a couple of thoughts.. anyone else think we'll see Newsome & Beaver on the field at the same time? i bet RR comes up with something for both of them. and also, i love that we are getting dual-threat QB's but w/ all the RBs and slot/split WR's we will be having out on the field is it even necessary to have a dual-threat QB? it seems like a pro-style QB could easily get the ball to whoever since they are so many damn athletes on the field. but anyways, i love that we got these guys.

Guys,
Please give me your thought on this. But in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Harry Potter movies, did anyone notice that the new Dumbledore sucks?
I mean, he is not really tough, kind of a bad actor, and not really compassionate towards Harry or Hermione.
This detracts from Rowlings portrayal of Albus in the books greatly.

UOS seems to be focusing on defense this year. I guess they can since everyone except Gholston returns on defense this year, plus they did really well with offense last year.
Is that possibly what RR is doing--focusing on offense this year and focusing more on recruiting defense next year? I personally doubt it because Michigan needs rebuilding at certain positions. It's quite a different situation from that of UOS.

As much as everybody likes to bag on Lloyd Carr and thinks RR will be 20x better then him, just think of some of the things that would have happened if Lloyd didn't retire.
-Arrington said he would have stayed.
-5* Dorian Bell and 4* Corey Brown would have committed to us. (Bell committed to OSU and we're still in Brown's top 5)
-Utah would be our MWC version of Appy State
Just some things to think of..

I like what Rich Rod has done so far with recruiting. Am pretty sick of the Detroit News media's circus-like attitude surrounding his legal affair with WVU. Angelique has been reassigned to covering Nascar. Fantasize about ass-clown Sharp getting locked into a weight room with Barwis (minus the garbage pails)
I hope the fans will be patient through next season--it could be a rough transition year. The kids RR is recruiting are buying into his system, it seems. Innovative/explosive offense coupled with playing in the nation's largest stadium trumps idiotic notions that kids only want to play where it is warm.
I have no doubt of our ability to compete well with OSU in the years to come for the Big Ten title. Praise be to Barwis--better, stronger, faster!!!

Solution: Touisisssiant and Tetris and Isiah commit
People complain that even though we have started recruiting we don't have a QB
Solution: Newsome and Beaver commit within days of each other
See where I'm going with this? Rich Rod, might, maybe, just a bit, know he needs lineman. It's a hunch.

A few quick point for the paranoid annoying UM fans out there. I've read a lot of comments on multiple sites and that's where this comes from.
-Stop bitching, just stop.
-You don't know who will be better, Newsome or Beaver. You don't have a fucking clue.
-Don't bitch about how forcier would be the Tebow and Newsome be Leak or any shit like that. There not comparable.
-Don't say "Beaver won't even sniff the field until his sr. year" how the fuck do you know?
-Stop bitching about any recruiting at this point. I'm pretty sure RR has more experience and expertise than your country bumpkin ass.
-Stop bitching about recruiting until signing day.
I don't mind speculation and comparison of one kid to another but don't make negative definitive statements that you have no evidence about in regards to 17 & 18 yr olds. It's annoying and creepy.

Dex: I'm not talking about an institutional directive from, let's say OHSAA or MHSAA. I'm just saying that HS football in Ohio exceeds the popularity of any other sport and more kids play it. Subsequently, more schools spend more money on their programs which, unsurprisingly, produces more and better polished prospets.

reasons why michgan highschool football isnt as good as it could be..
a shorter offseason period and actuall season which means less time playing and practicing football...
coaching pay is not to par with ohio and other places....
school systems empahsis football more in the "football" states, offering advanced pe football, and football specific classes to help develop football players,
typically football is seen as a "way out" for many rural kids in the south and in rural areas of penn and ohio, and that tradition continues...
High school football has become big buisness over the years in towns accross the south (and yes southern ohio is the south) and kids grow up dreaming about playing for their local highschools in some places more so then playing in college...

I would agree with your assessment. For example, in Cincinnati, we have two major private schools which actively recruit and one public school which recruits locally as well. A couple years ago, the big time public school - Colerain - actually rented a helicopter to hover above the field so as to dry it off.

Not sure if you kidding about "rasslin" but the best HS F-ball players in OH usually "rassle" in the off season (esp OL & DL guys) Rasslin programs are the most intense conditioning of all HS programs and if the kids stay in shape in summer they come into fall ready to rock. If coach doesn't have to work on conditioning in the fall, they can start on playbook right away.

Can you write a post explaining the BCS decision to not go with a tournament format? It seems like people all over the country are upset with the current, almost-completely arbitrary method of determining who goes to the national championship game. What are the merits of the current format that cause such inertia in the BCS officials?

Theseats.com actually provides a great recap of the 2007 Rose Bowl:
The 2008 Rose Bowl was a great game as both teams competed with hard work and determination. The Rose Bowl was held at Pasadena, California that featured two magnificent teams composed of the University of Southern California Trojans and University of Michigan’s Wolverines. The Michigan Wolverines had a hard time during the 2007 Rose Bowl. The University of Southern California Trojans used a variety of offenses, basically on first down, to put Michigan Wolverines in second-and-long and third-and-long situations. In addition to this, the offenses also caused two big second half turnovers.
The Rose Bowl of 2007 was full of excitement as players like Brian Cushing, Dwayne Jarrett as well as John Booty showed outstanding performances. The Rose Bowl tickets also had successful record of sales as the Rose Bowl fans and supporters waited for the grand event. One of the Rose Bowl event highlights was Dwayne Jarrett’s performance as he out jumped a pair of Michigan Wolverines defenders for a 29-yard gain midway through the fourth quarter. Furthermore, after a few plays, John Booty threw his fourth touchdown pass to Steve Smith, who finished with seven catches for 108 yards. The thrilling Rose Bowl made the University of Southern California Trojans took control during the early third quarter when, after three straight handoffs to Mike Hart, the Michigan Wolverines tried a screen pass that Chad Henne threw into a crowd, only to see it land in the hands of Lawrence Jackson. The previous season of the Rose Bowl ended with a 32-18 victory of the University of Southern California Trojans over the Michigan Wolverines.
Though the University of Southern California Trojans was quite frustrated because they fail to pursue their third straight BCS title game due to an uncharacteristically flat effort against the University of California, Los Angeles; the Rose Bowl of 2007 gave them much inspiration to go further and strive for more. Both teams of the University of Southern California Trojans as well as the Michigan Wolverines had an excellent time of spending it as a qualifying team in the Rose Bowl event.
The Rose Bowl was indeed one of the great events in the history of college football. The Rose Bowl tickets will surely continue to sell out as college football team fans eagerly wait for the much celebrated event.
The Rose Bowl tickets will provide a great sports viewing experience and a quality entertainment for young and old alike. The next season of Rose Bowl will give you another fun, exciting, entertaining, outstanding and excellent game. Grab some Rose Bowl tickets today and don’t miss the great event of Rose Bowl.
The Rose Bowl is called the "Grandaddy" of all the Bowl games. It is perhaps the most anticipated college football game ever.

There was no celebrating a traditional matchup in the Rose Bowl — at least by the participants. Those associated with the game are overjoyed. Southern California and Michigan will meet New Year‘s Day in the granddaddy of ‘em all, with each playing in the game for the third time in four years.
"I have to say that along the way, we had some doubts as to whether we were going to be able to achieve that. We‘re very excited about having these good friends back in the game," Dorger said, pointing out that USC and Michigan ranked 1-2 in Rose Bowl appearances.
USC and Michigan had their chances. The Trojans (10-2) entered the weekend with the inside track, but a 13-9 loss to crosstown rival UCLA on Saturday knocked them out.
In the Associated Press poll, which is not used in the BCS standings, Florida also passed Michigan, moving into second but held just a three-point advantage. USC fell from second to eighth. The Wolverines were third and the Trojans fifth in the BCS standings.
"I don‘t know exactly what the voters were thinking. You‘d have to ask them."
But, he added, there‘s no way he could feel anything negative about playing in the Rose Bowl, even if he didn‘t agree with the way it came about.
USC will oppose Michigan in the Rose Bowl for the eighth time. The Trojans have a 5-2 record against the Wolverines in the game including a 28-14 triumph three years ago, when they were bypassed for the BCS title game but won a piece of the national championship.
Carr said his players were OK, but disappointed, when he gave them the news.
Trojans coach Pete Carroll has said from the time he became USC‘s coach following the 2000 season that the team‘s No. 1 goal every year is to win the Pac-10 title and play in the Rose Bowl.
Carroll said he understood how Carr felt since USC was bypassed for the national championship game three years ago despite being ranked No. 1 in the human polls.
The BCS system has been tweaked since that time.
"I know it‘s challenging to have to live with the results of it," Carroll said. "I admire his respect for this game and this matchup.
"They‘re loaded, they‘ve had a great season. They came up a couple points short of winning their conference championship."
USC has played in 30 previous Rose Bowl games, going 21-9, while Michigan has played in 19, going 8-11. The Wolverines beat Stanford 49-0 on Jan. 1, 1902 in the first Rose Bowl.
The Rose Bowl contracted with the Big Ten and Pac-10 before the 1947 game. Representatives of those conferences played from that time until the 2002 game, when Miami beat Nebraska to win the national championship.

actually i believe at the end of the year usually scout ends up with a lot more 5 stars than rivals...rivals is actually pretty selective w/ their 5-stars and other higher rankings.
