dude, have you ever been to chick fil-a? I never got to go there until I moved to the south. Let me just say they make one mean chicken sandwich. The bowl should be the chick fil-a sandwich combo #1 bowl. It's that good. Chick fil-a is a breaston punt return.

Brian:
Just thought you might like to know, while Michigan did kinda get screwed going to the Alamo Bowl instead of the Outback, you may be pleased to know that the players definitely scored on the "bowl prize package" compared to Iowa. Bowls are limited to a value of $500 per player, but the Alamo Bowl is giving each player an XBOX 360 ($500 limit?? turn around and eBay it for $750!), along with a few other minor stuff.
Outback Bowl? A digital camcorder and a backpack. Yah. Fun. They can record their mouths hanging open when they find out what other bowls got (except the Hawaii Bowl and the Sugar Bowl).
I think the players won out, there.
(you can see a list of my silly rankings of the BCS prize bowl packages here.)

Since you were so kind not to ask:
I love the idea of a 16 team playoff. Easy as A,B,C……
a. Set up ten conferences with 12 teams each. Allow for 6 super conferences (BE, B10, P10, SEC, ACC, B12).
b. Break each super conference into 2 divisions.
c. The division champs from each super team conference will get an automatic spot (12 spots) in the playoff.
d. Pick one team (the highest rated team or conference champ) from the remaining 4 conferences ( MAC, C-USA, WAC, Whatever---these conferences can be set up by division or not).
e. Seed all 16 teams using a blue ribbon committee. Same conference teams cannot meet in the first round.
f. Play 1st & 2nd round game @ home of higher seeded team. 1st round is always played the first week in December.
g. 3rd round games kick off bowl season
h. Championship game 2 weeks after 3rd round
Split all proceeds equitably
Bowl games can still be held

Every time I read one of these "simple" proposals for a playoff system, I want to bludgeon myself to death with a popsicle stick.

Could be, could be... or it could be the RCMB or BuckeyePlanet or even the snarkier Michigan boards.

I think collegefootballnews.com's idea for a 16 team playoff is spot on. That way, the top teams get a functional bye against a crappy mid-major champ, making it important to still have a great season.

I agree with casual observer. Chick-fil-a is amazing.
If Cogliano's tryout camp performance carries over into the World Juniors, I'd be very surprised if he came back to Michigan next year.
He was the best forward there for Canada, and if he's the best forward for Canada at the tournament, the Oilers are going to do whatever it takes to get him signed.

just to preface, i love this blog. absolutely love it. it's no esdbs (who is?), but it's a hard second.
that said, i find it a little annoying that non-lloydalists (definitely not me) like to talk about lloyd's conservative-ity...er...-ness, then you ridicule him for talking about a 16-team playoff as "too, too much." i understand that it's hard to avoid jumping on someone you don't like for EVERYTHING that comes out of his mouth, but couldn't you at least try?
and as far as a playoff goes, here's what i don't understand about complaints about stretching out the season - why not shorten the regular season by a week (or two), pick however many playoff teams you like, then do "crossover"-type games with non-qualifliers? that way everyone still gets 11 or 12 games, and playoff games go on while the "regular" season is ending for the other teams?

Carr's comments in USA Today came across like a five year olds temper tantrum at not getting a bigger piece of cake. "Waah, waah, but we should be in a New Years Day game because WE ARE Meee-chi-gan".
The reason Meee-chi-gan is in the Alamo is the attitude of RBUAS "me and the nine other people who’ll be watching the Alamo Bowl are proud of you." That and the soft zone...
Carr Coaching plus great recruiting = soft Meee-chi-gan teams. I hope he stays on for the decade!!!

The thing is, if we'd had a kickass year, he wouldn't be advocating a playoff. It's not that he thinks now it's a great idea, really, it's that he sees it as a way that our semi-crappy season could have been parlayed into something better.
So fear not, Brian, he hasn't been replaced by the slimy alien overlords just yet. He probably doesn't believe in these playoff shenanigans in his Hart.

Colin - you're right. The second half of the game, Horton reverted to his old mad-bomber tendencies (with very few of the bombs connecting). We lost our composure and we outscored 29-9 over one second-half stretch. Ick.

It didn't help that Ammaker had no answer for UCLA's long-range game or Their double-teaming M's bigs down low. What a joke. With that being said, if M hits some threes they win the game.
Izzo would have Michigan in the elite 8 easily.

Well, maybe not easily, but if Izzo was the coach nobody would say that the talent on this team combined with great coaching couldn't get there.
Michigan has a great lineup this year. When Petway comes back, they will have 4 solid big guys, they have a very good backcourt and good wing players, and a solid bench. They should match up against ANYONE they play. They were the more talented team yesterday and if you switched the coaches Michigan would have won by at least 10. Ammaker needs to stop hanging out with Jim Hermann and Lloyd Carr.
He's really done great things with this program but if he can't solve fundamental things opponents throw at him, Michigan will not take the next step.

We have some talent, but I'm not sure we have more than UCLA. I was VERY impressed with their backcourt.
