The TV station I work at did a 3 or so minute story on Cato June the rapper. I was going to send it your way, but I wasn't sure of the "keeping-my-jobness" of it if it got out, and I didn't know if your central nervous system could take it.
Not bad as far as athlete-rappers go, though.

The Citrus Bowl is almost certainly going to take Auburn because they're playing well and will bring a lot of fans. The Outback and Cotton go next, I'm not sure in what order. The Cotton generally takes a team from the West and Alabama is a perfect fit because they travel, they have a long history with the Cotton Bowl (Bear coached in the game a number of times,) and they can set up an interesting Bama-Texas Tech match-up. That leaves the Outback picking between the SECCG loser, Florida, and South Carolina. They won't take Georgia because UGA was there last year. South Carolina will bring more fans than anyone else in the SEC because 7-4 to them is like 10-1 to anyone else. The Peach Bowl would love a Georgia-Clemson match-up because it's a guaranteed sell-out and a traditional rivalry. That leaves Florida as the odd team out headed to Shreveport.
That works out for Michigan because South Carolina is the most beatable of the top six teams in the SEC.

Okay Michael,
Now please explain to all of us WHY the Outback will choose an unranked 7-4 South Carolina team over an 8-3 #17 Florida team who'd be playing in their own backyard; a Gator team that would definitely sell out the game? I think Michigan is going to face the Gators, who are hot as a pistol right now. I think the South Carolina matchup is wishful thinking. If Michigan plays Florida, Michigan will be the underdog in their 3rd straight bowl game. Not good. In their last 5 bowl games, Michigan is 2-0 as the favorite, and 0-3 as the underdog.

I don't think it's a done deal that UF would sell out the game, whereas the wild and crazies from Columbia would show up in droves. USC-East fans want nothing more than to cheer for even a remotely decent team, and will descend on any bowl town in rabid packs of insane maniacs screaming "Cock-N-Fire".

I really hate to be a downer here, but Michigan is really in a sad state when we are trying to avoid teams for the bowl game.
Bring on Georgia. Hell, if Michigan loses, then LLLL(L)oyd can take some more heat. He needs all the heat possible, maybe by some miracle he'll wake up! It would be a shame to see Henne and Hart's Junior years be fruitless and this might be a good way to help. If they beat a team like Georgia, at least there will be some consolation. I see a game with UGA as a win-win.

Anthony,
What many Michigan fans are saying is that this is an admittedly down year for the Wolverines. Numerous VERY key players, such as Hart, Long, Massaquoi, etc. will be missing the bowl game.
Instead of Michigan playing a Top 15 team and get pasted a la 2002 Citrus Bowl, they want Michigan to play a team that they are on par with. That's all. The Citrus Bowl was a bowl-scheduling FIASCO that should've never occurred. If Tennessee didn't choke in the SEC title game, they're playing Miami in the Rose Bowl for the Mythical National Title instead of a totally undeserving Nebraska.

The SEC reps for Outback, Cotton and Peach are chosen by the SEC Commissioner. Those three Bowls are guaranteed to get 'equally attractive' teams by SEC.
I guess the Commissioner allocates teams to those Bowls incorporating each Bowl's desired matchups.

gorski: pretty good, I think. 5-1 total counting two Pistons games, two softball games, a basketball game and a hockey game.

RE: Outback Bowl
When South Carolina was having their spurt of success under Holtz, the Outback Bowl was treated as Mecca. 'Cock fans went in droves buying up tickets and burial plots and everything they could get their hands on. They actually went two years in a row, winning both (I think.). So South Carolina fans have favorable memories of perceived greatness, and the Outback Bowl has favorable memories of hicks blowing in their savings on crazy shit in Tampa.
Florida fans may sell the thing out, but there won't be the same "this is f'n awesome" feeling that you'll get from the South Carolina contingent. That being said, I don't really expect South Carolina to get the Outback Bowl, but I've been surprised before. Just think what would happen if Georgia pulled the upset in the Dome? LSU to Outback? Auburn?

Gittle,
How is Florida "hot as a pistol right now"? They just beat a collapsing FSU team. Before that, they were taken to OT by Vandy at home and then beaten by South Carolina, at which point Gator fans were ready to disembowel Urban Meyer. You have an awfully short memory.
As for why the Outback would take USC, they're fan base is more excited for this bowl season than anyone else in the SEC. They will not only sell out RJS, but they'll come in droves, stay in hotels, and overrun the local Applebees. In other words, they'll spur the economy more, which makes the Outback Bowl happy. In terms of ratings, Michigan-USC and Michigan-Florida is a push.

Michael,
Good points, all. And I hope to God you are right. I also hope to God that nothing wacky happens and the SEC sends LSU or UGA our way.
We've had enough disappointment this year. We're STILL banged up. We're crying uncle, now give us a team we can beat...and wait until next year!
