Gravatar Hart gets to prove the doubters wrong now; isn't this right where he wants to be?

Gravatar third

Gravatar Hart was a "steal" for Indy in the 6th.

Gravatar fizith

Gravatar Belichick can go cheat some more, honestly.

Gravatar LOL Bike Hart went for a bike ride when frustrated with the draft. He hasnt rode that much since faking injuries during the season when his team needs him most - what a joke...

Colts make U-M's Hart sixth-round pick
Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

For Mike Hart, Michigan's career leading rusher, the wait Sunday became a bit tedious.

He grew so tired of waiting for the phone call that would determine his NFL future, he left his home in Syracuse, N.Y., and went for a bike ride with his niece.

His wait eventually ended with a call from the Colts, who took Hart late in the sixth round, during the second day of the NFL draft.

"When I kept slipping and slipping it's got me a little fired up," Hart said during a conference call. "I'm ready to go. I'm back like it's my freshman year. It brought me back down to earth. Now I have to go in there and compete and try to prove myself again."

Gravatar Hart is a bad mo, and is coming to dominate.

Any news on Forcier or Beaver? Any news on how the hell OSU is doing so good with recruiting, or are they still cheating?

Gravatar We have extended our boarder into PA - Long live Joe PA !!!

Gravatar Fear The Vest's compulsive masturbation problem has had the effect on his memory that professional counselors warn about; he posted the same comment on the previous thread. The only question I have is whether he's laminated the photo of Tressel he holds while yanking it.

Gravatar the Vest is a cheater and he knows it. Pryor needs to buy me a new pair a shoes!!

Gravatar Leave me alone - Lloyd said we have "good people" here in Ohio. I am one of them.

Gravatar Who is the other one?

Gravatar @Don

LMAO

Gravatar Obviously the Vest. That's who Lloyd is recommending Michigan transfers to.

Gravatar There should be a sign on here that says:

"Don't Feed the Trolls"

Gravatar you should know that Mundy is only there for special teams, if he even makes the team. not that there wasn't a better option to draft. just saying..

Gravatar Dear Brian:

Melvin Fellows opened up his recruitment voluntarily when HE received an offer from OSU and USC. Melvin was under the impression that he sucked and that he better accept the first thing coming which might explain why as a junior, he accepted the Illini offer in DECEMBER. Stop trying to compare apples and oranges, gerbils and hamsters, Shia and Sunni, or Lloyd family values and Richfraud family values.
Yet, no post explaining why RRod offered a job to a guy his assistant coach termed a "racist".

Gravatar tressels mom has one arm and she swims in a circle

Gravatar I knew it would be a mistake for Arrington to go (and said so frequently back in December). As good as I thought he could be, I just felt that NFL scouts weren't going to take a leap of faith and throw lots of money at a guy who hadn't done much in college. It just wasn't going to happen.

It would've been nice to have Arrington become a featured part of RichRod's ninja offense, but for some reason (ego?) Arrington wanted to take a flying leap...into the 7th round.

Gravatar I seem to recall Woods having a very good Rose Bowl effort in the loss to Texas. Am I remembering that right?
Yes, Carr had his fair share of head scratching personnel choices. And get ready to lament "why the FUCK wasn't Johnny Thompson starting over Graham the last 2 years!!!!"

Bo made some horrendous personnel choices, too. Both him Carr and would play/bench guys out of priciple, results be damned.
Carr's decision to stick with a one-armed Henne against Ohio State was the epitome of his reasoning. I have a real problem with that sort of thinking.
Job #1 should always be to win the game albeit fair and square. Play the kid who gives you the best chance to win. Carr felt Henne "deserved" to play regardless of his effectiveness.
Carr's priority should be to the team and the school to do everything in his power help get the WIN. Period.

Gravatar So you're saying that Tressel offered Fellows after he had committed to Illinois? How does that not make Brian's point?

Gravatar Guys, I am transferring to Bucknuts because of a decline in family values. Fuck y'all bitches.

Gravatar He obviously doesn't understand Brian's point, so he just made it for him.

And as for Hart, talk about stumbling into a great situation. He get passed over x5 by every NFL team and has to be fearing the worst. Then, he looks up and sees he has been picked by one of the 3 best teams in the NFL and has to out-perform Kenton Keith, Justise Hairston, Luke Lawton and Clifton Dawson for the #2 spot on the RB depth chart behind Joseph Adai. He's going to get significant playing time in Week 1 of the upcoming NFL season. Mark my words.

Gravatar Thanks for helping me make my point, FearTheVest. The last time he was expected to be destroyed but had a supporting cast at full strength, he rushed for 129 and 2 TDs at the Citrus Bowl. He's fired up and ready to work his ass off. Good for him.

Also, Jamar Adams has signed with the Seahawks.

Gravatar Son of Jorel wrote:

Uh, so it's NOT ok to "recruit" a player that's already committed to another Big 10 school, but it's apparently ok to offer a scholarship to a player who has already committed to another Big 10 school? How does that make sense? I'm getting confused about what exactly a "gentleman" is supposed to do here.

Please stop. There is no "gentlemen's agreement". There never was one. Tiller made it up because he was pissed about losing a recruit to Michigan on the last day. I don't understand why an OSU fan would want to maintain a charade created by the fucking Purdue coach.

Pretending that there is an agreement (while the coaches themselves know better) just makes you look foolish, all so you can do...what, exactly? Criticize Michigan for a lack of recruiting "ethics" or something? Heh. RichRod and Michigan fans don't care, because RichRod and Michigan fans know that this "gentleman's agreement" is pure fiction. Stop.

Gravatar Ok, seriously. That whole situation with Delany and his Pac-10 counterpart opposing playoffs seems like part of a problem that comes with two conferences that have traditions and academically strong universities with possibly wealthier graduates and large fan bases.

The Rose Bowl's tradition is played up quite a bit. I am one for tradition and all, but the heads of the Big 10 and Pac-10 use that excuse of preserving tradition in order to keep the revenues coming in. The B10-P10 match-up was only institutionalized in the 40s. It has already cost the Big 10 one MNC (1994). Correct me if this is not quite the case, but that's what it seems like to me.

Gravatar cfaller, i think it's pretty clear that Tressel offered a s'ship w/o recruiiting the kid:

[scene: Kid's house, phone rings, kid answers phone]

Kid: Hello?

Vest: Hello, son... coach tressel here. i'm not calling to recruit you, i just wanted to let you know we're offering a s'ship.

Kid: Huh?

Vest: we're not recruiting you to play at osu, but you have received an s'ship to play football here, how's that sound?

Kid: OK, so i have a s'ship offer... to osu?

Vest: yep

Kid: but you're not recruiting me?

Vest: nope.

Kid: sign me up coach!

Gravatar It's not just that, but Joe Tiller is a grumpy, Michigan-hating old man. I never took his comments seriously, but now I am just enjoying watching his stupid argument get fall apart.

Gravatar how would a player involuntarily reopen his recruiting?

Gravatar i am cha cho. i love the new UM and imo we're going to dominate all aspects of cfb as long as we get a dominate defense. whoo!!

Gravatar Playing Devil's Advocate here: I don't understand the hindsight with regard to Arrington and Manningham. Both were veterans who had played alot in college and had suffered injuries already. I believe Manningham has had tow "knee scopes" and Arrington broke an ankle so badly that he still has a metal plate in his leg holding it together.

Now, both would be seniors in an offense that will be questionable at best due to new QB's not geared to actually PLAY that offense, and an offensive line that at this point looks like it could be horrible. And no proven running back to pose a threat that way either. Manningham and Arrington would probably be asked to block a hell of alot more than they ever have in this scheme this year, so I can't see where their numbers would improve at all, and in fact would probably be alot worse.

I think both of them made the right decision, although for various reasons they slipped in the draft. I really can't see where it would have benefitted them to come back to Michigan for one more season.

Gravatar same situation you see in the everyday business world. young guy on the way up, full of energy and fresh ideas. old cronies bitch and moan. the vest eats bran flakes for breakfast.

Gravatar how would a player involuntarily reopen his recruiting?

Ans: he was recruita-raped.

Gravatar what are they saying about beaver and who he is considering? i really like to say "what are they saying about beaver"

Gravatar Hart has a great situation. He was the best pass blocking rb ever at Michigan and he will make a comfortable living protecting Peyton Manning on 3rd and long situations.

Gravatar Hey, anybody have a copy of "duelling banjos" handy?

Gravatar i agree wit ya fred

Gravatar For Beaver, it has to be Michigan or Texas Tech. He was ready to committ to TT before the UM offer came, so I wouldn't think that his thoughts on TT have changed.
Right now it seems to be a game of Bluff between Forcier and Beaver. I'm sure neither will committ without the reassurance that that will be the edn of QB recruiting for '09.

Gravatar Andy Moeller: college LB with no experience coaching OL prior to 2002.
Greg Frey: starting OL for FSU when they won a national title and went something crazy like 42-5 in his 4 years there. Coached only OL for the last 7 years prior to coming to Michigan.
Gee, will there be an improvent in our OL's play?
Lemme take a wild guess....

p.s. I'm a Colts fan. And yes, God loves Mike Hart. What a perfect opportunity for him! He is going to get a lot of good PT for a 1st-class organization and I am stoked about it.

Gravatar If I might be allowed to specualte further (I'll do it even if I'm not allowed to), I think RR and Co prefer Tate Forcier to The Beave, and are kind of patiently waiting to see what he do. The coaches are visiting both players this week, IIRC. They are probably going to apply some pressure on Forcier or at least get a feel. According to Scout, it's "first come, first served" with these two.

Gravatar Re: Morrelli

"acutely undercoached and unprepared for the job of being a professional QB."

I would have used the word "criminally" in place of "acutely" and added the word "laughably" in front of the word "unprepared", but otherwise ... yeah.

Gravatar its gonna get fast and furious here pretty soon. spots will filling up quickly. newsome will open the floodgates!

Gravatar Scalz/Chitown: I posted my response in the previous thread, FYI.

Gravatar Caup:

Couldn't agree more on the coaching thing. Moeller was something I never understood. Yes, Frey (and the rest of the staff) should be at least a 84% upgrade, but the OL recruiting has been poor before this 2008 class, they are thin (numbers wise), and have little experience.

Gravatar haha saw this on a tcu board while stalking beaver.

"I was just about to make a decision here for TCU, but now I don't know. I'm just waiting right now until after my spring ball," said Beaver. "TCU was one of my top schools, but now that Michigan has offered that made me want to change my mind. Michigan has a big opportunity for me to play early. Michigan is a huge school so it's pretty even."

Dear Shavodrick,

Its COLD as HELLLLL in Michigan and its a long ways from Wichita Falls. Don't get wrapped up in all the hype. The new TCU offense will be a mirror image of Michigan's and you WILL get playing time here instantly. Do the coaches in Ann Arbor even know how to get to Wichita Falls? No they have no idea. They offered just to offer. Don't let them cloud your vision of being a superstar here at TCU. *See University of Texas if you want an example of players told one thing and receive another. Transferring after finding out too late would really suck and sitting out a year would suck too. Plus, your mom can watch you EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND here in Fort Worth.

Your future biggest fan,

Zammers

Gravatar honestly i am always stalking beaver

Gravatar Now if Zammers would toss in a blow job now and then. Beaver might think about it.

Gravatar @barking

haha

Gravatar @barking sphincter

I'm not questioning Manningham's decision to go pro, even though I wanted him to stay. I understood what Mario was thinking, but Arrington? C'mon.

He had only one year in the starting lineup (Breaston and Manningham were the starters in 2006), and even then he was the #2 guy. As such, his stats were underwhelming, to say the least. What exactly was his pitch going to be to NFL scouts? What exactly was he going to say or do that was going to convince these entities to throw millions of dollars at him? As we see now in hindsight, he didn't have a pitch for them, and he didn't make the sale.

Granted, his role and his stats would have been uncertain with a new coach and a new QB. But I'm not sure how that's so clearly worse than the 7th round (with no bonus and no job security the following year).

I suppose it would be better to get paid to have an uncertain role in a new offense with a new QB (as he now has in the NFL), but I believe his compensation would have been better had he waited. Taking a chance at being the featured WR in a new offense (and realizing his potential) might have paid off handsomely in next year's draft. Scouts and teams like players with versatility and an aptitude for learning new systems.

What always made me shake my head about Arrington's decision was my belief that he wasn't going to go very high, if at all. I still believe working for one more season as the #1 WR at Michigan would have made him a higher draft pick next year.

Gravatar Newsome is going to help immensely in regards to getting McNeal and hopefully that giant OL from Trotwood-Madison. I know the OL isn't in as badshape as the DL in terms of recruits, but last years bunch, aside from O'Neill, was underwhelming.

Gravatar If I'm Arrington, you said it best: I guess I can get PAID now. If he's good enough, he'll make the league. One year of standing around looking confused because the offense just ran another bubble screen won;t help him. If he can make the team this year, he is pretty much guaranteed a million bucks. At this point, after having been in college for four years, and having a metal plate in my leg, I'll take some caysh.

Gravatar If you put Adrian Arrington into a Minnesota uniform, everyone on earth would agree he is incredibly insane to leave early and has little to no future in the NFL. Because he wore the winged helmet, this board has convinced themselves he is going to be a contributor.

AA, as a 7th round draft pick, has one training camp to prove he is worth a spot. If he manages to make the team this year, he has to improve SIGNIFICANTLY upon his college talents in order to stay. NFL teams don't draft WRs in the 7th round to babysit them - if he doesn't get the program right away, run better routes, and perform like the Cap1 Bowl every single day at practice, he's not making the team, let alone being anything resembling a contributor. I'm sorry, but I said it when he did and I will keep saying it forever, he isn't ready for the NFL. He's playing in the Arena League within 3 years.

Gravatar cfaller, AA hated michigan and didn't like carr. my buddy on the team said he made the decision to leave practically before the season even started and with a new regime change, it was no-brainer for him to leave.

Gravatar Besides, Arrington can get Barwissed this off season and be in great shape in time for training camp.

Gravatar dex, i respect your opinion but I bet AA will be better than MM. and i bet everyone disagrees with me.

Gravatar Arrington is an idiot. Just look at his initials ...AA.

Gravatar I really think, also, that Manningham and Arrington's off field shenanigans wouldn't have gone over well. They would have been in every other players position: to have to re earn their starting spot. Shit, man, I couldn't give a sweet merciful fuck if they make the pros. They would probably gotten in the way in Ann Arbor. Get 'em the hell out of there and let RR bring more of his guys in. That many more schollies to give out.

Gravatar I don't even really disagree with you beantown, because I'm not sold on Mario at all in the NFL. People can go on and on about his "double move" as long as they want but he's not strong enough to get off the line in the NFL and even have a chance to burn people. I do think AA's game, in theory, translates better to the NFL but he isn't ready right now.

Gravatar wasup

Gravatar yeah, i loved it when MM would burn shitty ND DBs but i just don't see him doing the same in the league.

Gravatar The thing is, if you go back through the past couple drafts and look at WRs taken in the 7th round, almost universally they are cut before the season and re-signed to the practice squad. If they can return kicks, they have a better chance at making the big club.

Obviously, the glaring, neon exception to this is Marques Colston.

Gravatar dex, i respect your opinion but I bet AA will be better than MM. and i bet everyone disagrees with me.

not me. i always thought MM was a one trick pony w/ the deadly double move. he can't go over the middle & he's not big enough to get by press man in the league. good speed, not great. good hands, not great.

the question about AA is, what did the league's pre-assesment tell him? did it say 2nd, 3rd rnd, pending the combine, wonderlick, etc? or did it say 5th-7th?

Gravatar they were making comparisons of AA to Colston yesterday.. we'll see how that works out.

Gravatar the lions picked a half-samoan, which is kind of cool.

Gravatar i don't understand the underrating of AA. i know 1 game doesn't make your draft status but in the florida game he showed how capable he is when given looks. the guy is athletic as hell and can catch almost anything.

Gravatar Well, I'm not sure AA isn't going to eventually be better than Mario in the NFL. Quite frankly, I'm not sure either one is going to make it. While I didn't watch much of the draft, I did tune in somewhere in the middle of the 2nd round to hear Ron Jaworski absolutely lambast the entire receiving class for "not being ready" for the NFL (e.g. none of them can consistently get off the LOS). That doesn't bode well for either one of them.

It's possible that Arrington just wanted out of Michigan, and was in no mood to re-earn his starting position. But I have no sympathy for guys like that. If you're a good worker and you have some talent, then "re-earning" your starting position should be no big fucking deal. Guys who fear/loathe re-earning their place on the team are simply guys that fear/loathe challenges.

Maybe Arrington is one of those guys, and maybe he isn't. But regardless, the less of those types of guys on the Michigan squad, the better.

Gravatar I'd like to see Slocum's Wunderlic, if he takes it.

Q: If rope costs .60 a foot, how much would 12 feet cost?

A: Fuck rope, I got a fuck lion now come fuck wit me. rope aint half as real as my momcs carla. Dat bitch the realest. Im a be a player 4 life.

Gravatar "Fearthevest"....

This is what happens when we provide internet access to federal prison inmates.

Gravatar I fail to see how Arrington's stats were underwhelming. As the second option on a run-heavy team, he had 67 catches for 880 yards and 8 TD's.

DeSean Jackson does have return skills that Arrington doesn't, but Jackson was considered a 1st round talent by many...and his numbers were worse in every category (65 rec., 750 yds., 6 TD's).

Gravatar @beantownblue

Uh, the Florida secondary wasn't very good or very experienced this year. I'm not sure how much potential we're supposed to perceive from a talented guy burning freshmen and sophomores who haven't panned out (yet).

Gravatar "The thing is, if you go back through the past couple drafts and look at WRs taken in the 7th round, almost universally they are cut before the season and re-signed to the practice squad. If they can return kicks, they have a better chance at making the big club.

I think Marcus Monk is going to be another exception. The Bears were so desperate for WRs they signed the rotting corpse of Marty Booker and the pile of crap that is Brandon Lloyd, so he should have the opportunity to make the team and make an impact. Monk is 6'4", runs a sub-4.5, and even accomplished the unthinkable task of making Arkansas QBs look occasionally competent. Injury issues this year dropped him, he probably was a mid-round pick if he came out after his junior year. If he's healthy, I don't think there's any way he doesn't make the team, and I can see him playing regularly as a red zone weapon.

Gravatar one-handed grabs on the run behind any DB are never easy

Gravatar To the bonehead who said that Bo and Lloyd's only obligation is to win period and play the best players is obviously misguided and never played for a successful team. So you play the best players regardless if they broke rules, didn't attend class, didn't put out the effort etc, etc, etc. There is a team that does that currently... they are called the Detroit Lions. Players need to know that everyone needs to follow rules or they won't be playing. RR has already laid down that mantra. You may be a good football player, but if you are not in shape and you haven't put the work in off the field, you won't be seen on the field no matter who you are.

Gravatar @Magnus

I think you're confusing the words "underwhelming" with "bad." They don't mean the same thing.

When I use the word underwhelming, I mean it from the perspective of an NFL scout or GM who is looking to fill a void on the roster and is looking for a good ROI on millions of dollars that will be thrown at college kids who haven't played a single fucking down in the NFL. They want some sort of assurance that their money isn't going to be wasted. Yes, the draft is a crapshoot, but that doesn't mean the GMs should wantonly gamble on unproven commodities- in fact, it often compels the opposite approach. They are going to spend their high picks on personnel that have shown themselves to be "ready" over a long period of time, preferably several seasons of college ball.

And you're going to tell me that one year in the starting lineup for 800+ yards is worth investing a couple million into him with a second or third round pick? No, no, no. There are a dozen guys with similar stats that could probably either offer more (through special teams play or better physical potential) or could be obtained for much, much less.

Apparently Arrington fits into the latter. When it came time to show the NFL why he was worth a high draft pick, his stats were "underwhelming." Not "bad," mind you, but just "not good enough."

Gravatar Aaaahhhhhh.....butt plugs are awesome.

Gravatar There are a dozen guys with similar stats that could probably either offer more (through special teams play or better physical potential) or could be obtained for much, much less.

This. A million times, this.

If you aren't a star, and AA is not a star worthy of star treatment in the NFL, you need something else.

Arrington isn't particularly great at anything. He isn't big, he isn't blazing fast, he's pretty solid at everything, but nothing otherwordly. On top of that, he doesn't return kicks. I'm guessing he isn't going to be real fantastic at playing special teams in general. He doesn't make a strong case for one of the 53 roster spots.

Gravatar She was underwhelmed, if that's a word
I know it's not 'cause I looked it up
It's one of those skills I learned in my schoo-oo-ool

Gravatar "He isn't big, he isn't blazing fast, he's pretty solid at everything, but nothing otherwordly. On top of that, he doesn't return kicks."

This describes many of the receivers drafted in the middle rounds.

Arrington fell because of off-field incidents. That's it. New Orleans' GM even said so.

Gravatar I never said character didn't play in to his fall.

Gravatar Is there any doubt that Jamison, Graham and Taylor will all be drafted by the Patriots next year? I'm giddy about that. Their front seven will be littered with Wolverines.

And I love Manningham's situation in NY. He has a chance to start out as a slot receiver, and I expect him to be the perfect compliment to Burress in a year or two. Learning from Toomer will help a lot. Mario is a very, very good receiver - he seperates from defenders very well downfield, and you can't downplay how dangerous his double move is. If Henne's brah tattoo didn't hinder his deep ball so much, Mario would have been even more productive.

Speaking of Henne, I will stalk his ever move down in South Florida. Go Blue, brah.

Gravatar @ cfaller96

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. As the second receiver in a run-heavy offense, I don't see how 67 catches, 880 yards, and 8 touchdowns is underwhelming. It's pretty f-ing good, actually.

Gravatar I know, dex. I didn't mean to imply that was part of your argument. I was just tossing it out there.

Gravatar Magnus,

Right. His prehistoric 40 time and streaky production at Michigan had nothing to do with it.

Convicted criminals were going 3-4 rounds before the guy. There's more to it than just off-field incidents.

Gravatar the nfl sucks. i hope it gets destroyed by a steroids investigation the same way baseball has.

Gravatar You know who's going to be footballs Jose Canseco?

Vernon Gholston. Lock it up.

Gravatar If you hate the NFL, you hate America, you pinko terrorist homo.

Gravatar @Magnus

Again, you're saying something is "pretty f-ing good" as a rebuttal to something being "underwhelming." I don't know why you cling to the idea that underwhelming == bad. That's not necessarily true, it all depends on the perspective from which you're judging.

You can put up "pretty f-ing good" stats in college ball that will impress me, Lloyd Carr, RichRod, etc. to the point that we like and want those stats and that talent to stay at Michigan. At the same time, however, those very same stats still look "underwhelming" to an NFL scout or GM.

The two terms are NOT mutually exclusive, IMO.

Gravatar @ Huss

Brandon Flowers, a cornerback (which is a position where speed is much more necessary than WR), was drafted early on Day 1. He and Arrington ran very similar 40 times.

Also, Arrington was Michigan's most consistent receiver, in my opinion. I don't see him as streaky, unless you mean he just didn't catch many balls while Henne was locked onto Manningham. That's like blaming Arrington for Hart's high number of carries.

Gravatar Yes, Dex, hating an alleged "sport" that has devolved into a three hour reality television show chock full of manufactored drama, product placement, and intolerable talking heads is directly akin to being a homosexual terrorist who seeks the wide spread acceptance of marxist doctrines.

Gravatar Correction. If you hate the Lions, you hate America. Caleb Campbell automatically lifts the Lions above the Pats and Colts in my book. If you disagree, why do you hate our troops so much?

Gravatar Arrington was our most consistent receiver?

Mario set a Michigan record with like 6 or 7 straight 6 catch/100 yard games didn't he? How much more consistent can you get than that? And before his injury in '06, he was on pace to put up otherworldly statistics.

Gravatar I'm glad you can agree, BGH. Now kindly stop trying to teach children the ways of the gay and telling them about their capitalist pig parents.

Gravatar @ cfaller96

My point is, they're only "underwhelming" if you don't look at what else was going on on the field.

If you consider the fact that Manningham had over 1,000 yards, Hart had over 1,000 yards, and we played a couple games with a scatter-brained, scatter-armed freshman quarterback, I would contend that his stats were nothing near "underwhelming."

In my opinion.

Gravatar You cannot, per se, teach children the ways of the gay. You must, instead, show them.

I take my duty quite seriously.

Gravatar @ Huss

Yes, Manningham had an excellent STREAK of games. But if I needed a big catch, I would throw the ball to Arrington. He consistently made tough catches. Henne just had to put it near him.

Gravatar The most consistent receiver Michigan has ever had: David Terrell. Whatever happened to that guy?

Gravatar Antonio Bass wasn't bad either.

Gravatar My point is, they're only "underwhelming" if you don't look at what else was going on on the field.

Which is, for the most part, what NFL scouts and GMs are going to be doing. They're going to evaluate Adrian Arrington, not Adrian Arrington in a run-heavy offense opposite Mario Manningham with QB injuries and [NAME REDACTED] calling the plays.

Quite frankly, they neither have time, the money, or the inclination to muddy up their eval picture with the context of a "run-heavy offense" or "stats a #2 WR should get" or whatever other stuff you want to throw out there to gussy up Arrington's resume. That kind of context probably doesn't help them evaluate Arrington, I bet.

And they could be wrong. Arrington could turn out to be a wonderful WR and a great value at the 7th round. But given his stats and his tenure at Michigan, to expect him to be drafted high was pure folly (which has been my point all along). Right or wrong, the NFL scouts were NOT going to be impressed enough to spend that kind of dough on him. It just wasn't going to happen.

And I don't understand why I should defend this point. The bottom line is, Adrian Arrington wasn't drafted very high. If someone wants to claim that the NFL is wrong and should have drafted him higher because of hidden potential, have at it. Rant on about how NFL scouts are stupid or regularly miss out on sure things or overspend on guys that haven't shown production on the field. For the most part, I'm with you on that- the NFL has a weird habit of becoming an echo chamber around draft time, irrationally spiking or dumping guys on little more than gossip or rumors.

But don't claim that the NFL purposefully overlooked Arrington's talent and production. That's absurd- these guys are picked over with a fine-toothed comb for months, and plenty of clubs saw enough of Arrington to make their judgments, accurate or not. And collectively, the NFL passed on Arrington for several rounds. Given that, you can't claim that his production at Michigan demanded a much higher draft premium. Clearly, it didn't, because if that were true, somebody would have picked him up in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th rounds.

Gravatar I'm not claiming they overlooked his talent and/or production. I think they do more homework than a lot of people give them credit for.

I'm just stating that his talent and production are worth more than a 7th round pick.

However, I've stated this before: I think this is proof that teams are taking the Pacman Jones/Chris Henry rules seriously, and his character issues caused him to free-fall.

Gravatar I think that AA made the right choice even with falling to round 7.

Looking at the fall of many of the elite players from year to year (Brohm, the USC Olineman, etc..), makes me think that the NFL is certainly drafting for recent production more than the whole body of work. With a new quarterback, AA would have struggled stats-wise this year and he knew it.

If he has the talents to make it, it will become apparent in the rookie squad if not at training camp. He has a year to impress people. I don't think that top talent will go unrecognized by the pros and I don't think that AA's game would change much in one year (save for a miraculous Barwis transformation).

Gravatar And as for Hart, talk about stumbling into a great situation.

How is losing to the Pats twice a year a great situation? Oh, I get it- because he has a QB who has experience in that and can help him deal with it. Good for him.

Gravatar BGH:

I searched for some good t-rex and wolf pics this weekedn to photoshop and came up with very little. Any news on the artistic friends front? ThiS MUST happen.

Gravatar @magnus

Well, that's a different issue, and I take no position on whether Arrington will end up being a great value at the 7th round. He may be great, or he may be nothing. I have no special knowledge about what it takes to be productive in the NFL. Besides, even if he ends up being great, then it will be because of hidden value, not due to some obvious value that was there in plain sight but was just ignored by the NFL (in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds).

Having claimed no special knowledge on players' future potential in the NFL, however, it's very clear to me that in order to be drafted high, you have to show something in advance that separates you from the rest of the pack at your position. You have to be (for your position) superfast, superbig, superproductive, or some scintillating combination of those traits.

What exactly did Arrington show the NFL that separated him from the rest of the receivers looking for spots on NFL rosters? Superfast? No. Superbig? Eh, kind of, I guess. Superproductive? No (800+ yards is good, but not "super").

Arrington may be a diamond in the rough, but for him to have expected to be drafted high based on his production as it stands now was foolish, IMO.

Gravatar Toomer doesn't seem like the type of guy to take a MM under his wing. MM would be better off with the Browns and Braylon Edwards. Toomer is much older for one thing and kind of seems like a jerk. The fact that he didn't like Lloyd means that he has less in common with MM. I could be wrong.

I heard that Braylon was involved with the team in the past few years while he was on the Browns, and he even helped out MM with some debts that he accrued (probably from buying weed). Edwards and Romeo Crennel would not stand for any of MM's antics and would help get him to shape up. This is not to say that Coughlin would let MM do whatever he wants--he'll be really tough on MM, no doubt--but I think that Crennel and Edwards would be better role models and do a better job of setting MM straight.

Also, I fucking hate the Giants.

Gravatar Adrian Arrington has been praised for his fearlessness in making a play in traffic. Sounds about right.

Gravatar The Colts have won a Super Bowl more recently than the Pats. Just sayin'.

Personally I hope both franchises are someday swallowed up by the Earth and never heard from again.

Gravatar Ninja: I'm going to talk to some people this week. I'm even willing to pay for a good image, if need be. Send me an e-mail (hopptm@gmail.com) if you want for me to keep you posted.

Also, here's a "Marinelli Guy" for those of you inclined to believe the Loins are headed upwards:

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs...408/1004/ SPORTS

Same old fucking Loins.

Gravatar @Dex

Where in THE fuck did you find that "Shoot the balls" picture?

Gravatar OSU got another 4 star commit.

Gravatar I used to not care about the Giants, but I never liked those fucking '72 Dolphins and their narcissistic celebrations when great teams lose. There's just something about celebrating another team losing that rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's just too Michigan State-ish for me.

Anyhoo, since the Giants ruined one of the best chances to totally and finally shut those Dolphins up, I now officially hate the New York Fucking Giants. Assholes.

Gravatar I'm glad Hart got drafted, but it makes me sad to think he will be protecting Manning from harm in 3rd & long situations.

Gravatar Fred@1:28 --
"He was the best pass blocking rb ever at Michigan..."

Which is what I thought, and why I was so completely baffled by the Scouts Inc comment on ESPN on his drafting:

"At one time he was a first-round prospect, but he dropped due to pre-draft workouts. He is a natural runner who displays great patience setting up his blocks. He is very slippery and is able to break arm tackles. But he is very undersized, lacks top-end speed and shows an inability to be very helpful in pass-protection."

Um, WTF?

Gravatar Fucking hell. Goddamn Brew Crew. It reminds me of the group of dumbass jocks in The Program.

Gravatar The comment on Hart about "shows an inability to be very helpful in pass-protection" simply convinces me that the scouts aren't watching the same sport that we are. The vagaries of the draft baffle me, year after year. Why do "pre-draft workouts" count for more than a 4-year body of work?

Gravatar @H for H

According to the list you just posted....WTF went wrong with Tennessee?

Gravatar Any word on where the Beaver is heading? I noticed both Rivals and Scout are talking about him making a decision soon.

Gravatar 3 lineman in the top 13....

Gravatar Part of the importance of the combine is to see how they react to a high pressure situation. The players knows its coming, he knows it is important, and he knows a lot of scouts will be watching. I would also be interested in seeing how they peform in that situation - not unlike how a bad interview can cost you a job you may be perfectly qualified for.

Gravatar Hart lacks top-end helpfulness (in pass protection).

Gravatar For what it is worth, I can kinda see how Hart might have problems blocking up a guy like Shawne Merriman in the league.

Gravatar Anyhoo, since the Giants ruined one of the best chances to totally and finally shut those Dolphins up, I now officially hate the New York Fucking Giants. Assholes.

Fwiw, the Pats are still pursuing the trademark on "19-0", and with their schedule they could actually pull it off. The two games I see being a problem would be Indy and Pittsburgh.

Gravatar lets get more recruits

Gravatar This post is underwhelming.

Gravatar I want an "Emu for Heisman" T-shirt.

Gravatar Mzone has a nice Clausen for Heisman tee.

Gravatar I agree Tonya, it is always disappointing for a post here to be underwhelming.

Gravatar @Ninja football

I'm a Pats fan, and I'd love to see them make another run at it, but...I just don't see it happening. That defense isn't good enough to uphold perfection over 19 games, and the offense is probably never going to be as good as it was this year. Besides, I'd gladly trade a run for perfection if it helped the club improve its chances at a Super Bowl championship (and I know that kinda sounds nonsensical, but hopefully you know what I mean).

IMO, the Pats need to do some serious retooling in the trenches on BOTH sides of the ball. Otherwise, they'll constantly see repeats of the Colts, Ravens, and Giants games from last year.

Gravatar college fball is exponentially more interesting than the nfl. ps, how sweet would there was a draft for college football?

Gravatar actually nevermind, that wouldn't be sweet at all.

Gravatar ... except for the kids that want to go to a specific school...

Gravatar @cfaller96:

Yeah, I'd rather have them lose the first weekend and just get it over with.

Gravatar If the Pats even come close to an undefeated season this year I'll eat my computer.

Gravatar alright, i'm just throwing this out there so take it for what it's worth. buuut, who wants to get a 'alumni/fan fund' together with the intention of perhaps, who knows, possibly, luring recruits to Michigan? i know there is a law school alum who can figure out the schematics behind this.

Gravatar What kind of wine goes best with an '05 Pentium 4?

Gravatar Is your computer made out of sausage? I'll help if it is.

Gravatar dex:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=PXeAG2VuBo0

that's how.

Gravatar I knew what that clip was before I opened it, but I'd like to point out Mike Hart isn't MoJo Drew.

Gravatar haha.

Gravatar Yeah, you're right though. Drew wasn't as good of a blocker as Mike in college.

Gravatar I think we're all missing the real story from Brian's post: Amberly Richardson of AZRedReport.com.

Gravatar The more I think about it, the more I think that Tressel's "...only among the gentlemen" quote was his cheeseball way of saying "That's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard."

Also, having grown up in central Ohio, I can attest to one thing: Dispatch == local-yokel newsletter.

Gravatar I'm a Pats fan too. Appalachian St numbed me enough to not be as badly affected by the Super Bowl loss, but it really sucks. Can the Pats go 19-0 this time? I had to reassure my 6-yr-old cousin that teams usually come back with a vengeance after such a loss, but that is not really the case most of the time.

I think that that the Pats still have a great offense, although they need to spread it around the field more now that teams are putting quadruple coverage on Randy Moss. The defense is old and needs new faces. Hopefully Pierre Woods, Crable, and Mayo can take the reins.

Gravatar Amberly? I, um, "dated" an Amberly once, I wonder if that's her. Not sure I ever knew her last name, and if I did I forgot it long, long ago.

Gravatar Question:

A lot of UM players went further than expected. Do any of you think this is because of the coaching staff? Could any, all or some of the following be reasons for scouts to look at UM and underrate or pick UM players later.

-Poor development in S&C
-Poor use in schemes (DeBord)
-Lack or hype coming from the program about players. (Same would apply for Heisman campaigns and the what not)
-Poor coaching fundamentally

I ask because UM ran a pro-style offense, and put up good numbers (I'm talking about the last 3-5 years), had big time recruits and has a tradition of putting players in the league. Could scouts look at the staff and say that these kids are so underdeveloped or misused that they are not worth drafting right away? I have no empirical data, just going on a hunch.

Discuss now!!!!

Gravatar Oh, and crazy thing, but I am 99% sure that I had an actual panic attack during the App St game. I was only able to follow the score on ESPN (fuck you BTN) and when I found out that we were down 31-20, I was practically on the floor gasping for air, and I am only in my 20s and in otherwise good condition. It's sad, I know.

Gravatar mike,
okay, of course a kid's off-field conduct needs to be taken into account. I figured that was point was a given in the interest of brevity. However, there were a few instances where a kid plays or doesn't play for no apparently good reason and lots of us have said to ourselves..WTF???
Massey, Woods, Thompson, Englemon, Blown-Armed Henne vs. OSU, Kraus-Not-At-Center, Hart Sitting vs Appy State Then Coming Back In And Running For A 55 YD TD, Riley The Gimo At Tackle Not Guard, etc, etc.

Is all of this "Sunday Morning Quarterbacking"?
Hell Yes, it is.
Is that my God-given right as a freedom-loving American?
Hell Yes, it is.

Gravatar Who is this OL you talk about committing to OSU? Scout has a three star from (where else) Ohio committing.
Cory Linsley, from some shit hole in Ohio, and that gives the Buckeyes two OL recruits. As long as they get fucks like this, that leaves guys like Hall, Watt, Nixon, etc for Michigan hopefully.
And it MIGHT be a good time for RR and Co to start chasing these OL's and DL's to the ends of the Earth! And BEYOND!

Gravatar Ha, I see the goddamned fo$u trolls immediately stopped responding once the commenters showed the obvious flaw in their "logic". amd, of course, they are the suckeyes. they don't actually have intelligence.

you're going down the toilet fo$u, and you're taking toilet paper with you.

Gravatar barking sphincter - we have no shot with hall. it's unfortunate he doesn't know how to read a depth chart.
but it has more to do with the fact that he plays for cleveland-glenville than anything else. ted ginn sr hates him some wolverines.

Gravatar @Tim Waymen

Even though my cable package did have the BTN at that time, it didn't matter for me personally. I was driving back from somewhere (visit to the in-laws?), and could only hear updates come in periodically on ESPN radio. I had the steering wheel in a death grip for a couple of hours, and then after it was all over, I had to stop myself from screaming at my wife "Fire Lloyd Carr!" 10 million times. 1 million times, yes, but 10 million times would have earned me a divorce.

Gravatar Greg Frey is 35 and still physically fit. This coach not only knows whaat he's doing, he's young enough to get in the trenches and SHOW our kids how to do it.
Mike Hart is goin to watch our team block this Fall and want to 1) throw up, and 2) punch Andy Moeller in the face.

Gravatar Greg Frey also knows what conference he's in.

Gravatar My balls are falling off...

Other than my alter ego Poo Flingin' McGee, I's have to say that is my nominee for quote of the day.

As for The Horror, I was house-sitting and more concerned with that sideline reporter, I just never, ever, ever thought we'd lose it. And then we did, and I opened a pint of Jack, moved the tv to the deck, and drank myself silly in the hot-tub. All of this after I found myself waking from a catatonic state, curled up on their living room floor three hours later, of course.

Gravatar Y'know, it's funny, but alot of the Blue Aide Drinking Neurotics on Scout didn't want Moeller or Campbell fired. They thought those two were good coaches who had contacts and that would benefit the new Rich Rodriguez Machine.

That is all you need to know about Scout Nerotics. Many of them will make you afraid for humanity.

There's one guy on there who puts a picture of himself holding his baby, and this dude is butt fuck ugly. He's either trolling for dates, or no one has bothered to tell him his fuck ugly fuckface is going all over the intranets.

Gravatar WTF?
I take a vacation and this board gets so f'ing juvenile. There are bits of wisdom and insight here and there but most most of these comments are not worth reading. Cannot all of you 12 year old newbies get your own page and let the rest of us talk football?

Gravatar i let TP shavodrick my beaver the other day. the brew crew and tressel were watchin too, it was sweet.

Gravatar i heard the brew crew travels exclusively by jeep, because they are fuckin extreme bros like that

Gravatar I'm with ya Bo's Ghost. It was so much better before the family values broke down on this board. And before they let "them" on our football team. Kevin Newsome playin QB? man, i'm gonna be sick. it was okay when they were just running the ball, but this is just sick. what's right is right, that's what my pa always taught me.

Gravatar @Bo's Ghost:

Is it too much to ask for a bit of levity throughout the day? There's not an incredible breadth of football topics to discuss. And btw, you're just egging them on.

Gravatar Amen ta that Justin. Okay, I'm going to get in my model t now so i can make it to ann arbor by labor day weekend to root for our boys! Go BIG Blue! And support the men of our armed forces overseas fighting the evil nazis and japanese! huzza!

Yes, plenty of openings for engineers and software monkeys here in Rochester, NY.

Gravatar Looks like Forcier just had a little meet and great with RR.

http://michigan.scout.com/a.z?s=...2% 2f750901.html

Gravatar I'm with ya, Anonymous. Goddamm, Michigan doesn't play second fiddle to anyone. It's time, right fuckin NOW for Rodriguez to get out there and sign some goddamm recruits.

By the way, something is going down, and over at Scout they've got the neurotics in a tizzy. Seems like something might happen tomorrow or even before that with regard to either Shaved Beaver or Tits Forcier.

Gravatar I mean, if you're gonna name a kid "Tate" (which IS cool BTW), why not just name him "Tits" instead?

Gravatar We're gonna lock up Newsome, Forcier the Frenchman, and shaved beave in this class! Plus McGuffie will play QB when Antonio Bass is hurt!!!

Gravatar New Blog up at Scout: Tits Forcier says he'll make a decision after summer camps. Neurotics calling for Shaved beaver. Sky falling. Details at 11.

Gravatar Hey WTXBlue,

I found an updated pic of the Brew Crew Mobile:

Gravatar Sphincter:

Check out the Woodson punt return video from '97. One of the guys on the video on top of the pile at the end is my cousin. He's #42. First name = Tate. True story.

http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=p...feature=related

Please note: viewing the above video could induce goosebumps or spontaneous hetero wood.

Gravatar Ninja - There is no such thing as hetero wood when it comes to Woodson. I'm straight gay for him, and I think everyone here would agree. If you don't you're in the closet. NTTAWWT.

Gravatar Well, Woodson is hot, but then he opens his mouth and can barely speak English. In fact, "gibberish" might be too strong a word for the garbled mumbo jumbo that he can barely spit out without pulling a hammy. I like my men intelligent.
Is this thing on???

Gravatar Tate Forcier's real first name is Robert. I have no fuckin idea why he would go by Tate.

Gravatar Because my cousin has a NC ring, and he, too, wants a NC ring. That's my theory.

Gravatar Let's see: "Bob" or "Tate: He Man Quarterback God"?
It's an easy choice.

Gravatar http://www.signonsandiego.com/sp...1s18p- note.html

Gravatar Bobby Bouchet Forcier sounds good.

Gravatar Can't have a French sounding name. Bouchet is too close to "douche".

Gravatar Her is a good picture of Bobby Douche Forcier.

Gravatar ninja

Is your cousin tate shanski I'm from his hometown if it is.

Gravatar Anon:

Name his hometown and I'll shit. Better yet, name the mascot of the local HS, and the name of the only sports bar in said town. I graduated from there when he was a freshman. _________ HS class of 1992.

Damn it! I knew I shouldn't give out clues to my identity!

Gravatar Ninja -

I'm a huge movie buff myself.

I saw the Dark Night trailer in theaters last friday (during harold and kumar) - looks awesome.

Iron man also looks fucking sweet.

Gravatar JHS:

I'm almost as excited about Iron Man as I am about football season. Just looks effing sweet, and I'm not a comic book guy in general. Thinking about checking out a streamed version of Harold and Kumar tonight, actually.

Gravatar I have a feeling Anon is doing research on my actual identity and the paparazzi will show up any minute. Damn the man!

Gravatar Interesting: Isaiah Bell was already invited to the Under Armour All American Game. Odd because he isn't rated that highly yet. I think he could be a big riser.

Gravatar Ninja - if you liked the original harold and kumar - you'll like the second.

I thought it was funny as shit, its basically the same movie as the first but with new jokes.

I used to be in to comics and have been disappointed with the Marvel films in general - the only one I really liked was X-Men 2, although I still disagree with the decision to change the teams unique customs into a uniform look.

As soon as the spiderman movies revealed that movie spidey shot web from his wrists they became shit to me, spiders shoot web of their ass.

Iron Man looks awesome though and seems pretty true to the original source.

and class of 1992? I'm impressed that an old timer is on the interwebs...
(big grin)

Gravatar Anyone happen to notice that Mark "Tit-head" D'Antonio has raided just about every **** in-state prep for 2009? He's following the sweatervest axiom of dominating all recruiting in-state. RichRod take note--don't forget our in-state boys!

Gravatar Yeah JHS, you can't expect to have my personal stable of life experiences (hot-tubbing w/ 13 lingerie models at the Ritz in St. Thomas and dating Miss Teen USA Maine, who was 11 years my junior are a few personal faves) without being an old fucker like I am. Cheers!

You're never too old to not grow up. You just get older, and make different (and hopefully more enlightened) mistakes. Case in point: the stripper. Although at my age I should've seen that coming. I still think she was a Tressell plant to undermine our fanbase.

Gravatar I'm not one who considers Michigan High School football that much of a recruiting bonanza. Maybe one to three real good prospects per year, sometimes 5. Shit, occassionally ten.
Seriously, I do hope RR does what Lloyd seemed to try to do: Snag the top three, a couple more from Michigan's top ten, and then go out of state. Michigan high school talent has been better the last two years than it has for awhile. I hope RR keeps UM in the mix for the best kids.

Gravatar Rod should recruit who he thinks will help him win the most, nothing more or less (I think he already proved he will do this by passing over little Boren)

There is no reason to tie down the top rated in state talent unless it's something they think they can work with...

If the wins come, the top ranked kids will want to play for UM.

Gravatar OMG RR DOESN'T HAVE 12 4-STARS ALREADY WE ALL GON DIEEEEEE!!!!!11111

Gravatar Let State keep offering kids that weren't ever gonna get a look from the new UM. We'll be fine with guys from Texas, Fla, Penn, and Ohio who would have never ever considered Sparty.

And I'm not sure why everyone seems to be so shocked that OSU is getting top recruits - they've been to back to back NC games, only missed the BCS in two of Tressel's years, three big ten titles in a row, etc. I bet a lot of these top guys are going to OSU because they beleive they are gonna be the guy who puts OSU over the top in these title games they've been getting their ass kicked in.

Also a lot of these recruits are darsches (namely the brew crew) who are a great fit for OSU.

Gravatar No respect for who? You? That's because I think you're sharp as marbles and deserve to get bitten by a rabid chipmunk and fall down a well.

Gravatar Ninja

Or fucked by homosexual squirrel.

Gravatar T would never wish such a putrid fate upon a homosexual squirrel.

Gravatar As soon as the spiderman movies revealed that movie spidey shot web from his wrists they became shit to me, spiders shoot web of their ass JHS

I think the whole super hero thing is an exercise in homoeroticism. Usually these guys are flawed, alone, we never see them at a bar saying something like "Hey, wanna see me leap over a tall building? With you, naked, in my arms?" or something like "Hey, you ever give a blow job to a Batman?"
Man, talk about missing out on a pussyfest.
I mean, am I the ONLY guy who wonders about someone who jumps into a phone booth to change into tights and a cape?
And all these fuckers wear leotards and have capes. It's as if they failed the audition for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy because they were TOO gay.

Gravatar Tate Schanski is the cousin wearing 42, right?

Gravatar "Tate Schanski is the cousin wearing 42, right?"

I didn't scroll up far enough, I see someone else already got it. I remember the name... not too many Tates or Schanskis around.

Gravatar Along the superheroes being agy lines: I think Kool Aid man is a pedophile. Who else bust into a room full of kids, looks around, and says: "OHHHHH YEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"?

Gravatar Barking Sphincter- you are dead nuts right.

Batman would pull some serious tail. I could picture him, guzzling a Starbucks on an early mornind crime call, nursing a bit of a hangover.

"hey Robin, nailed some A-1 tail last night little buddy. Wanna smell my fingers?"

Gravatar Class of 1992? Man, Ninja, you are one old motherfucker.
