kudos, brian, on your prediction...

I'm surprised you haven't bragged about it, yet.

only an extra point off from a perfect prediction is mighty fine work.

Gravatar Given my previous record I think woofing about the one dart I threw anywhere near the board would be faintly ridiculous.

Gravatar The extra point is assumed in this instance. I believe we can safely say the score was 2(4)-20, making the prediction right on.

Gravatar My major complaint with the game was that at the end of BOTH halves Lloyd could have used one of his timeouts to force Iowa to kickoff to Breaston. Giving Breaston TWO extra chances with the ball seems like a good idea to me. Am I misguided?

Gravatar The comments thing wasn't working before, so I apologize if two or three of these show up.

Brian, your discription of any Michigan's fan reaction to the win was spot on. Weakly pump fist. Slump over. It's like we've OD'ed on adreneline. There's nothing left in the tank.

The Washington Post sports section reported on Sunday that Michigan's last five games have been won in the last 24 seconds or in OT. More like Michigan's last five seasons.

BTW, please translate "fiddling with bits." I thought this was a family site.

Gravatar Nil8tr, I thought about that, but I wonder if Carr was worried that if he did, Ferentz would suddenly snap out of his Carr-like state and play for the win.

TX Blue, I think the AP story on the game said the same thing. I recall reading it somewhere other than WaPo, that's for sure. Apparently they didn't know about the two Directional State games. Also, I reached the 'weakly pump fist' point *last* Saturday at TheNewMath o'clock.

Now I *know* we're gonna lose to NU...

Gravatar "fiddling with bits" == "coding blogpoll stuff"

Gravatar that is exactly what i did. raised my arms, mumble-muffled a "yes" and walked out of the room, relieved.

of course, this was after i kicked the TV stand after carr failed to play aggressively on our last drive, knocking the basement TV comatose. consequently, i missed most of the OT, including avant's catch, as i scrambled to quietly straighten up the mess lest my wife come down and have me jusifiably committed.

Gravatar Ah yes, I can see where "fiddling with bits" could mean something as innocuous as coding the computer whatsits, or whatever you young whipper-snappers do these days with these new-fangled hoopdie-doos. But as for me, "fiddling with bits" just made the list, between "spanking the monkey" and "exposing Larry Harrison."

Gravatar Brian,

Love the blog but must point out that our last series in regulation was not "run, run, run, punt" It was a six play drive, with one first down. We tried to pass twice, Henne missed a wide open Brian Thomspon and then was sacked but we caught a break on a face mask penalty. Given Henne's inabilty to hit Thompson from 5 yards away and JJ's 8 yard run on 3rd and 2, I think Lloyd and Terry made the right calls.

Gravatar I've always said that on insurance applications "Are you a Michigan fan" should be right up there with "Do you drink" and "Do you smoke" in terms of risk-factors.

Gravatar Chris, I agree. If we'd made aggressive use of our timeouts on Iowa's last series, chances are that KF would have changed his 2nd and 3rd-down plays, knowing that we'd be getting the ball back. It was better to just let him play for the FG (although we could've used a TO after the 3rd-down stop, and given ourselves 20 seconds or so).

Gravatar My argument about playcalling goes deeper, and I know I am beating a dead horse. If the coaches can not trust the QB to make a 5 yard pass, why is he in the game?

Michigan's schedule is now ranked #1 according to Jeff Sagarin. Kinda surprising.

Gravatar You're definitely beating a dead horse.
