The week of many posts continues.

I like posts. Posts are good.

congrats mayne

re. why everyone is freaking out about our recruits: 1) most people didn't follow recruiting during the lloyd carr era until recently and 2) richrod is under a shitload of scrutiny, more than he has ever faced, thus all of his decisions are being second, and triple guessed, and 3) most fans have the michigan superiority complex though that doesn't translate to football and recruiting

They could have excerpted at least 3 mgoblog comment threads for shear hilarity.

Hopefully this year's copy will arrive in my mail before The Horror renders everything it says irrelevant.

Gravatar Hey formerly. I was thinking I hadn't seen you around here in a while. Was I mistaken, or had I just been buffetted by the tidal wave of posts and threads?

Gravatar Nah, not been around. Work's been busy. Lots of traveling, hiding my blog addiction from significant other has resulted in less time around. Etc.

Gravatar I don't like waiting, can I pick this up at Schuler's or Barnes and Noble?

Gravatar @MHFM:

Eh, Brady played kinda poorly against Denver. He threw that INT to Champ for the pic 6, and they pretty much deserved to lose that one.

I'd count the Reche Caldwell "Deion Branch would've made that catch in a coma" drop, with which the Colts most likely never come back, and the Asante Samuel dropped interception against the Giants from this year.

And for the record, I'd touch his penis simply because by proxy I would've touched Giselle's vagina. And that vagina's worth $140 million.

Btw BGH:
I'm nominating your "jerk off one in a few hundred lifetimes" comment for comment of the decade (short form- Chunks of course wins long form). Hilarious.

Gravatar no barwis?

Gravatar To continue from the previous thread, its kinda sad that Brady isn't more connected to the program. The word a few years ago was that he was pretty fucking bitter about the way Lloyd and Co. handled the qb situation back in '99. I remember reading something online a few years back that he and most of the team that year felt that Henson was given playing time even though it was obvious both in practice and in games that Brady was more polished at that stage than Henson was. I'm sure the bitterness has subsided over the years. Supposedly, Brady has always liked Lloyd personally. He just felt he was given a raw deal his senior year and might've cost the team a shot at a national championship.

Gravatar @Jay:

The number of ex-players who have lost touch with the program is astounding and a shame. It would appear that the tide is turning on that, though- just last week there was a mention on Scout about 7 or 8 different NFL alums working out with Barwis IN A SINGLE DAY.

EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Gravatar Giselle Bundchen < Bridget Moynahan

Just sayin.....

Gravatar Re: that Denver game - the pick 6 was bogus - it should have been ruled a touchback when watson stripped bailey and the ball went out of the endzone.

Gravatar Who want to go in halfsies to buy Fingerle Lumber? I can front $5K if my business partner can pick up the remaining $21 million.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?h...c7& source=embed

I always liked that place because you would smell the lumber and know that you were getting close to the stadium.

Gravatar i heard brady say he disliked michigan cause they didn't run the spread in '99

Gravatar Michigan never would have had a shot at the '99 title. That FSU team was incredibly dominate - wire to wire #1 and Vick (who at that time everyone though was the future of the qb position and was a legit heisman contendator as a rs frosh) and VaTech were undefeated going into the title game and had a ton of media hype. No way UM even if they were unbeaten would have jumped either of those teams in the bcs standings.

Gravatar @Jay:

Perhaps, but imo MILF is always < an ILF. This is in holding true to my theory that pregnancy is a waste of a perfectly good vagina.

Gravatar I've been following recruiting since like '99. I think people will eventually realize that they shouldn't freak out about recruiting classes.
As exciting as a recruit seems the day he commits, the majority of these guys will be erased from our collective memories a year after they've been on campus. The only evidence of their existence will be those old recruiting lists we love to stare at on Rivals.
Like dude, remember how awesome it was when we signed Dough Dutch, Will Paul, or Mister Simpson? Who can forget the sweet feeling that overcame you the day Marquise Maze pledged to us verbally. By far the best day of my life had to have been when we got this beastly WR out of the south named Lateral Savy or something like that.

Gravatar I almost didn't type that, but thought "What the heck, it's not like you can go to Hell twice".

Gravatar I prefer Giselle to BM by a longshot. Both are obvious babes, though.

Although, the fact that Giselle had Leo up in them guts is something of a turn off.

Gravatar correcto mundo media union, you forgot quinton mcCoy, jerome jackson, jim presley, clayton richard, jeff zuttah, pat sharrow, roger allison, brett gallimore, alex mitchell, chris rogers. and that's just from 2003 and 04. so many players either end up hurt, get kicked out, or just suck. its a crapshoot as to who pans out and who doesn't.

Agree?

Gravatar yes book! Last years book was the shhizzzzzite. I read it in like 10 minutes. Ok, not really, but it was so entertaining that it seemed like 10 minutes.

Gravatar "Dough Dutch, Will Paul, or Mister Simpson?"

??? Aside from the fabulous name on the last guy, none of these three got any more than "OK, good, I suppose" out of me and a lot of other people.

You may have hit on the reason that Dutch has never done much, though: he's doughy. Barwis will cure that.

Gravatar @Jay:

True.

But Kate Beckinsale>>>>>>>>pretty much anyone.

And Emmanuelle Chriqui makes my top 5 based on personality alone.

Gravatar Jay, I don't know who those people are. SFW link (s)?

Gravatar @Don:

Oh man, I hadn't even thought of the idea of an in shape Dutch. That prospect excites me greatly. Man, I'm so geekeed about this hire- WE ARE GOING TO BE A MACHINE.

Gravatar Don, that was exactly my point. Some people new to the retardedness that is recruiting need a reality check.

Gravatar i bet a lot of people didn't think much of mike hart when we had max martin coming in.

Gravatar If anyone's interested in reading Simmon's get decimated by Chad Ford re: the NBA Draft, this is entertaining:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dr...ftDebate- 080624

The mental gymnastics Simmons deploys are worth a 10.0 in degree of difficulty and 0.0 in execution.

Gravatar Last year's HTTV was awesome -the Appy state preview, everyone must buy

Gravatar They could have excerpted at least 3 mgoblog comment threads for shear hilarity.

Gravatar While I don't like Simmons, but I've had a tough time taking Chad Ford seriously ever since his series of "OMG Darko is the greatest 7-foot prospect ever!" columns back in '03.

Gravatar @Ninja Football, having given birth, I endorse your intriguing ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

TMI, I'm sure.

Gravatar ....What, no chapter written by Chunks the Hobo on famous Michigan athletes whose shit he has stolen to buy ripple?

...no action photos of McGuffie leaping over the produce counter at Meijer?

Gravatar This sounds terrible, but if I impregnate someone, no matter how much I love and cherish spending time with them, I'm going to be a little embarrassed to be seen in public with her when she reaches the "omg giant beast stage" of pregnancy.

Gravatar Speaking of Jim Presley. He went to my high school and was a year behind me. He was probably the dumbest kid I've ever met, had the football coach for 5 out of 6 classes a day, HUGE racist (confederate flag on his truck) and probably took steroids. The best part is that he got a Michigan helmet tattooed on his back, then failed out first year. The moral of this story: don't get a team helmet tattoo if you're likely to fail out (or your coach is Nick Saban).

Gravatar presley certainly looked the part of a skinhead

Gravatar @bgh, since it would be ALL YOUR FAULT and you wouldn't have to live with them on your personal body, a little embarrassment is a small price to pay.

(Okay, not really all your fault, but you know what I mean.)

Gravatar Other Chris, I fully undertsand that opinions such as the one I just expressed are just one of the reasons that my genetic heritage will die a slow, lonely death.

Gravatar Daniel L - how'd he have the football coach for five periods? Didn't he have to take X number of core curriculum courses to be eligible?

Gravatar Ford says:
No offense to the Page 2 VP of Common Sense, but common sense is seriously overrated. Maybe it's all the college classes I'm teaching, but I've noticed that time and time again, the pick from the "gut" is just wrong. Most people let emotion and years of blinding worldviews get in the way of the more analytical choice.

I know we think our guts are right. But that's because of something called cognitive dissonance. Once we make a choice, we have to convince ourselves that it was the right choice. So we marshal all the evidence that supports our choice and ignore everything that doesn't...
I'm not saying stats have all the answers. But Hollinger's system outperforms NBA GMs every year.

Simmons responds:
As for everything else, you just made my head hurt. Stop getting all collegiate/intellectual on me -- maybe it works with the coeds in Hawaii, but we have a mock draft to finish.

Gravatar Simmons is now my hero.

I have no idea how, but it did happen. The quarterback had him for 4 of 6 classes.

Gravatar @bgh, since it would be ALL YOUR FAULT....

@Other Chris:

See, that's part of my issue. the type of women I date, well, aren't timid is the best way to put it, and I can just see my future wife screaming "You did this to me!!!" while in labor. Then again if I change my mind there's no way in hell I'm in the delivery room. Not a chance.

Anyway, I was an angel growing up and I've put my parent's through enough shit, I can't imagine what my karmic retribution would entail. Plus, when you have kids you have to be civil to their friends and their friends' parents, and I prefer to choose the people I hang around because I'm a conversational and intellectual elitist.

I think Loius C.K. said it best when he said "You can love your kids and NOT love being a father." I'd rather not be that guy, if I was going to have children I'd like to be completely psyched about it.

Gravatar In high school we had a coach for geometry, alegebra 1, precalc, us history, world history, geography, government, economics, health, psychology, chemistry 1, physics 1, biology, and spanish 1. that covered everything but english. I think they hired a coach for that the year after I graduated. I guess thats the benefit of Texas High School football in a school of over 4,000 kids, lots of coaches to inflate grades.

Gravatar *and have sexual intercourse with soccer and softball players.

I know, I doubted the softball players too, obviously they were all dikes, but yeah, it happened.

Gravatar BGH:

Don't worry man, our genetic heritages (is that the correct pluralization?) can pal around like the guys in Grumpy Old Men.

Gravatar But civil is generally managable, and I got to hear great RichRod gossip (which none of you believed) at a school event from a parent whom I believe to be a complete tool.

So there are benefits to widening your social circle to include chit chat with people you'd otherwise avoid (and who'd otherwise avoid you -- it's pretty clear I don't have a spare million lying around).

Gravatar I generally leave those sort of people with a:

Go hang yourselves all: you are idle, shallow things, I am not of your element.

Then again, I'm an elitist sometimes.

Gravatar What gossip? Ooh, ooh, do tell!

Yeah, I know there are lots of reasons, I just think I'm cut out to be more of the "cool/crazy uncle" than a dad. But then again, one of the benefits of being a guy is I could pull a Larry King. I mean that guys been dead since 1993 and he just had kids, right?

Gravatar hey new job...can they see that I'm on this all day long?

Gravatar No, it was during the coaching search, and he said "RichRod" and I came here and said, "RichRod" and everyone said "No way!" "You're an idiot!" etc.

Gravatar @Anon:

Depends. Probably but how much do they monitor it? State Farm could totally tell I'm here all day but haven't blocked the site yet, which completely surprises me.

Gravatar Hmmm...maybe I should close this window once in awhile

Gravatar Oh boy. Where to start. First, a vagina that has pushed out a kid tends to be a bit softer, and folds around the penis much like a warm piece of liver. Young (not TOO young, if ya know what I mean) vagina is nice, but again, something about thirty-sih, that has pushed out a kid or two, been exercised back into shape, and is married to some other doofus that she can cheat on with you, is best.

I love the line about "you can love your kids without loving being a father" and if that ain't the truth, nothing is. Yup, you might love the kids (espcially if you found out, at divorce time, that they weren't yours), but you CAN despise being a father and having to go home every fucking night and having your life divided up into little 15 minute segments. Of course, and don;t let anyone tell you the opposite: You spend more time jerking your pud after marriage than ever before, and hope your wife has good looking friends that you can either pork on the side (a very common American past time), or pretend to be porking when you roll her over onto her knees.

Gravatar Ah, so you had the scoop!

Nice. I'd totally rub that one in every chance I got.

Gravatar @Other Chris

How dare you side with DickRod! Les Miles was our guy! He has les miles than Carr!

Gravatar babies are like little gifts from God. And by little gifts, I'm equating them to paper bags full of feces that neighborhood kids light and leave on my door stoop.

Gravatar Damn cookies!

Gravatar @JHS:

Are they saying we're not funny though? Bastards.

H4H:

Yes, and the top 3 or 4 kicking recruits in the country are expected.

Gravatar "You spend more time jerking your pud after marriage than ever before, and hope your wife has good looking friends that you can either pork on the side (a very common American past time), or pretend to be porking when you roll her over onto her knees."

Worse yet, pretending it's her sister. Trust me.

Gravatar thanks Ninja.

I know a lot of people who love a restaurant called Ashley's on State St...so am I the only one who's never heard of or seen it?

Gravatar Funky: Scott Shafer, not Steve.

Gravatar @H4H: Ashley's is a pretty good bar, but I never went regularly when I was there as an undergrad. It is definitely more of a grad school/post-grad place. Lots of beers on tap.

Gravatar You've never heard of Ashley's? Really?

Gravatar Maleh Redd, the smurf who ran back to back 4.27s at camp, committed to CMU today.

Gravatar @ BS
Give me the liver. It doesn't want to talk or cuddle when we are done.

Gravatar It caused Rocky Mountain News columnist Paul Campos to pen an entertaining piece about the insane few weeks in between Carr's resignation and Rodriguez's hiring, during which any one of us would have beaten a man to death with his own limbs if it meant the coaching search would reach a satisfactory conclusion.

Quoted for truth. I don't want to go through that again for another 50 years...at least.

Gravatar Holy God there are some depressing comments on this thread.

I'm happy to report my new job and boss are a huge improvement over my old situation so I will off the day shift for a while. Until I decide I can't deal with cube life any more and decide to become a repo man.

Gravatar Ninja: Um, did you...sign up at Scout?

Gravatar dex, I have been living in a cave on South Forest.

Gravatar @Blue:

Congrats on the new gig man- nothing worse than hating your job.

@BS:
I'm in the middle of my 7 day trial. Not sure if I'm gonna stay or not, haven't really decided.

Gravatar OH FUCKING HELL! Finally! Awesome. You have already jumped into the Top 3 of posters.

Gravatar BUT: You should have protected Ninja Football by signing up with something else. I'm there under a different name to protect myself. Alot of those guys (if not all) read this blog.

Gravatar don't know if this is true, but it seems like Scout def. has more inside information, as well as having staff that works closely with the recruits.

not only do they break recruiting news first, they also provide pretty solid info on player's thoughts and decisions.

my only problem with them is their ranking system. inconsistent.

Gravatar Woo, colin! Do you guys get paid for this writing?

Gravatar Fucking Scout kills Rivals. It's just that the posters on Scout will drive you up a fucking wall. But Ninja will turn it into some good material for this place.

Gravatar WTF happened to Jim Presley? How did he fail out? Where is his dumb ass now?

Gravatar Ninja-

It's not quite a new gig. I'm still at the same company, but I have a new boss and group to work with.

I'd whine about turning the big 3-0 Friday, but whateva.

Gravatar BS:

As far as protecting my handle, I don't really plan on posting anything here verbatim. If I have some info and someone asks a question I'll answer, but to me there's nothing wrong with me saying "Hey, did you hear __________" with friends- it's the same thing I do with my brother, except I'm calling him. It's obvious Brian has a membership, and if anyone REALLY wants to know they can drop the $10 a month or whatever.

Gravatar No, not that. I think Scout is OK as long as you credit them. As I do. I mean if you say something like "Boy, those Scout posters are fucking retarded" Though true, they might get mad at you if they see it.

Gravatar Ninja: I PM'd ya. Turn your "inbox" on and check your PM's.

Gravatar Oh man, fuck that. The great thing about making fun of stupid people is they never, ever think you're talking about them. Besides, I'm just here for my own amusement- anyone else is merely a bonus, and if they don't like me they can eat shit and die. And I mean that in the nicest way possible. Which is not at all. :)

Gravatar Other Chris:

Supposedly!

Gravatar With all the hype surrounding Stonum, where will Clemons and Hemingway fit into the lineup?

Gravatar Ninja, the "runaway cantaloupe" and "Chunks homeless encounter" comments were the product of my excessive drinking. Drunk anything - posts, letters, emails, calls, sex - haven't been to good to me over the years so that's why I post as anonymous most of the time (because I'm mostly drunk). I figure it protects my true hidden online identify, which as a hint, can't be contained when Clarkie from Canada comes on this board.

Gravatar YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD. I should've guessed it was you.

Stay sober? Wtf is that? I never did ask. Btw, I think I may have torn my ACL last week. You're off helping the homeless and I'm tearing ligaments, guess I should quit slacking. My first real drunken injury, though, and the actual injury happened today at work, it was the weakness from the hyperextension that sealed it.

Hey Bluewolverine:
#1 kicker in the country committed to FSU tonight, no idea if he's still coming to camp this weekend or not.

Gravatar Truth is, the one homeless girl - Kelly was her name - looked pretty good to me. She said she was 22 and claimed she had a baby to feed. She could not claim she had cleanly shaven arm pits that's for sure. Her and her friend, Ace, were appreciative of the breakfast burritos. They set me back $11. Yeah, $11 when I could have just scrounged for quarters. I'd like to think it was generosity that gripped me in my stupor but I'm pretty sure I was hoping it would lead to a blow, toothless or otherwise.

Gravatar Dear Brian,

Why was I not asked to do an article in "Hail to the Victors 2008"? I could have many negative things to say about Michigan and would like to put them in your preview magazine!

Plus a lot of these things I do not know too much about, but I can still find a way to "throw some mud" on Michigan football.

Gravatar Attention scrubs from Bama!!!!

Gravatar In reading up on the NBA Draft, I hope the Pistons draft this guy:

Walter Sharpe | PF | UAB
This former blue-chip forward from Alabama struggled with grades and narcolepsy during his college years, but the scouts -- and especially the Wizards -- are intrigued by his talent.

Gravatar Say, anybody here ready for a good time?

Gravatar I'm trying to figure out any rational reason for the Bulls to draft Derrick Rose, and I can't come up with one. Are they going to deal Heinrich or Gordon? They'd sort of have to, right? They haven't had a post player in years.

Gravatar I'm trying to figure out any rational reason for the Bulls to draft Derrick Rose, and I can't come up with one. Are they going to deal Heinrich or Gordon? They'd sort of have to, right? They haven't had a post player in years.
chitownblue 00 | 06.26.08 - 10:16 am | #

Fast point guards are deadly in the NBA now. CP3, Deron Williams, etc. Heinrich can't play D because he's too slow, Gordon is better trade bait. Had Jay Williams not got in a motorcycle accident Chicago would have been amazing the last couple years.

Also, we're talking about the franchise that drafted fucking Joakim Noah. He's terrible.

Gravatar Sharpe just might be the sleeper of the draft.

Gravatar The longer the Bulls keep fucking up, the longer the Pistons can keep running on fumes and be legitimate threats in the East. So, with that in mind, I hope they draft the big French guy.

Gravatar They also payed the rotting corpse of Ben Wallace 100393 million dollars to kind of play 3/4 of a season and help incite a revolt against the head coach (who was a huge dick and quite deserving, but that probably didn't really help matters).

Gravatar Rose is probably the best player in the draft. It's one of those draft for need vs. draft for talent type of questions. I would imagine they might try to deal Hinrich. If that doesn't pan out, I don't think Hinrich's so good that he couldn't come off the bench for them. D.J. White might still be available in the 2nd round as a post player.

You're right though, they need to address their front court somehow.

Gravatar Hans, you have the winner of the day. Fabulous prizes and cash and all that...

Gravatar Yes, Hans wins the morning round of mgoblog.

I would love it if the Pistons took Bill Walker (I'm assuming CDR will be gone). He's seems to be slipping quite a bit though, probably because of the knee. Detroit hasn't had a decent back up to Prince forever and the team could use some more athleticism.

Gravatar Thanks, guys. I already know where I'll be dropping the first $11 of the cash prize.

Gravatar I heard Sharpe shoots lights out, especially when put to the test.

Gravatar According to JDub389 on the ESPN comment of the day, Rose will have the same impact as Lebron did in Cleveland.

Gravatar Is Beasley that far behind Rose?

The Bulls have fucked up a golden opportunity. They signed the corpse of Ben Wallace, and then traded Tyson Chandler, who's the same fucking player, but 10 years younger. They got JR Smith for him, who isn't great, but at least has his uses, and then outright released him.

Then, they draft Tyrus Thomas (who's a Tyson Chandler clone, which is fine), and then drafted Joakim Noah, who does everything Thomas does, just does it a bit worse, with 1/4 of the athleticism. It sucks when you use a top-10 pick to take a guy who's ceiling is "back-up power forward". In my mind, playing a guy like Thomas, who will never be great offensive player, at center, and calling Nocioni a "power forward" is a bigger problem then anything Heinrich or Gordon bring to the table.

Gravatar In the NBA, you draft the talent, and trade the excess for what you need. Otherwise, you unnecessarily inflate the value of a player in the draft just because he "fits" what you need. That is a path to tears. For the most recent example, see: Oden, Greg.

The Bulls should draft Rose, IMO.

Gravatar It's hard to say that Oden is a bust - they couldn't foresee that injury.

Gravatar But they can see his 57 year old face.

Gravatar Beasley's not considered that much worse than Rose. Some might think he's better. Rose's main advantages are that he plays a position that's in relatively short supply, plays better defense and is less likely to discharge a firearm in a night club. Beasley is probably the better scorer. One comparison to Beasley that I believe Simmons made, and I feel is fairly accurate, is Big Dog Robinson.

Gravatar I hate to say it - but wasn't Derrick Rose the 2nd best player on his own team? I don't know.

Gravatar With CDR and Dorsey, Rose didn't have to score a ton of points for Memphis. It's sort of like Deron Williams, who wasn't overly impressive statistically at Illinois, but had Dee Brown and Luther Head as scorers. Beasley was a one man team once Walker was injured and ended up with 26/12.

Gravatar Beasley is, unfairly or not, going to be hounded by "character issues" that people aren't seeing/creating in Rose.

It sounds ridiculous on the surface, but FreeDarko brought up how many people are going to say Beasley is "lazy" or "unmotivated" because of the way his eyes look. That's probably exaggerated, but the Heat are supposedly backing off him for reasons other than basketball ability.

Gravatar Since we're talking NBA, what are thoughts on

a.) Baron Davis to Detroit?

and

b.) O'Neal to the Raptors for TJ Ford?

Gravatar I just love this jewel from that article:

"The guy from the Jersey Shore who married a Jersey girl and just happens to coach the highest-profile sports team in any league at any level."

Gravatar Baron + Harrington for Billups + Rasheed seemed kind of dumb for the Pistons. According to McCoskey, that was never discussed anyway.

Maybe the Bulls should talk to Toronto because between O'Neal, Bosh and Bargnani, they might want to move a big. Is it possible for a trade to make both teams worse? I think this was a salary dump by Indiana and a name grab by Toronto.

Gravatar I like this move by Toronto. O'Neal won't have to be a banger, Bosh handles that. Bargnani was just a pussy euro shooter anyway. Now Bosh can play C, O'Neal as a KG like PF, Bargnani as the shooting SF, and they have a good PG on the bench right?
I really like Toronto come next year based on this trade.

Also:
"Baron + Harrington for Billups + Rasheed seemed kind of dumb for the Pistons."

I think that trade would be awesome. Some defense is lost, but Baron Davis would be terrific on the Pistons paired with Rip and Tayshaun and the other energy guys they have. And I hate the Pistons.

Gravatar I'm unclear - what has Beasley done that = character issues? I'm not saying he hasn't done anything, I'm just unaware of anything about him aside from the fact he kicked ass last year.

Gravatar True story: I was talking to one of my brah's last night, and he said it would be unwise for the Pistons to trade for Harrington because he is a "thug". Since when is there "thugs" in the NBA?

Gravatar From USA Today:

"Mum on Michigan

Four-star dual-threat quarterback Kevin Newsome talked about a lot of things after the Elite 11 qualifier in Las Vegas this past weekend.

He talked about his performance. He talked about his transfer from Western Branch (Chesapeake, Va.) to prep-school powerhouse Hargrave Military Academy this fall and how it will help him develop as a quarterback and a man. But the one thing he didn't want to talk about was his commitment to Michigan.

"No comment," Newsome said when he was asked about that commitment.

Newsome's commitment has come into question of late. Close family friend Lew Johnston told The Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk that other schools have continued to recruit Newsome, including Virginia Tech — the school he grew up rooting for in Virginia.

"I thought when he picked Michigan he jumped the gun a little bit, and I was disappointed," Johnston told the newspaper. "I told him that. We're very close, and I've told him I'd like to see him stay closer to home. I'm not going to push it, but there's something about playing in your home state."

Johnston apparently isn't a big fan of Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez. Johnston said Newsome was told by Michigan that he would be "their guy," then Michigan a few days later landed a commitment from four-star quarterback Shavodrick Beaver of Wichita Falls, Texas."

Gravatar As a Warriors fan, I'd be sad to see Baron go, but getting Mr. Big Shot and Sheed in return for him and Harrington? I'll take it.

Billups is old and done. Rasheed fried his brain on weed. Enjoy.

Gravatar Pistons front court is thin as is. Take away Sheed and there are some issues. Baron is a slight upgrade over Billups, but there's a hole hole at PF/C, even with an improved Amir.

Bargnani at SF is fine until you get to the defensive end and watch him get eaten alive.

Gravatar hole hole = huge hole

Gravatar Hey, it's not like Harrington's exactly lighting up the world with his performance, plus BD is injury prone and too inconsistent. I love him as a player, but he's far from perfect.

Gravatar My favorite line from the Weis article was "[a] 3-9 season, including a loss to Air Force and the first loss to Navy in 44 years, offered the perfect pause." Yeah, a perfect pause in employment. Seriously, going 3-9 was just what Weis needed to realize coaching at ND would be hard? No really, it's for the best.

Gravatar Last year was the first year that Davis hadn't missed at least 15 games since 2002. If he could stay healthy, I would be much more ameniable to that trade.

i guess they wanted RR to put out 1 offer in the hopes that Newsome takes it and doesn't leave them completely screwed.

Quarterback recruiting ala The Firm. No doubt.

Gravatar I don't think Beasely has done anything, except for being a naturally talented scoring machine who played on a bad team and had to shoot a lot. Therefore, he = thug.

The only real "issue" is that he attended like 4 different high schools.

The book or the shitty Tom Cruise movie?

Gravatar Those comments in the USA Today article don't jive with other comments that people have posted on here, where Newsome said he knew that RR was recruiting other qb's, and was fine with it.

Johnston sounds like a moron....if my high school coach tried to talk me into a particular school...well, he would have never done that, so I don't even know...

Also, they asked Newsome about Mich., and he gave a "No comment". What?

Gravatar Maybe the Beasley issues have to do with the KSU-Huggins connection??

Gravatar Newsome is smart enough to realize that commenting on recruiting can only be held against him. I really like that he had no comment. If he said, I'm committed to Michigan, then people would bitch and moan if he changed his mind (which he can if he wants. He's a talented athlete/student, his choice is his choice). If he said he was open to recruitment people would bitch as well. At least with no comment he just avoids it all.

Gravatar KSU-Huggins connection? Didn't he go from Cincy to WVU? I'm confused.

All I can tell is that Beasley went to some frat parties. I guess I see it - why would the NBA ever want a player who likes to party?

Gravatar chitown, Huggins coached one season at K-State before leaving for Morgantown. His team lost in the second round of the NIT.

Gravatar Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he was the one who recruited Beasely to K-State in the first place.

Gravatar Michael Jordan was a partying gambler who hung out with rather unsavory types. No one ever called him a thug.

Gravatar New post?

Gravatar "No one ever called him a thug."

Being the best basketball player on the planet will kind of help you out in that regard.
