I took intro geology (i.e., "Rocks for Jocks") back in the day. A number of athletes (including future NFL and NBA players, subincluding a well-loved fella with the initials CW) were also in the thrice-weekly, 9 am class. They never missed it, ever. And the prof. kept calling on the jocks to answer questions, which they did and well. I was fairly impressed (and, admittedly, surprised) by the athletic department's oversight.

The peering in the windows must be a new addition to the football program, as I had econ with Bennie Joppru (and some random other player) and they were there precisely 3 times - the first day, the midterm and the final.

Huh... I thought it was a fairly standard practice. I took Astro 111 at some point -- "orbiting rocks for jocks" -- that had four or five hulking dudes in varsity jackets who were there every week, much to my surprise.

As far as academic scandals go, this seems like a nonstarter regardless. I remember taking a grade yourself Comp Lit class in my time at UM (I can't really attest whether athletes were also in the class due to my own sparse attendance). Every university has more than its fair share of easy A's/borderline academic violations, and it doesn't really matter if people find out about those classes from the football team or the SAE house.

This Trevor Lewis thing is like something that would happen to Michigan basketball.
Michigan gets shot down by every forward recruit they go after for the 2006 season(except Lebler, I guess. Wahoo.).Then, incredily late in the recruiting season when it looks like all hope is lost, they pick up a kid from Utah of all places who turns out to be the best of the bunch. Four months before the season, he decides he's not coming either.
I guess all we can do now is wait a couple years and laugh at LA when right as Lewis becomes a viable pro prospect, he also becomes a free agent and goes to play for somebody else.

Regarding Mr. Adams, anyone who chooses to date someone whose nickname is "The Hotel" should probably have their guard up from the beginning, verdad?

As a Kings fan, Maize, I can assure you that the Kings will not lose Lewis to free agency. They will trade him after seeing him play 6 games in the bigs for an aging vet in the hopes of snagging the 8 slot in the playoffs. When Tambellini scores 30 this year, I will vomit.

Very rational response to the joke there, Eddie

Exactly why isn't it rational Mike? You are attributing one person's bad behavoir to an entire institution. I am simply pointing out that its really not a good joke because you can find jackasses that went to pretty much every school in the country. Don't get the panties in a bunch because an attempt at a joke gets called out.

Let's review:
* One-week class
* Safety net for athletes
* At Auburn University
The natural question: how bad did that paper have to get to score a B?!

The assigned book seems to have made a profound impression on Mr. Langenfeld. Professor Petree is quite an educator.

"I don't not want to play..."
Really?!?! Instead of, say, "I want to play" or "I really want to play" or "I don't want to be forced to watch my last bowl game from the sidelines?"

Steve Spurrie years ago when he was at Florida was asked about a fire that burned down an Auburn library. Here is Spurrier's response, "That's a shame. I heard some of those books weren't colored in yet.
