Chengelis may be connected, but that doesn't mean that she hasn't been wrong about some stuff recently.
Considering all the ridiculous and unsubstantiated rumors people were assuring us were fact during the coaching search, I'd be a little more cautious than Brian here.

OT: According to Lacy at the Detroit News, Martell Webb might play basketball this winter. There's also a slim chance that Carson Butler would play. This would seem to put to rest the strange rumor that Beilein wouldn't let football players on the team.

Until he gone for sure, let's give Mallett some love. Right now he's our projected starting QB for next year. I'd love to see RR take this 5-star recruit and develop him to (and beyond) his potential.
If/when he announces he's outa here, then we can stone him out of town full force. Till then, he's one of us and we should make sure he knows we love him, warts and all.

Coach Rod can use Mallett, I'm really surprised Mallett doesn't see that. Henne ran a virtual and sometimes actual spread last week. Rod only ran run heavy spreads at WVU because that fit the personnel he had there. Mallett is freaking out unnecessarily IMO.
Of course, Mallett out might pave the way for Pryor in, so we may not lose too much overall. I'd rather Mallett stay and see what Pryor does, than risk ending up with neither.

I posted yesterday, but Ryan hangs out at my house ALL the time because he's dating my roommate. He whines about how he hates the coaches and how they make him run a mile in practice. He's leaving for sure. He's decided. I am not connected anywhere else, but I know this because I see him every day.

@ Dix
all this public flagellation about Mallett has the danger of creating a self-fulfilling prophecy for the kid. it's like we're greasing the skids for his fast ride outa town. nobody knows anything for sure yet, and we're already packing his frigging bags for him.
it also creates doubts about the program in general for other 5-star guys who might be considering us.

Regardless, the fact is, I'm wasn't that happy with Mallett. He seemed a little too immature (not athletically) and it seems to be part of his personality. I don't remember ever getting that impression from Henne or Hart in their freshman year. I'm ok with Mallett making whatever decision is best for him, but I would have really hated to lose McGuffie and he hasn't even played a single down.

Henne is stoic. Hart came off plenty playful from the start, but he was immediately cast into the starting role and had to grow up quick. It was Henne and Hart as work horses from the beginning. It was their team, basically, from the beginning. Mallett's quote that it's Chad's team shows that the responsibility was never squarely on him like it was for the other two. Comparing the Mallett to them is probably not the best logic.

Again, not a Mallett fan here, but the math doesn't add up. I hope his whiny ass leaves, but ain't gonna happen. IF Rodriguez wants him, he will persuade him. You don't leave a starting job at Michigan to sit a year elsewhere as a backup. He has enough a brain to see what we all see: that RR + Mallett would look like the Cap One Bowl on amphetamines (if the hillbilly can actually hit his targets).

Old staff:
Offense--Mike Debord (coordinator), Andy Moeller (OL), Scot Loeffler (QB), Fred Jackson (RB), Erik Campbell (WR)
Defense--Ron English (coordinator), Steve Stripling (DL), Steve Szabo (LB), Vance Bedford (DB).
New staff:
Offense--Calvin Magee (coordinator), Greg Frey (OL), ? (QB), Fred Jackson (RB), ? (WR)
Defense--???

Just my opinion, but . . .
I suspect RR's warm public acceptance of Mallett is substantially cooler behind the scenes. Brian's comment about RR exploring the JUCO ranks solidifies my wildly speculative and not-fact-based opinion. Whether express or not, I think the understanding between Mallett and RR is that Mallett is UM's guy only until RR can find someone that can run the option part of the spread 'n' shred. And given that, RR probably doesn't care too much about whether Mallett stays or goes. As a temporary starter, Threet can handle the job. And RR probably wouldn't mind the scholarship Mallett would free up.
Otherwise, Meeechigan Dan is right on. It would be foolish to leave absent something like my wild guess.

Meh. Maybe. I'm not ready to throw the guy under the bus, though. He got some (big) game experience as a true freshman for Michigan, is undefeated as a starter, and he gets to say he bitch-slapped Jimmeh Clausen in what will likely be their only head-to-head match-up if he does transfer out.
He's got to do what he think is best for him. It was that same line of thinking that brought RichRod to us, so I can't be intellectually honest and say that RichRod was cool for coming to us but Ryan's a dick for leaving. I can't wish him ill...but admittedly I might think differently if Terrelle Pryor ends up somewhere else.

No way Loeffler stays at Michigan to be QB coach when he is interviewing to be OC at other schools. I love Lefty but he has greener pastures ahead of him. If this whole RR thing doesn't work out (of course I hope it does), perhaps some day we'll welcome him back as OC for head coach Ron English.

By the way, David Cone was third on the depth chart all year long. They only put Sheridan in ahead of Cone against Minnesota because Sheridan's a local kid from Saline.
The depth chart all year long (except for Henne's injury, obviously) was:
1. Henne
2. Mallett
3. Cone
4. Sheridan

Many athletes aren't listed in the directory, probably because they'd get a ton of annoying e-mails.
If I were an athlete, I would probably cancel my Facebook, too, especially if there was a lot of speculation about whether I was going to transfer or not. That would be a pain in the ass to sift through all those e-mails and comments.

Well, I looked at some not-yet-graduated football players, and they are in the directory. Do you think MM gets more or fewer messages?
Facebook can be locked down, so that only "friends" can send messages, etc. Most of the athletes have sensibly restricted Facebook. Completely deleting it says something else, at least to me.

I've looked for football players before (not to e-mail them; just out of curiosity) and I haven't found several. I'm sure it depends on the player.
And Mallett could just as easily switch his Facebook to another school once he went there. Deleting your Facebook doesn't mean anything other than you're sick of Facebook.

okay, I talked to a few people at UM and here is the deal. Unlike coaching searches where admin staff is involved in the logistics (and hence stuff leaks out) RM's decision is personal and since it involves a students status very properly guarded by the univ (they are req by law to do so for any student not just the famous ones). So my advice to everyone is unless you hear from RM himself (or his parents) dont believe any rumours.

Well, if mallett shows up to class this monday, that is a good sign he'll be here until spring practice. If Pryor signs it is a tough call for the kid. The smart route would be to transfer to a school that needs a QB.
I wouldn't be to hard on the guy. I can remember standing out at a bus stop my first year in January freezing my ass off thinking I must have had rocks in my head for ever leaving SoCal for Michigan. Some people, believe it or not, are not big fans of cold weather and overcast days. Hard to believe.
threet was the #12 QB in the country two years ago. He should be able to do well, and would expect him to do well. He played at Adrian, so someone out there should have seen him. They used to play AA Pioneer and Huron every year.
