Gravatar Skrep for Heisman!

Gravatar I shit you not, it's "Idahoians". My boss is from there.

Gravatar Oregon is "Oregonians"

Montana is "Badass Mother Fucker's who will Fuck your wife, eat your dinner and make you say 'Thanks' before we leave-ians"

Gravatar Unpaid only if you don't attend o$u.

Gravatar By the way, I don't care about this at all. It's like bitching that Government is to bureaucratic and never gets anything done. Yeah, we know....and you know what else? It isn't going to change. We are all pee-ons in the game of life and there ain't shit we can do about it, so just keep on keepin' on.

Gravatar That post is one more example of why this blog is the best. Thanks Brian.

Gravatar New Post

I shit you not. It's about the donations.

Gravatar Brian, I'm not sure about the mertit of the stated that "There is ample evidence very [sic] Saturday in September that I-A is 20 programs too fat."

Contraction is fine, dont get me wrong. But when you consider the ramifications of conference re-alingment, I'm not sure what contraction would accomplish.

The NCAA would be forced to "re-construct" conferences. In doing so, there is a very real potential that all that would do is water down existing, somewhat pertinent mid majors or add unneccesary bulk to existing majors. In this era of unbalanced scheduling, that could foster an enviroment which further muddies the "who is the best" argument.

Moreover, I'm not sure that there would be any appreciable, positive impact on strength of scheduling. Major conference teams are, in increasing numbers, scheduling Championship Subdivision teams. Chances are, this trend is going continue in the future. If UF is going to play FIU, they will do so irregadless of FIU's divisional status.

The contraction argument has tangibility in professional sports because each team is given a crack at a set population of players via the draft, free-agency, etc. Players have far less control over what jersey they don in pro sports than in the NCAA. In fact, NCAA sports rely on each program selling their relative merits to attract top-flight talent. I highly doubt we ever see a paradigm shift as it relates to priemiere talent and "name schools" - that is, traditional powers will continue to rely on previous successes to attract desired talent (ND notwithstanding).

And, I'm not sure of the veracity of these APR rankings. Why did all top programs - and the vast majority of major conference programs, in general - escape the threat of sanctions. You claim that "It's commonplace for academically at-risk recruits to fall to the Troy Trojans (We're From Troy!) or Akron or whatever." But thats an idealized statement which belies the fact that we all know that primiere talent - regardless of academic merit - will end up at priemier programs. The only time programs pass on top-end talent is when serious chracter issues are present. And, hell, thast doesn't stop many programs, as evidenced by LSU, OSU, Alabama, etc, etc. It would seem that big time programs have a greater emphasis on on-the-field performance than, say, FIU. So, it would seem, they would have significantly less time to devote to academics. Call me a conspiaracy theorist, but is it it really that unreasonable to believe that the NCAA cuts certain schools breaks? I mean, they don't release any real due diligence and/or substansive methodology delineation, so I think some doubt should exist when dealing with these APR rankings.

Gravatar I spect 80-90% of them fellas from Montaney is a drankin and a dravin right now-ians.

Gravatar most of these crappy mid-majors have neither the money nor inclination to educate their real students, let alone their athletes

Gravatar bsb, that's downright stupid. please refrain from posting until you can/choose to construct an opinion that is at least mewhat based in reality.

Gravatar I think there should be relegation in the revenue sports in College athletics.

Gravatar Brian,

Never knew you had so many fans from Montana!

Gravatar ooh, someone's touchy. fau degree burning a hole in your pocket?

Gravatar I would rebut bsb's moronic comment, but I am but a feeble-minded simpleton with a degree from a school that plays mid-major athletics. Which has a lot to do with the value of the education you get from a school. Obviously.

Gravatar What a delightful surprise:

When I read the column, I thought " I can't wait to read 100s of comments posted by hypocritical and delusional comments by UM fans on the APR" then I click on Comments on there are less than twenty comments posted and almost none of them are discussing the APR -- which is how it should be since Michigan can add nothing constructive to any conversation on Academic Achievement and
College Football. Maybe, Brian, if the blog was on "How to Give the Appearance of Progress Long Enough to Exhaust Athletic Eligibility" then your readership would have been more engaged.
