Generally a good article on Michigan hockey, but if you're starting a list of Michigan goaltenders in order to emphasize consistency, doesn't it have to start with Shields? I mean, he's only the guy that set the NCAA career wins record that Turco broke. That's a disturbingly obvious omission.

Gravatar I think it's telling that Dion Harris and Lester Abram are both listed as having severly sprained ankles, yet Harris (who just sprained his) is listed as closer to returning on Wednesday than Abrams, who has missed basically the last 6 games.

Methinks Lester just doesn't want to play basketball that much anymore.

Gravatar steve szabo szounds like a posszibility for our coaching sztaff.

szweet!

Gravatar ok, that was pretty bad. i apologize. for punishment i will rewatch the alamo bowl tonight. please accept my humble apologies.

Gravatar You know, I was just thinking the same thing about Lester.
I confess to not knowing anything about his injury or how bad it is, but two things come to mind.

1) I have known some athletes who sit out a game over a hangnail, and others who play with broken bones. I don't know what Lester's pain tolerance is, but I now think hard about when he hurt his shoulder.

2) When he hurt it, doctors gave him two options: surgery or rest. Doctors said the second option had a little chance and that he likely needed surgery. He chose to rest, only to find it didn't work. Surgery in the fall cost him all of last season. Had he had it earlier as the doc recommended he might not have missed the season.

The fact that he put off what looked to be inevitable surgery makes me think that he doesn't deal with pain too well. Who knows? But it makes me wonder.

Gravatar What do you guys think of the Carty article? I have to agree with his assessment of Amaker, but don't necessarily think that Amaker is completely to blame.

The thing I like about Amaker is that his teams don't underachieve, but I also believe the teams rarely overachieve. He is what he is.

Gravatar I thought Carty's article was good too.

Gravatar I guess I don't know much about Dion's ankle, but I know Lester's was more of a high ankle sprain, which takes much longer to heal.

Mike Hart missed pretty much the entire football with a similiar injury and I doubt anyone would accuse him of not wanting to play football.

Gravatar Thanks for the shout, Brian. You make a good point about the Davis comments helping Michigan with Beverley (though I think his name is Patrick, right?). Like you said, this leaves Michigan against Virginia and St. Johns essentially, and it's hard to imagine either team has Michigan beat in any major area.

Gravatar If Beverly's main concern is to stay close to home, why is he even considering St. Johns and Virginia?

The obvious reason is Dave Leitao, but as good of a coach as Leitao is, he can't make the plane ride from New York to Chicago any shorter.

Gravatar its Patrick Beverly. Best blog on the net

Gravatar Thanks. I was wondering why it was such a pain to google his name. Fixed now.

Gravatar Davis' comments set off a minor sh*tstorm on ESPN today too. Apparently Cold Pizza anchor and UM alum Dana Jacobson interviewed Bob Knight this morning and tried to ask him about the Indiana situation. Knight yelled her down and pulled the plug on the phone interview. Classic Knight.

As for football, with a name like Steve Szabo, how can we go wrong? Szafety Blitzesz? Sztrong Szide Linebackersz? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Brian- Thanks for adding my link to the list.

Gravatar Confirmed by Doug Douche err Karsch on XYT around 6pm, new Michigan coaches are Szabo for LB and the Wisconsin DB coach Lee as coach for DBs. Also up on M-live. Since Lee turned Jim Leonard from scrawny walk-on to All-Big Ten, I'm eager to see what he can do with Yards After Mundy.

Must not have been in favor with Bielema?

Gravatar I would be very careful about questioning a player's "heart" or "desire to play basketball" based on injury history. I realize Lester Abram has been injury prone, but that does not mean that he does not want to play basketball. There are so many factors that can affect rate of recovery (i.e. exact injury location, scar tissue build up, proximity to major nerves, flexibility) that each injury and each person's recovery is different. Most of these guys live and play with more aches and pains day-to-day than we will have in our lives, so please don't question a player's heart (or manhood) just because they have an injury.
Paul

Gravatar So is Abram going to be able to play again this season? Anyone know?

I really hope he decides to play next year too. That would suck to lose him.
