UM and how we should "watch ourselves" if we were going to joke about them.

For the record... MRG is correct that the original spelling of the song was "Cum on Feel the Noize." However, the credit for the inventive lyrical formation should actually go to a band called Slade. Quiet Riot covered the song, and the contradistinct spelling was indeed part of Slade's original composition.
Still, good catch!
And Brian, excellent post, as always. Thanks for the UM insight you share!

Not true. They separately reference the freemasons in the casino episode where Mr. Burns is acting like Howard Huges and the germs talk to him telling him freemasons run the country. If you will recall, Mr. Burns was a member of the stonecutters.

Is anyone else concerned that one of RR's gripes with WVA was WVA's dragging its feet in approving advertisements on the wall surrounding Mountaineer Field. Apparently, RR felt that WVA was missing out on revenue for the athletic department by not doing this.
I am all for Michigan keeping up with modern times in terms of how we run our athletic department, but I can't help be fear that RR is going to take away some of the things that us older fans (any by older, I mean over 30) love about Michigan. I, for one, do not want to see advertisements surrounding the field at Michigan stadium. Similarly, while I want us to be competitive with teams like USC, tOSU and LSU, I am not so sure that I want us to do so by sacrificing our ideals and going for someone like Terelle Pryor. Not saying that I 100% do not want him (and, let's face it, we will likely not land him), but I like that Carr generally tried to factor character into his recruiting.
Before everyone starts flaming, I am not saying that I am unhappy with the RR hire - I think that he is probably one of the top 5-10 coaches in all of college football - but I just hope that he appreciates that Michigan is different than most other places.

I'd hazard a guess that RRs biggest reasoning behind ads in the stadium is that WVU is poor. At Michigan, he just has to say "gimme" and someone will be quick to donate, negating the need for ads.

Good point, dex. I have a feeling that you are right because, in looking at the emails that were produced yesterday, it really is obvious that RR felt that he was being forced to try to compete on a national level with both hands tied behind his back by the administration, and even the governor.
gobluemich |
01.24.08 - 11:19 am | #

Precisely. Michigans athletic budget is like $47M, while WVU is about $17. Rich was wanting WVU to be able to play with the Big Boys, and knew that money was the limiting factor.
Rich didn't want advertising just to be a jerk. He was trying to build the WVU program any way he could.
So, no, I'm not worried about advertising w/ Rich Rodriguez.

@gobluemich
RichRod was looking for ways to generate additional revenue through "alternate" sources. I took it to mean that WFV only had so much base revenue to build the football program with, and it wasn't going to be enough for RichRod to stay competitive.
I don't think it means that RichRod loves advertising on the wall. Chill.

Maria played rather poorly those last 3 of the last 4 games. I don't think it was because she was playing to Jankovic's level (injured) either. She wasn't getting good placement on her tosses up. She also seems to be getting worn down, which is natural when you make it to the finals. She was dragging around in the last service game for Jankovic. I'm somewhat impressed that Ivanovic won (if she did). She looked awful in the beginning of the first set, which is all I watched. If she came back to win, she must have done it in impressive fashion and is entering the finals on a hot streak. Maria, she had a very poor showing yesterday despite the score. Maria's experience in the finals is probably to her advantage. Hopefully she'll be serving like she did in the quarterfinals. She was nailing impossible to return serves right and left.

Thought that one chick's grandfather was into the illuminati in DaVinci code. Plus I remember alot of talk in angels & demons about the freemasons & goofy crap they had put on U.S. currency & things like that. Hell, I could be wrong. I read 'em back to back years ago, then the movie confused me even more. Just remember about every one of Dan Brown's "FACT" statements were proved bullshit.
As far as the national treasure shlock-fest; even with my limited background in engineering, those movies slay me. I wanna see how it works to walk into a cave, spin a giant rock, and watch a 200ton granite door open 30 yards away.

If you're gonna belong to some crazy-ass secret club, then you might as well go all out and be a Scientologist. At least they believe in the Galactic Warlord Xenu, who was so bad-ass he murdered hundreds of billions of people with nuclear volcanoes and shit. That's way more interesting than some dudes in robes spouting lame-o incantations.

totally off topic (but this topic is ridiculous anyway) but my one of my work friends 9a female) just e-mailed me this chain e-mail which, apparently, profiles rapists. its so outlandish that i dotn have time to get into it in its entiriety, but this bullet point was especially ridiculous:
3. Men are most likely to attack & rape in the early morning, between 5:00a.m. and 8:30a.m.

A woman wants to abort a rape child? She should have thought of that before she walked down that dark alley without a male prescence, not to mention she should have thought before putting on revealing attire.

I hate the quality over quantity myth generally. As a teacher of fraternity recruitment, its probably the biggest excuse in the world for sucking.
In this case though, I may disagree. I do feel we need at least mediocre depth at some positions. The difference between one 5 star QB and a 4+2 pair is tough.

Hey, thought I'd add this since it looks like no one's mentioned it. Apparently Henne (cue hatefest re: comments on Mallett) has looked pretty darn good in the Senior Bowl practices and is improving his draft stock significantly (I've heard that, of everyone, he's probably improved his draft stock more than anyone). Scout reports have him practicing much better than Booty and Woodson and slightly better than Flacco, but have been impressed with his deep ball and velocity.
Just thought I'd throw that up there.

Speaking of fundamental religious things, my new favorite hobby when making my drives across the country, listening to fundamental religious radio shows. Case in point:
"You know how I know we're winning the war against abortion? You see people out marching, women and husbands marching because they feel regret for having killed their children. These people have found the light of God and regret the awful sins they have committed. God has offered them redemption. Beyond that, how often do you see people out marching after having kids regretting the fact they did not kill their children? How often do you see people who killed their children marching through the streets celebrating? We're winning."

No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead. Atheists have the greatest "cover" of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims.

@Brabbs,
The current fraternity recruitment worked well in the 70s and 80s. Now-a-days it needs an overhaul. They plan of big events to get people over and get them drunk doesn't entice the quality members we want. So most fraternities are moving to a several small events to build friendships prior to formal rush. It's a fairly basic concept. Get to know them, they'll want to join. As a fraternity field rep (travel from school to school making sure they run themselves properly for the business side of the fraternity), I have to put on rush workshops to try and get undergrads to soak these ideas in.
