woo first bitches

RBUAS didnt win the prose award last year did he? He should have at least one or two submissions to it if eligible.

(is it true you can't win the same award 2 years in a row?)

Gravatar almighty

Gravatar It's true. My genitals are the shiniest.

Gravatar Dam if any of this is true, well then UM has hired scumbag of the year...LMaoooooooooooo

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=1...=3154& t=1890705

Gravatar my genitals aren't shiny at all... maybe I should go polish them.

Gravatar So it's Orson Swindle Award Bukkake 2.0?

Well, in the interest of that, I've got to nominate his "Silver Surfer Who's Now" piece for best post, not just of this year, but of all time.

Gravatar My votes are in. Several categories for this blog, and one for best prose for RBUAS. He's well-deserving of that one. Oops, not ethically correct to express our voting preferences? Oh well. I'll keep quiet for, let's say 24 more hours . . .

Gravatar Son of Jorel,

Oddly poor post from you. Linking to a OSU scout board that has information over a week old? Shame. Review the last 6 days of Jihad. Let me know when you get back to WV being racist.

Gravatar WOOOOO!

M Baseball is #13 in preseason poll!

Two baseball links in a month, finding a place that sells M baseball jerseys, best 2 weeks in Michigan baseball ever. Well minus the world series, and last summer when we almost beat dennis dixon on the diamond.

Gravatar a place that sells M baseball jerseys...link?

dennis dixon???

Gravatar Oddly poor post from you. Linking to a OSU scout board that has information over a week old? Shame. Review the last 6 days of Jihad. Let me know when you get back to WV being racist.
***********************************
ahhh man sorry bro, been working on these dam campaigns for my home girl Hillary. She wants to bring change to change because she represent the most changing of the changiest out of all these candidates. I was the guy that told her to shed a crocodile tear in New Hampshire. Worked like I thought and women fell for it again like it did on my ex when she caught me with another chic. New Hamp pwned by dry eyes and sniffles man.

Gravatar Everyone needs to nominate Brian's "Empire of the Fallen" post for post of the year. By far the best:

http://mgoblog.blogspot.com/2007...-of- fallen.html

Tell me you can read that without choking up and/or getting chills.

Gravatar Also, nominate (not vote, my bad) Brian for best post b/c he cannot win the Dr. Z and best Big Ten Blog awards that he won last year.

I also think Mgoblog should be nominated for best community, but that is because am very vain and like to flatter myself.

Gravatar RBUAS is dead to me. He dropped the ball on writing about either end of Lloyd's last game and had something like nine posts over the course of the season.

Mgovideo for best multimedia thing of the year, even though it's not a blog.

Gravatar I sense sarcasm. But for my own personal enjoyment, I found them at the varsity store @ navy pier on clearance. They're oddly hard to find in AA.

We would have had a chance to face Dixon in the College World Series (not that he was that good at baseball). My hope was that he could have had a fastball drilled into his knee then. Just a thought.

Gravatar DJ Woods facebook status

.... do not follow where the path may lead; instead make your own path and leave a trail.

Cincy?

Gravatar mgoblog for best community? In the words of Son of Jorel, Lmaoooooooooo.

For proof, scroll up to the top.

We totally dropped the ball on that when Brian's traffic quintupled after he broke Lloyd's retirement story.

Gravatar It is a Robert Frost quote... Michigan has a history of using poetry in football?

Gravatar @ frost being a Michigan guy yada yada

Gravatar @JeremyB

Come on now. No other college football blog says "First!" with quite the enthusiasm and lack of irony as this one. That's gotta be worth something.

Plus we're willing to believe pretty much any rumor about anything.

Gravatar that was supposed to be an ampersand.

"& frost being a Michigan guy ..."

Gravatar I take back the Michigan tie, I have him confused with another previous writer. Whoops.

Gravatar @formerlyanon

Frost did have UM ties:
http://www.ur.umich.edu/9900/May...May08_00/ 12.htm

As for your question, were you asking if Michigan football has a history of using poetry? Lloyd quoted famous poets often... (disregard this if you were being sarcastic about the football poetry question)

Gravatar The hottst sorority in AA thread should get us nominated for community of the year. lol

Gravatar i didn't know oregon made the CWS last year.

Gravatar @ DanK,

Yea, I looked at an outdated source (OU runs a page that says they've been to the last 4, maybe they should stipulate playoffs, not world series) when I went to check myself. They were not.

@Bunny

that was one of those rhetorical type sarcasm ones, you are correct

Gravatar Yesterday's premium info/handle jackfest canceled out the sorority thread

Gravatar Our facebook pages are pretty damn communal. YOU'RE TOO FAT is really starting to catch on.

Or the comment threads half way through the season when someone would come on afterwards and ask what they missed, the fact that at least 4 people could summarize it so well was pretty clutch.

Then counteract that with the Magnus vs (Now missing/Newly handled) BILG fights.

Gravatar formerlyanon - right, i'm retarded. I was thrown off by your wavering on the Robert Frost thing, and super gay English degree reared its ugly head..

anyway, the fucklion for best photoshopping:
http://www.withleather.com/post....t.phtml? pk=3698

Gravatar I kinda miss those fights...

Gravatar Brian needs to stop drawing the SEC stories on AOL. He's getting commented on plenty again

At least four conferences, including the one in which Georgia currently resides, are stridently opposed to a playoff. So who's fault is this? The same entity that burned Atlanta to the ground during the civil war: The Big Ten.

Gravatar There's something wrong here about the small blog vs. the big blog thing. Let's see if I can typalize what's inside my head.

I mean, the reason these huge blogs are so huge is because they're so good. I wouldn't think this is a chicken and egg situation. It's more like a milk and chocolate milk situation. Sure the milk is tasty if it's near freezing and accompanied by a few warm, soft homemade chocolate chip cookies. But chocolate milk is delicious just by being chocolate milk.

They're big cuz they're good, not good cuz they're big.

BAM.

Gravatar again, i am retarded. the photoshopping was not on Orson's original post. I am going to stop offering nominating suggestions now.

Gravatar The big ones are running the show, and there are some quality blogs tucked away that we never see.

I'm sure there's several fans out there that think MGoBlog is the same size as garnetandblackattack.

Gravatar Another example, RBUAS is one of the most unknown in the Michigan Blogosphere but by far has some of the best pieces of writing. He only posted like once every other week if that. He's not a daily addiction per say, but awesome none the less.

Gravatar does anyone on here have a rivals account and can paste the pryor story here

Gravatar From Rivals..

"Pryor is just faking these visits. He already decided long ago that he was going to play for Nebraska, as new coach Bo Pelini wants to resurrect the option offense of the Osbourne era. It is believed that Pryor is just using the visits to play with fans, and create some publicity for himself while distracting the recruiting efforts of his rivals."

Gravatar Weird story, I know, but you should really pay for the rest of it. They have some crazy good scoops.

Gravatar WVU filed motion to revert RR case back to state court:

http://blog.mlive.com/ annarborne...turn_rodri.html

I thought that they were happy to litigate in any court...

Gravatar I doubt the case will get removed back to State court, doesn't make much sense to me.

Gravatar Mary Sue Coleman will chime in, isn't that what governors do? Oh, that's right.

Gravatar Woods to UC...

I hope that just because he committed to Cincinnati people don't start making fun of him and saying he's not even that good, because he was good enough to get a scholarship offer from MICHIGAN, he just turned it down. It happens, we just have to wish him the best of luck and move on. Plus rivals is reporting that Christian Wilson is decommitting and is looking at North Carolina, Boston College, and Michigan State.

Gravatar wha wha what??

Gravatar Best of luck to Cincinnati. He was a player Michigan wanted, but we didn't get him so now we move down the list to see who else we can try to get..

step on up Terrence Robinson, Charles Mitchell, and others. I'm betting Isiah Pead will get his Michigan offer now that Woods is off the table..

Gravatar can't believe he choise cinci

Gravatar Terrence Robinson > DJ Woods

Gravatar Terrence Robinson...he wasn't that good anyway...Just Kidding. Good luck to him.

Gravatar well according to buckeye boards pryor told bucknuts that visit wasn'tthat great here in AA still looks good for suckeyes. take itfor what its worth

Gravatar As far as TP goes...I trust RR wont be caught with his rod in the wind.

I think if we dong hear anythign else about RR goign at any other Qb's, then either he has TP on lock or we're rolling with what we have. Either way, I think we will be fine.

Gravatar Sweet, the board has become repopulated with insiders.

Gravatar anyways perry is coming this weekend

Gravatar i don't see where any of this info on Woods & Wilson is coming from. i haven't seen it anywhere.

Gravatar @ M legend, Wilson news is Rivals premium, and Woods is on cincinnati.scout.com and cincinnati.rivals.com...

Gravatar from my friend legend i paid him 10$ to tell me

Gravatar i don't see where any of this info on Woods & Wilson is coming from. i haven't seen it anywhere.
M legend | 01.21.08 - 3:35 pm | #

Because 99.5% of all people posting "insider" information are full of it.

Gravatar man we got a full list coming this weekend

Gravatar Jaron Brown, Desmond Johnson, Taylor Hill, T.J. Lawrence, Nick Perry, and Terrence Robinson.

Gravatar great sarcasm everyone, really, you're hilarious. i got a rivals account too and it doesn't say anything on wolverine.rivals

Gravatar Im not an insider...in fact...I know Jack Shit about football except being a Wolv. fan

Gravatar isiah pead also

Gravatar scout has DJ to cinci for sure

Gravatar that would suck if Woods did goto UC. we could use him and his 4.35 speed

Gravatar CB charles mitchell coming also

Gravatar holy crap, this board became a mess since friday.

Gravatar @ M legend

Dude, it's out on cincinnati.rivals and cincinnati.scout. You think if a player DIDN'T commit to Michigan they'd be in a hurry to publish the story? No, they worry about players that want to come to Michigan. If you want direct links to Woods committing to UC, then here:

DJ Woods Makes the Call-
http://cincinnati.scout.com/a.z?...d2%26c% 3d722010

DJ Woods Makes Decision-
http://cincinnati.rivals.com/bar...=2100&tid=& mid=

Gravatar yep scoutsays wilson is gone not a good fit for RR

Gravatar @ Toledo

thank you for confirming what I said.. any more objections M legend, or do you believe me yet?

Gravatar I will believe it when Herbstreit says so. What about Ronnie Lark from Flint Powers? Where'd he end up.

Gravatar alright dick, i mean chris. cool it. we are all impressed with your internet research skills. you beat us to it.

Gravatar guess that quote from DJ on his facebook was about cincy... good luck to him

Gravatar i am still trying to figure out why cinci over um

Gravatar the road less traveled?

or it could be that coach guy michigan wouldn't even interview...

Gravatar Medium fish/ small pond? Thats all I can think of.

Gravatar That, or the chimp got hired in some capacity by the Bearcats.

Gravatar ya but ya gotta believe kelly will be gone within 2 years

Gravatar Well the good news is that we aren't that short at WR. We had a great class of them last year. We still have two potentials left for this year with "happy teeth" faces next to them. However, carraway seems more of a long shot than the board says and I still hear nothing about Robinson.

Gravatar hey look on scout they are using bryans stuff

Gravatar This whole Pryor ordeal kind of reminds me of our prospect of getting into the MNC last year. After UCLA beat USC, I was going nuts and making phone calls because I figured we were for sure going to Glendale. Then as the night went on, listening to the talking heads, watching UF handily beat Arkansas later that night, made me sort of unsure. Then the next morning when more people were talking about it, I realized we UF would probably jump us.

Early on right when we got RR I was high on Pryor, but now the more time that goes by and the more I read, I feel like we're going to lose out on him too.

Gravatar so we have 8 spots left to fill right

Gravatar OT: Did notice that spartanmag's rankings of players within Michigan? Caught my eye that their rankings differ from everyone else's with a serious slant toward MSU recruits. Loss of all jounalistic integrity. That is why they are the little brother. Go U of M (Minnesota that is)

Gravatar we def need some qb visiting

Gravatar @Toledo

Yeah 8 spots left. their going after Jaron Brown, Desmond Johnson, T.J. Lawrence, Nick Perry, Pryor (of course), Terrence Robinson, Charles Mitchell, J.T. Floyd, Michael Shaw, and Isiah Pead to fill those spots. Their looking at adding a few other names we haven't heard about either.

Gravatar So Pitt's WR coach went to Miami? Don't they have a really good WR commit??? Bout 6'5'', 5*??? Get on the horn RR...

Gravatar Alexander. Previously a commit to FSU I think. Committed to Pitt about a week ago and now backed out. He's the football version of Alex Legion...

Gravatar Any news on Shaw's weekend? He was a PSU commit correct?

Gravatar I was speaking on the condition of sarcasm. I meant Baldwin

Gravatar shaw is still 50/50

Gravatar Also, the list of recruits we currently have...I'm noticing the multitude of QBs in what we've been after. I'm not one to not have a backup plan. How's the JUCO search going?

Gravatar But A.J. Alexander could pull a Finch.

Gravatar toledo man,

sarcastic 50/50 like rivals/scout would leave me to believe, or 50/50 between us and penn state?

After all the jokes yesterday, I have no idea if anyone is pulling my chain.

Gravatar http://www.palmbeachpost.com/ hig...ruits_0113.html check this qb out

Gravatar as my friend put it sunnyside of 50/50

Gravatar As for the QBs we're looking at: Star Jackson, Justin Feagin, and B.J. Daniels. Feagin's got a in-home visit from QB Coach Rod last week, and their working on getting Jackson to come up here for an official.

Gravatar I've heard a little bit about Feagin. Any summary on the other two? Styles (assuming dual threat), quality, etc? I'd look them up but working to get out of the 'office' soon.

Gravatar They were lookin at me for a while. Still waiting on an "official offer". I'm 5'11, 175,, run the 40 in a weekend, and can throw a football a good 50 yards with a tailwind. I may end up commiting to drinking and smoking, as I am already comfortable playing in that system. Bacardi rates me as a 4 star degenerate.

Gravatar Loeffler is new Lions QB Coach

Gravatar Daniels and Feagin seem undersized. Jackson listed as a pro-style QB but better sized. Any info on Dominick Britt? Listed as interested in WVU, bigger, 3-star out of OH-IO.

Gravatar i think star jackson will stay with bama

Gravatar but um has talked with him

Gravatar JUCO not an option at QB according to coach Rodriguez... Michigan doesn't like em.

Gravatar Are we sure that Pryor didn't say about his visit "it's cold" as opposed to "it's cool."

I also don't understand why they think that Charlie Batch being there favors Michigan. He went to Eastern, and like the rest of the schools in the state may actually hate Michigan and think we arrogant as opposed to "knowing the area."

I think Pryor goes to OSU, hoping that he has a Tebow/Leak platoon next year as I am sure the vest promised him. Wouldn't like to be Henton right now.

Vest will say - I turned Troy Smith - half the player you are - into a heisman winner. RR can only give you potential. Don't underestimate the national shine OSU has. They are currently perceived as much more elite than UM, and players who want to be associated with the champion and that swagger will go there. OSU appeals to frontrunners or guys who grew up Buckeye fans in Ohio and western PA.

Michigan is a special place for a lot players due to history, and good nfl track record, but we are not looked at as a juggernaut on the level of OSU yet. (amazing what a few years of disappointing losses can do to perception). In time I think RR will have more of the prima donna - frontrunner type of player interested in UM, but right now, and that is one of the things I like about UM is that it seems that our players really buy into being part of Michigan history not just a great team at the present time.

I think Mallett's departure will pay dividends to the system with a dual threat QB, but it probably won't be Pryor.

Gravatar I agree that JUCO should be off limits but depth issues are depth issues. I don't care if they a designated to the bench in all but the worst emergency. Has it been confirmed that one of the backups dropped (Cone/Sheridan)? I can't remember which one was rumored to be leaving.

Gravatar I remember reading at one time that one was thinking of transferring/quiting by the by. It was a while back.

Gravatar Because 99.5% of all people posting "insider" information are full of it.
chitownblue 00 | 01.21.08 - 3:37 pm |

holy crap, this board became a mess since friday.
chitownblue 00 | 01.21.08 - 3:42 pm |

Duly cosigned, chitown.

Gravatar "Loeffler is new Lions QB Coach"

Link? - because I can't find any confirmation on this.

Gravatar http://www.mlive.com/lions/ index...gans_scott.html

Gravatar the real toledo man is legit, his info has all checked out.

Gravatar Not a big fan of Loeffler's, but jumping to the NFL is always a good career move. Congrats to him and his family. If Stanton pans out, he could see himself as the next Jason Garrett in the coaching ranks.

Gravatar So, Dominick Britt?

Gravatar Good career move by Loeffer, with a year or two of success he could fangle his way into an OC roll when the Lions fire their current OC.

Gravatar Hey, did you guys see that Brohm and Ryan aren't playing in the Senior Bowl. McShay (ESPN) was saying this will really give Chad Henne a shot to showcase what he's got and improve his draft stock. I like that idea!

BTW, Ryan and Brohm are sissies for that.

Gravatar And he gets paid his Michigan salary this year... he should see some serious cash in 2008.

Gravatar Britt's "college choices" list is not that impressive, he might jump at a UM offer, but he might not be a good worthy of a UM offer (based solely on these offers):

Pittsburgh
West Virginia
Akron
Eastern Michigan
Kent
Hampton
Jackson St.
Cincinnati

Gravatar When is the senior bowl?

Gravatar every time i find myself obsessing over a recruit too much, as has been the case with pryor this year, i remember xavier lee, formerly of fsu. EDSBS had a good post on him not too long ago, but he was the second coming of jesus 4 years ago. now he's entering the draft after being told he had to switch to TE to see the field. at FSU.

i'd love us to get pryor, but all this recruiting is a crapshoot for the most part.

Gravatar Harbaugh Scramble,

Diamond in the rough, perhaps? WVU sure has unearthed plenty of those in RichRod's tenure, so it wouldn't for us to give those overlooked 2-starred guys a shot. If they pan out, great. If not, no big loss. But we need QBs, specifically ones that are relatively comfortable running the ball - we'll take whatever we can get.

Gravatar wouldn't hurt*

Gravatar Mobile, AL

Gravatar T.P. is going to Ohio State:

1)gets a year to work his ass off and get even more in shape.

2) will understand the play book completely and be ready for the 09 season

3) will have a better team in front of him for three years before he goes pro!

Sorry Michigan...He's going to Ohio State

***

Gravatar Who knows, maybe Henne can pull a Jay Cutler and blow the scouts away at the Senior Bowl to really add to his draft status.

Then again, maybe he won't.

Wishful thinking...

Gravatar Thanks for clearing that up, anonymous. You, sir, rule.

Gravatar Oh, sorry Harbaugh...I thought you said where...I think it's either this weekend or next.

Gravatar Looks like Saturday at 3:00.

http://www.seniorbowl.com/2008/s...08/ schedule.htm

Gravatar I, for one, don't want Pryor. That will derail my plan to have Sam McGuffie win the next 4 He-is-mans on NCAA 09. Pryor and Sam I Am would split votes. Then when Madden comes out, he will lead the Lions to the Super Bowl as a rookie.

Gravatar pryor will come to be with his cousin clemons. it will be too awkward at thanksgiving when they have to see each other otherwise. with that said, Pryor to UofM. print it.

Gravatar I've lost my interest in the TP saga. It all seems way overblown. The RR/WVU back and forth is also not interesting in the least. Thoughts of Brady going 19-0 and Chunks the Hobo stopping by on a more regular basis is about all I can ask for in the next 2 weeks.

And the Scout Premium Content defenders of capitalism from the other day. Sure, the guys who write and make a living off Scout's premium content should be protected at all costs. It's not like they've created an entirely disgusting industry, exploiting teenagers, inflating their egos and turning college sports into a win at all costs proposal. We should protect these guys and the integrity of the invaluable Premium Content service they provide to the paying public. Without Scout.com, recruiting rankings and the like, what would happen to college sports? I fear a total meltdown.

Gravatar i trust RR. give hime time.

Gravatar As far as calling recruiting worthless, SMQB has a great article up on it. It's more based on whole classes than individuals.

www.sundaymorningqb.com

Gravatar Does this mean that kitten killer still does not have a job? What a shame.

Gravatar I too think Pryor is a lock to OSU. I just think Michigan came on too late. I also don't really see the losing streak ending for 2 or 3 more years. They are just at a better point as a program right now. Michigan is in a transition period, and they will take their licks.

Should be interesting to see who the QB will be next year in the spread option....Either a true freshman who is unheralded (cause Pryor isnt going to UM) or Threet who probably isn't fit to run it.

Gravatar Every time I see anything on Pryor I am getting ugly, ugly, flashbacks of one Maurice Clarett. Loves being in the news, doing things to get even more column space even though they are already in the limelight...Has a "spokesperson"... Very talented but needs a hat size 86.

I understand that much of this comes from what those around you are telling you all the time, but the total lack of humility makes me gag.

If we get him fine, but ANYBODY else getting him will be fine with me too. I am tired of the head cases.

Gravatar Anyone know which network has the MNF game on tonight?

Gravatar I think it's on the Big 10 Network but you might check out ESPN-the-Ocho out too.

Gravatar whoops, two out's. One more and I'm out.

Gravatar Pryor's going to tOSU for sure. Why? Cuz the girls are easier, and he thinks crotch crickets are lucky.

Gravatar well tressel and rr have in home visits this week with pryor

Gravatar as faras lsu and pryor people are telling him to narrow his list not add

Gravatar DJ Woods to Cinci. Oh well.

Gravatar Every time I see anything on Pryor I am getting ugly, ugly, flashbacks of one Maurice Clarett. Loves being in the news, doing things to get even more column space even though they are already in the limelight...Has a "spokesperson"... Very talented but needs a hat size 86.

Ditto. This is what I'm most afraid of. But Tress knows what he's doing, if he thought he posed a danger to the program, I don't think he'd go after tp.

On the other hand, I'm also getting flashes of Justin Zwick.

Gravatar Will TP be to Henton what Saine is to Beanie?

Gravatar "if he thought he posed a danger to the program, I don't think he'd go after tp."

Hello? Did you guys NOT just mention Maurice Clarett???!

Gravatar No one knew he was insane! Now we're all more cautious.

Gravatar man i tell you whattressel is promising alot to TP

Gravatar the latest is promising the biggest hiesman campaign he can come up with

Gravatar Saine will have his day. That day will come when he learns how to pass-block.

Gravatar What did Clarett do that was so bad? Amateur if you ask me.

Gravatar Saine will have his day when Beanie leaves early for NFL. TP will have his day when Henton leaves early?, graduates?, transfers?

Wonder when Tressel's over recruiting at every position will catch up with him? As long as the kids don't figure it out before they sign...

Gravatar No kidding.

Gravatar New article on Terrelle Pryor's visit to UM

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com...igan/ index.html

Gravatar The thing is, no one knows how good Henton is yet.

As for Saine, the thing is that he's behind Mo, who sees a lot of field time because he's the best pass blocker we have (that's important when you have an average QB). Saine learns to block, and he gets more playing time and moves up the depth chart.

Gravatar But "Boom" Herron is also lurking.

Gravatar True. That knowledge brings me great joy.

Frankly, if our biggest problem is "What will we ever do with all this talent?" well, I'm cool with that.

Gravatar Sort of how you guys all seem terrified of gaining BCS berths at the expense of first round draft picks.

Gravatar Not a single American Gladiator reference yet.... nice.

I almost hope if we don't get TP he goes Clarrett on OSU. May you wish the same upon us.

Gravatar Anybody comparing Clarett to Pryor really has no idea WTF they are talking about. What is this based on? Outside of the fact that they're 2 black guys who were tops at their position coming out of HS, the comparisons stop there. He's enjoying the recruiting process and having fun with it - so what? You sound like a bunch of crotchety old folks when you criticize the kid for taking it all in. I've watched some of those interviews with Pryor, and he seems to be in the Greg Oden mold with his well-spoken attitude and stern-if-even a bit funny-arrogance. Maurice Clarett? Good lord. There are literally dozens of highly-recruited kids out there who are tiptoeing the recruiting process and sending off all kinds of vibes...Pryor is no different, and calling him a Clarett clone if he goes to our rival is just about the dumbest thing I'd have heard recently.

Gravatar Carmen O,

Amen. It's sad that an OSU fan has a better perception of our program than some of our own.

Gravatar Black is black is black.

Gravatar Huss,

It's nothing personal against TP, it's just I and most other tOSU fans have a pathological fear of going through anything like the Clarett fiasco ever again. TP could be a wonderful kid, I don't know. But superstars give me horrible flashbacks, and they probably will for some time.

I don't think praising these kids like we do during the recruiting process does them any favors.

Gravatar Nick Perry has USC at the top of his list.

Well, that sucks. This process is enough to make one a bunny cooker.

Gravatar It's not over 'til I say its over. Bunny Cooker it is.

Gravatar I remember the last big time QB that went to OSU, the Golden Boy Justin Zwick, he ended up having a great career.

If Tress is selling TP on the fact that he turned the somewhat undheralded as a recruit Troy Smith in to a heisman winner, TP should be wary that Zwick who was supposed to be THE OMG Best OSU QB EVAR turned out to be a bum.

Gravatar Formerly--

Nice spike on the G. Close set-up.

I want my Hassenpfeffer!

Gravatar USC's program is teetering on the brink of the death penalty, and Pete Carrol is going to the Falcons. That's what I would be telling Nick Perry. Oh well. He's probably a Trojan. I would rather be a Trojan than a Spartan I guess.

Gravatar Yes, I think it's fair to say that going to USC is a slightly more attractive destination than MSU.

Gravatar I think Perry's family will have a say in this.. Thats too far away from Momma and they can't be at all his games... I think he ends up in Ann Arbor.

Gravatar I'm just glad Perry is not considering OSU. Its a double whammy if a big name recruit turns down M to go to the Bucks.

Gravatar The SI article has me feeling like we have more of a shot at this guy. He emphasized the things we have in our favor - namely the RR spread offense. Like that Barwis was a huge hit. That is a big plus.

I say we got a 50/50 chance on this. Dad probably likes OSU better because its closer to PA, but maybe TP thinks M will be a better situation for him early.

He can't leave early if he is not starting until his junior year.

Gravatar TP should look at numbers before believing the Vest will run a "spread":

T.Smith - 5700 yds pass, 1200 yds run
P.White - 4200 yds pass, 3500 yds run

Smith won the Highman with his arm, not legs. He should also look at the attrition necessary in Baltimore for a tOSU QB to get a start in the pros.

Tressel will easily do to TP what he is about to do to Henton if another #1 QB comes along in 1-2 yrs...

Gravatar For what it's worth, Michigan offered a partial to a SEVERELY underrecruited "athlete" out of metro Detroit, who ran an option offense at QB in high school and he turned it down for a full ride at MSU.

His name is Keshawn Martin and he'd be a 4 star recruit right now if it wasn't for the fact that he was literally non-existent in the eyes of recruiters due to the fact he went to zero camps.

Gravatar offered a partial? not sure that's the way it works for football.

Gravatar Or not offered at all, I just know he visited them a while back. It's really just word through the grapevine, but the kid got 2 Big Ten offers in a matter of days after they were sent his recruiting video.

Gravatar Richrod had better put that coffee down(!) and start freaking closing.

He is going to have to pull some Doug Henning-esque magic to get us into the top 10 classes.

Snoop and the Song Girls got their claws into Perry on that visit...he's going to be a Trojan. That sucks.

Gravatar Partial scholarships count as full scholarships in the FBS.

Gravatar The kids that want to go to USC from the midwest want to be bigger than big time -- that or they want to get as far away from Detroit and Chicago as they can, and I guess SoCal seems about right for that. It feels like an immediate step into money and stardom. That's why Rojo left. I bet something comes of this Reggie Bush business though -- at least a slap on the wrist of some sort for USC. Maybe that's why Pete Carrol is listening to offers from the Falcons.

Gravatar Given inherent disadvantages, UM just can't flip the recruiting switch the way UF, OSU, UT or USC can, to say nothing of ND and their TV contract.

Unfortunately, for now, we're probably at least 2-3 years away from first pick of the litter. We'll need a few years of on the field buzz, which the five stars will follow. Tradition and academics work for many very good players, but UM has to offer even more to compete.

Of course, if NP and TP sign, I'll gladly accept that all of the above is absolute bullshit and that RR is the greatest salesman since Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross.

I want the Cadillac, not the set of steak knives.

Gravatar Update on Christian Wilson from two threads on HailVictors with several additional posts from Christian's mother: Apparently the Rivals report on a decommit is incorrect. Sounds like CW is still trying to find out where he would fit into RR's system and getting a lot of mixed signals. This kid sounds like a great young man who really wants to go to UM if they're really a place for him within the program. I hope the coaching staff can address his concerns -- we're going to need all the playmakers we can get.

Gravatar I remember when Perry visited in the summer and talked up Michigan like it was the best thing since sliced bread and talked about what an honor it would be to play for UM because not a ton of players from Detroit get that opportunity. When he visited MSU prior to UM, he was saying the same things about MSU. He seems like he's always really high on visits right after he gets back from them. I'm sure his USC visit was incredible, so there is reason to worry, but at the same time it's safe to just wait and see after the UM visit with RR and Barwis too.

Gravatar If Rojo doesn't get his hooks in too deep, I don't think Perry's a done deal for USC. Everything I read says the distance is a big deal for him AND his family. Maybe not as good as we'd like but I think we've still got a pretty darn good shot.

As far as TP, its kinda funny. The only posters I can find that actually think they're gonna land him are the buckeyes on this board, and the wolverines on the buckeye boards. (who are just as much, if not more doom & gloom on getting TP as we are.)

Gravatar Needless to say, this blog should bring home quite a few of these awards.

Keep up the good work, Brian. There's a reason you're the lone Michigan Blog representative over on BlogTenFootball.

Gravatar All I was saying was my gut reaction (reiterated by Carmen O) was that media-loving recruits give me the willies and worse. I have not seen all the interviews posted on TP and if he's Greg Oden then I'm REALLY confused. But I did watch him in the Army all star game. He gravitated to the camera (which, of course, wasn't far) and I thought (Scooby Doo style) "Rut Roh!"

RE: USC mess: I am a believer in East/West coast media bias: If UM or tOSU or anybody in the SEC or Big 12 had the $250K scandal that USC has had on it's hands...would they have treated as nicely or would they have been screaming too?

Gravatar Hey Chip F:

Get back to work already.

Gravatar I forgot to mention that the 2-3 year time frame I posited dovetails with the facilities improvements.

BTW, have you seen the updated OSU Woody Hayes Athletic Center? Holy crap. I think AAA just gave it a 5 Diamond rating. UK did something similar for the basketball team.

Haven't been to Schembechler in a long time. Will we EVER have something that nice/ridiculous?

It's an arms race.

Gravatar @ Blu Veritas

Didn't want to bring it up (it will be unpopular here) but if I'm TP and I'm looking at facilities, OSU wins by a mile, maybe by 100 miles. The new facility is fabulous. You guys are just starting construction on your improvements. If you're 17, BEING there is way better than "hey, look at our blueprints!!!"

Gravatar This scandal @ WVU is now front page at the NY Times online.

University Investigates Whether Governor’s Daughter Earned Degree

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — It started with a phone call from a newspaper reporter in October seeking to verify the academic credentials of Gov. Joe Manchin III’s daughter Heather Bresch. But in less than three months, the inquiry has mushroomed into a controversy that risks casting a shadow of cronyism over this state’s flagship university.

Officials at the college, West Virginia University, have been accused of rewriting records last fall to document that Ms. Bresch had earned an executive master of business administration degree in 1998. An investigation by The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette concluded that she had completed only 22 of the required 48 credit hours.

Gravatar @ Pecos Helga

I have no argument --nor a leg to stand on -- with you. If you read my earlier post, I think it could be 2-3 years before we see the kind of success we Wolves feel entitled to, which would have a corrollary effect on recruiting the five stars. That puts us out to 2009/2010...right when the upgrades kick in. Thus, the stars might align.

Of course, if we plan to bring the gun to the knife fight, we have to outspend OSU and the rest of college football. Of course, that competitive advantage is unsustainable, and every school wanting to be elite will end up in the next two decades building 200K seat stadiums and/or cutting all humanities and social science departments to keep up.

Somehow "General Studies" and "Kinesiology" will survive the cuts.

Gravatar Sell point: "You'll be the one opening this new stadium."

"The first records set in this new facility will be yours."

Yea, they're baseless sells, but if he's as self centered as some people claim, I bet he'd eat it up.

Hopefully he's not that much of a prima donna.

Gravatar @bluestatedon,

If they start claiming Michigan alums at the NYTs are responsible, I would not be surprised.

And now we know why the Gov. is so involved with this.

Gravatar I hope this doesnt come across as spam..

I have started a big ten football blog and am in need of a Michigan correspondent. Are there any commenters here that could be dedicated to posting a few times a week about Michigan football?

Nominations from other commenters are much appreciated, so who's the best representative from mgoblogs commenters?

Let me know.

Gravatar Definitely Clueless, THE KNOWLEDGE, el noweis, Charlie Weis, and Mark Mangino.

and by definitely, I mean definitely not for any legitimate purpose.

Gravatar And...

Any dbag caught announcing "First!"

Gravatar btfootball - check out the links to M blogs on the sidebar - one of them would probably be willing to moonlight to drive traffic. The kid from Michigan Sports Center does a nice job.

Any serious candidates? Every time I check the comments here you're never far. You'd know better than most.

Gravatar @Blogten

What exactly do you mean as by "Michigan Correspondent?"

Gravatar -correction
What exactly do you mean by "Michigan correspondent?"

Gravatar harbaugh-

While I'll be doing my best to cover most of the big ten, it'll be nice to have a guest writer from most of the teams to get some more opinions in the blog.

They'll essentially be a writer for blog ten football that writes solely about Michigan football.

Hope that makes sense.

Gravatar I'd oblige, but there are better people than me to help you out. And contrary to my incessant hanging around here, I really don't have time for this, much less that.

Serious candidates though, the obvious favs here most of the time are gsimms (he's probably a bit busy for it as he's a teacher), chitown, ChicaGoBlue, Magnus, Johnny Sideburns, Chris B., dex, Jim Harbaugh Scramble, gobleu, or DanK. I know I left out at least 2 others, I just can't place them right now. If you want some witty style recaps, OrlandoGoBlue, MallettFumblesSnaps (aka Rumpleforeskin), and Keegan.

CAUP 91 has disappeared. BILG has disappeared.

The longer list up there is made up of people who have appeared to been around since at least the summer. Most of them contribute some good comments or insight from coaching experience.

(if I left anyone else out, It's tough to list out eveyone)

Gravatar Thanks, formerly.

I honestly appreciate the help. We'll have to see who's interested.

Gravatar I have a feeling you'll get a lot of similar responses as my own. It appears we have several law students on here. They don't have the most free time. There's also plenty of "older" people posting. By older I mean 30 or older with families and jobs they're comfortable in (not to mention gsimm's typing might not work for you haha).

do you have the site up already (ie can you post the link)?

Gravatar BlogTen,

I might be interested if it is only a couple times (2 or 3 times) a week and a few paragraphs each time

Here's a link to a post of mine if you want to check it out:
http://jimharbaughscramble.blogs...1996- choke.html

Gravatar Formerly - the link for Blog ten is:

Gravatar formerly-

Yeah the site is up (although in its infancy), just check my homepage link.

harbaugh-

I'd love you to help me out if not too much trouble. I appreciate it. Do me a favor and shoot me an email at blog10football@gmail.com.

Thanks :)

Gravatar You may want to approach the ES for state as well. He's by far the class of the michigan state blogs (perhaps the only?). I just wish he would change his layout.

Gravatar ES? I had a lot of trouble finding a quality MSU blog, a link would be appreciated.

Gravatar www.enlightenedspartan.com

this guy is meh:
http://blog.spartymsu.com/

Gravatar Jim Harbaugh Scramble -- I checked out that post about the 96 NU game. I was at that game, and I can't express my bitterness in words. I have some NU alum friends, and they returned after the game to where we were tailgating all excited etc. It was so bleak, so bleak. That was when we had Traylor at nose guard I think, and weren't we undefeated going in? Dreisbach etc.? Fucking yuck.

Gravatar Which was worse, that loss to NU or the one when A-train fumbled at the end?

Gravatar Thanks a lot, man. You've been a great help :)

Gravatar I could write for MSU:

"Damn, lost to that other school again. I wonder if the MAC is looking for new teams? Well, see you next year.

Hey, how about that basketball team!"

Gravatar Blog ten, I sent you an email.

Gravy - I'd say the A-Train fumble game was worse just because had we won that game we would have been undisputed big ten champs and been in the rose bowl.

Gravatar I waste a ton of my time with big10 blogs.

http://www.google.com/reader/sha...ig-ten- bloggers

This may lead you to some other good ones.

Gravatar TennBlue,

But would you be internet savvy enough to create an html countdown clock?

Gravatar Losing to Northwestern is terrible no matter how you slice it, but the 96 game to me was worse than the fumble game, simply because it was so improbable. That and the enthusiasm of the dorky NU fans made it a hard pill to swallow.

Gravatar Not sure if anyone has heard about this but apparently Brady is in a walking cast: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumo...t? urn=nfl,62907

Gravatar I saw that about Brady. It's not uncommon to cast a minor sprain etc. He says he's fine.

Gravatar Like you said Gravy, losing to NW is never good, especially the last two times we lost to them.

Gravatar Well at least he has two weeks to get healthy. If its a walking cast it shouldn't be anything too serious, not career killing at least.

Gravatar I heard Mel Kiper this morning saying that Brady ran a 5.2 40 and had a 24 inch vertical at the combine. That's horrible. Larry King could do that. Yet he's about the greatest ever.

Gravatar If I have to hear 54-51 from one of my bosses again, I might flip a table on him.

Gravatar Northwestern alums like to be all high and mighty like they don't care about football, but when they win a little they're all in your face. The Barnett years were the worst.

Gravatar Here's hoping that RR never losses to NW (or to anyone, especially OSU)!

Gravatar You can tell we were one of the first stops for blog10football. The poll results thus far on who will win the big 10 next year:

Michigan 5
OSU 2

I was one of the votes for OSU.

Gravatar But would you be internet savvy enough to create an html countdown clock?

Right Here

Gravatar You win sir.

Gravatar I voted for UM just because I can't vote for OSU, that would be 4 big ten titles in a row for them.

Gravatar formerly-

Haha how right you are. BuckeyeCommentary hasn't had a comment in like six hours and no other blogs have users up this late carrying on conversations.

You guys should be very proud.

Gravatar This one's better

Gravatar "no other blogs have users up this late carrying on conversations.

You guys should be very proud."

I'm not sure proud is quite the word I would use...

Gravatar Late night discussions? That's my thing.

And yes, not proud of it.

And JHS, I knew you would be an NFL draft guy. All of us Lions fans are. Best day of the year.

Gravatar haha.. Yeah I guess it depends on how you look at it. You guys are dedicated, though. That's for sure.

Gravatar I can't vote against them because their defense just looks so much better than ours even without gholston.

Their offense, hopefully by then I can call it a push. Scheduling I believe is in our favor though.

They have the opposite home and away schedule, then us at home. That means they get penn state @ home where as we'll get Wisc and illinois and state.

Gravatar We're more demented than proud.

Gravatar My job makes this board a necessity. I spend 4-5 days meeting 30 new people, then leave never to see them again. I need some consistency. Michigan Football keeps me sane.

Gravatar Not that it matters for confernce record but OSU does have to play at USC.

That game may get ugly, I'll be wearing my Trojan's Simpson jersey for sure.

If OSU makes the NC again... ugh.

Oh and Old Fan, I'm a huge NFL draft fan, its like X-mas day for me.

Gravatar Why isn't Mike Hart playing in the Senior Bowl?

Gravatar So at the risk of being not on topic (which seems to be lamenting our collective insomnia): what were your thoughts of last year's draft.

In retrospect, I see big problems. At the time I was happy? My biggest problem was Stanton and Alexander. This was true at the time and still today.

Gravatar OSU has a home-home with USC and then OK in 2016. Why don't we have any sweet home-home matchups coming up again?

Gravatar I'd love to see the Trojans beat the buckeyes in back to back weeks. They have troy the week after.

Gravatar I say that we schedule West Virginia and create the mother of all home and home series.

Gravatar OSU has a more ballsy AD?

Gravatar Gravy - I think you have to be asked to play in the senior bowl, and I'm guessing Hart wasn't asked.

Old Fan - I hated the Stanton pick (so far so bad for him), the Alexander pick I wasn't happy with but he has turned out better than I expected, I wasn't big on the Ailema-fracis pick either. Loved the Calvin Johnson pick though.

Gravatar We have ND (which could be a great game any particular year). Having 2 A-list games happens from time to time (see oregon and washington). It's not the best case.

Gravatar I say Mike Hart shouldn't play in the senior bowl because his ability is not what would grade out well in practice/ drills.

Gravatar "Why don't we have any sweet home-home matchups coming up again?"

We play ND every year thats why.

Gravatar Jamar Adams is listed on the roster. I hope Mike Hart can make it in the NFL.

Gravatar Formerly, if Michigan football keeps you sane then I don't think it is just your job that is hurting you.

Personally, I watched what should've been the most talented Michigan team in years underperform all year (injuries, I know) and then look like golden...err maize encrusted gods in the Capital One bowl and it drove me nuts. I thought my pubes were going to fall out.

Gravatar Being a Texans fan, I loved the Okoye pick. Our defense actually looked really good once he and Mario got on the same page.

Gravatar I'm still happy from the cap one game though. The coaching search had driven me mad and I hated everything about college football. That game brought me back in and made me realize why I need a top program in my life.

Thus the constant recruiting watching, which is again driving me crazy.

Gravatar INjuries didn't kill Michigan. Appy State did. Michigan was all jolly and relaxed and confident going into that one and then wham! AFter that it was a tailspin into Oregon. We then regrouped until injuries did set in at the end with Wisky and shitty overrated O-state.

Gravatar So your the Texan fan. I heard that one existed, but never thought I would get a chance to meet him.

Gravatar @Musket,

During the 75 day road trip, there was one thing I was sure about, as long is its not sunday, there will be content about michigan football. So I drank as much as possible on saturday night so sunday wouldnt exist. It worked fairly well, both to keep sunday from existing, and making the pain from watching the game go away for a while

Gravatar I still want to know what happens in the second half of Oregon with a healthy team.

We had 300 yards of O at half and I think that we would have shown some life. In this case the injuries certainly gave us no hope and at least contributed to the embarrassment.

Gravatar Yes, I'm born and raised in Houston. I could never like the Oilers. That AFC championship against the Bills sealed the deal. 42 point lead at half time!!! HOW???

Texans I can live with. At least they don't blow up expectations. They beat the cowboys in their first matchup and I've been gungho with them since.

Gravatar I agree and disagree. If Mike Hart plays the whole game against App State then the horror never happens. He played basically a quarter and a half and had 188 yards. But, I do agree that Oregon happened because of App State.

Speaking of the Lions' Alexander pick, I thought that was a great pick, but only because I watched a ton of Boise State games last year and thought he could be great. He had a decent freshman year, and should get better next year. I'm excited about the Loeffler hiring, it'll be interesting to see what he can do with Stanton (if that is the way they decide to go).

Gravatar I'm pissed at myself for how much I've gotten into recruiting as well.

And a U of M WVU would be the mother of all home/home matchups. I could see it turning into a red wings/avalanche thing from a few years back.

Hell, that rivalry could almost compete with us and OSU... without the 100 years of tradition of course.

Gravatar @ JHS,

I think that we should look at established talent on D for a while. No more fliers that we think can grow into a position. We don't have a track record of having growth in our system.

Bennie Blades, Mark Carrier, Chris Spielman. Solid college players that had good NFL careers. This should be or focus - aka David Harris.

Gravatar I could see WVU being way more worked up about it. We'd need one hell of a kitten picture for overcoming that.

For those who haven't seen it,

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/2...r=1& oref=slogin

Gravatar I wish recruiting happened like when I was young. I picked up the Detroit News and looked through the list of top twenty players and felt satisfied that most of he top ten chose us over state.

Life was simple.

Gravatar Yeah, David Harris turned into a monster for the Jets this year. It'll be interesting to see what they do with a "defense" focused draft. I can hardly watch the NFL anymore because it seems like the most watered down form of football on the planet. With the exception of the Pats because they play beautifully and their offense is how I play offense on NCAA 08. Except their QB is better looking.

Gravatar UM/WVU would never happen, Bill Martin doesn't want to be responsible for WV fans shitting in the big house seats amongst other things.

Gravatar As far as photoshop jobs go, this one at AT was one of my favorites:

http:// autumnthunder.blogspot.co...ssssssssss.html

Pry had something to do with my happiness surrounding that period of time.

Gravatar Apologies for the spelling on the previous post.

I didn't see the governor controversy. All the more reason for him to step away. I don't know what's worse, Manchin or Pastilong. Can you imagine Michigan admin acting like this?

Gravatar I seriously need to go through autumnthunder. He may be pretty high up there in the newcomer of the year award. He and I seem to be on similar brain waves. I think, dude this would be a hilarious photo shop, I go there, he posted my idea an hour earlier.

Gravatar I realize that WVU/ U of M would never happen. Just throwing it out there, much like my ill fated bowl game at Lambeau. Sunday didn't help that cause (though in an ideal world it should have helped).

Though I do like that Brian's most recent Fanhouse post embraced the no road games for playoffs position.

Gravatar @Old Fan,
I really wish the Lions took Harris, he has looked great so far on the Jets.

Millen is an idiot, so you never know what your gonna get in a draft when he's at the helm. I've heard that they believe Stanton is the QB of the future, so I bet this is Kitna's last year and Stanton takes over in '09. I'd bet money on the fact that they don't take a wr or a qb in rounds 1 or 2.

They need to upgrade the secondary and o-line i think those are the pressing issues.

Gravatar blimpie burger is supposed to be on food network (rerun) in about 5 minutes. mmmm... grease...

Gravatar The defense was exposed at the end. They were never as good as they were playing in the beginning. They were getting lots of turnovers and then only at home. We do this every few years or so. It masks our fundamental problems.

The silverdome always had some turnover magic every three years. (The Mecca of the NFL).

Gravatar Autumn thunder is a solid blog, I think he has a great shot a best new blog, hell he'd have my vote.

Us UM fans are lucky we have a lot of great blogs (Mgoblog, Michigan sportscenter, etc.).

Gravatar I enjoy AT as well. During OSU week I sent in a pic I photoshopped for OSU fan of the week and he posted on the site. I was happy.

And please give updates on the food network thing. Seriously.

Gravatar @ JHS/Musket,

Going on my requirement that we should pick productive college players only, who do you think we should take?

Ghoulston

Gravatar Ahh the Silverdome magic - getting the lions into the playoffs and 9-7 seasons, those were the days.

Gravatar My house was so skipped right over.

It's the crazy black lady from blimpy.

Gravatar I long for 9 and 7. 9 and 7 and an off season bitching about Fontes would be amazing.

Gravatar I lived two doors down from Blimpy on Division. I hope they have torn that thing down.

Gravatar I ate there just a couple days ago. Peppersteak Bullet with onion rings. Old black lady wasn't there though.

Gravatar Nope, they showed the guy that bought it 14 years ago. Still the same way you left it old fan.

Gravatar @Old Fan

we have pick 15 I'd like to have: Kenny Phillips, safety from Miami, he has started since he was a frosh at Miami, he could be the next sean taylor. I'd also be intersted in Aqib Talib, CB from Kansas, he is a lockdown corner and can return punts too, even play a little WR if needed. Dan Connor, LB from PSU, I could deal with, him and ernie sims (who could be the next big thing) would make a nice LB duo. I wish we had a shot at Jake Long, but he will be a top 3 pick.

If Sam Baker tackle from USC is availble he would be a nice pickup.

Gravatar 500lbs of burger meat in a month doesnt seem like that much.

Gravatar I lived down by Cross and Division. Just walking past Blimpie Burger everyday added 5 lbs to my waist band. That and the drinking.

If the Lions get Gholston I'll shit a brick, especially after what he did to us. Plus he's a native son, that would be great for the Lions.

But I really think that Millen is going to trade up and pick Manningham with the 4th or 5th pick. What a moron.

Gravatar Ghoulston would be a nice pick too, not sure if he would be around at #15 though.

Gravatar Big Clarification.

I love Blimpy.

I want my old house torn down. That place was a dump and a health hazard.

And the good looking cook (not the old one) is definitely a new addition.

Gravatar Blimpy Owner:
"Our biggest cost is our napkins".

This doesn't surprise me one many levels.

Gravatar She was there. Not bad

Gravatar And I appreciate the updates guys

Gravatar I think 15 is too high for Connor. He's projected as early 2nd rd. If Gholston is there I'd take him. We've taken safeties the last two years (Bullock and Alexander). I think CB is more of a need. 15 is too early for Talib. If that is the guy they want then they should trade down for more picks into the mid twenties and pick up another 2nd rounder.

Gravatar So I first had Blimpy at a U of M basketball camp when I was 10 or 11.

Both my friend and I had to call time out middle of the first game to run to the bathroom.

I love Blimpy, but not during bball camp. Big mistake

Gravatar No way gholston last past the 7th pick. My texans I think have th 18th pick. I have a feeling they take Ray Rice or the next best RB available. This last season was rough with Dane and Green (oft injured) was rough when you have no pass blocking.

Gravatar Mike Hart is a good pass blocker. Just sayin.

Gravatar ugg they focused in on the women's hockey team. one of them wasnt bad looking. the other 3... eek. it was her 21st birthday so she got a 21 patty burger.

Gravatar and is over.

Gravatar I really like Phillips and Talib, but the lions usually do things I don't like (see: stanton, joey, charlie rodgers, etc.) So I'll hold my breath until they pick. Ghoulston is a beast, I could deal with him in blue and silver. It would be a lot better than seeing him in scarlet and grey.

Gravatar I actually like Talib alot. I am not sure about with which pick, but I would like him on our team.

Gravatar I'm out. Early morning tomorrow. Good late night chat.

Feel free to log on as Anonymous and call me an idiot while I am gone.

Gravatar For those interested, there's much ado happening on the Scout boards over alleged improprieties involving OSU, Pryor, and a Jeanette, PA businessman.

Gravatar night

I'm out as well. the gonzaga san fran game is putting me to sleep (as NCAA bball tends to do).

Gravatar I think Gholston lasts at least until 12 or 13. If people don't like him for whatever reason he could slip to us. There is a lot of D-line talent early in the draft with Long, and Dorsey to name a few. It'll be a break if he makes it there, but if he does I think the Liedowns have to take him.

After that you have to look for O-line help and CB. The rest of the team isn't that far away from being decently competitive. Although next year is really awash with Kitna coming back anyways. My good friend's little brother bet my dad 20 bucks that Kitna would be MVP of the league this year. Every time my dad sees him he chases him around yelling for his 20. My dad drinks a lot too, I feel that is neccessary info for this post to seem logical at all.

Gravatar One last thing . I was amazed at how easily I adapted to having Spielman on the team. Also, how easily I criticized Backus. So I don't worry much about the OSU - Lions thing.

Gravatar http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com.../ mockdraft.html

Here's a mock draft for anyone intersted, not sure how much I buy chris long as #1, though.

Gravatar dammit, that had to be posted about osu

Gravatar Jumping into the Lions draft talk, I think it's okay to take a guy a little early to fill a need (ie Talib). It certainly would be different than our recent strategy other than Sims, and he seems to be working out as well as we could have hoped.

So far I like Talib, Baker, and maybe the OL from Pitt (Ugoh I think).

Gravatar Where to go to see the scouts OSU info. Or is this behind a pay wall.

Gravatar JHS

Wow, that was a terrible mock draft. No way Miami takes Long over Dorsey. Dorsey makes their defense instantly 15 times better.

Gravatar Care to enlighten us further on this Pryor and OSU happenings?

Gravatar Here is my problem with the Lions (below). Just take an established college player.

" I will refrain from making that same old Matt Millen / wide receiver crack... For all of the Lions problems, and there have been plenty, perhaps the biggest has been the offensive line. The George Foster experiment was a major flop so Detroit needs to add a top right tackle and Jeff Otah is an intriguing possibility. A JUCO transfer who didn't start playing football until his senior year of high school, Otah is still very raw but he is coming off of a fantastic senior campaign and has excellent size (6-6, 340) and athleticism. As good as he already is Otah still has a ton of upside and potential."

Lions are not known for upside development. Just take the known entity.

Gravatar Otah, not Ugoh.

/words that sound like cavemen noises.

Gravatar Well said old fan.

Manningham goes before SF too. Tennessee, Jacksonville and Dallas could all take him.

Gravatar not seeing anything on the scout boards

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=1...54#s=145& f=3155

Gravatar @ BlogTen

If I had to bet, Pryor goes to tOSU, and we bring in a couple guys who are either "athletes" or are mobile QB's and we see something like Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor this year, although out of a spread. With Threet and "Mystery QB A."

Gravatar IMO -Mannigham will be late first/early second.
Arrington will be late 2nd/3rd
Henne will be 2/3 and Hart will be 3-5.

Long will be a top 5 pick. Adams will proabbly be drafted but late.

I don't think any will end up on the Lions.

Gravatar How can we get Mendenhall and Talib? These are my two targets. I will throw in every defensive player except Simms. Including big baby.

I have high hopes for Bullock to comeback so safety isn't my main concern.

Gravatar I'm waiting to see who these "who they" guys come up throughout the week. With about 10 guys we're looking at, I doubt we get more than 6 of them, that leaves 2 spots open still. There will be at least 4 other guys spontaneously jump on the board this week.

Gravatar ok, trying bed again, no more false posts about TP (or true ones) as I need to hit the hay.

Gravatar I like Mendenhall, a lot too, great combo of speed/size, he out ran USC and the only other guy who could say that was Vince Young.

Gravatar Damn microsoft word for correcting my spelling errors, everywhere bet here. I actually have a real job (which starts fairly soon).

No editing makes me lose two degrees worth of self respect.

Gravatar I will say that Mendenhall's parents wearing large shirts with dollar signs on them is not a good sign for his signing early and coming to camp.

Gravatar Is TJ Duckett going to be back with the Lions next year I haven't heard anything about him.

Gravatar I think so. He said he wanted to, especially with Martz gone. I see him as only half an answer though.

Gravatar Yep. This time, I'm going to bed. Here's to 9 and 7 and the detroit news top 20 all-state team circa 1988.

Gravatar I lived at 543 S. Division, two houses down from Blimpy... the smells that wafted over... mmmm. Tempting, on a daily basis. Also, Nick Stadts - are you the rugby dude? I played my frosh year before I blew out my knee, and your name sounds familiar.

Gravatar Would next year be the year no one gets drafted from Michigan?

Gravatar Oh Dang.. scratch that.. Terrence Taylor.
Jamison in a laaate round

Gravatar alright I'm gonna hit the sack. Feel free to check out the site and leave a comment.

Thanks for making the night less boring, Michigan fans.

Gravatar I'm out, great chatting all.

Go Blue and Go Detroit Lions!

Gravatar The Lions should pick Jonathan Stewart if he's still available. We haven't had a decent back since Barry became the grandest Lions casualty of inept management. Alternatively, I'd say go for a QB b/c Kitna and his backup's have no long-term potential but it's doubtful whether any good ones will be left (e.g. Ryan / Brohm). Rarely does an NFL team succeed without either a stud QB or RB. We don't have either now and NEVER have had a decent QB. Our run of bad NFL QB's is unprecedented.

Speaking of the Lions I was never a fan of Loeffler so it didn't surprise me the Lions would pick him up. I think it could work however since the Lions usually ruin talent and since Loeffler is not talented the Lions could have a reverse effect on him -- like turn him into a good coach or something. And for those thinking Loeffler was an unfortunate loss in the RR transition think about it... The dude was willing to work for Phat Fulmer, the same guy who voted Loeffler's '97 teammates 4th in the final coaches poll, ensuring a share of the MNC. He was also willing to work for Nick Saban. Yuck.

Gravatar Hahaha, one of the posters on the Buckeye forum lists his ignore list, and SonOfJorEl is one of them!

Gravatar Pryor will come to Michigan. At the end of the day I think it is becoming pretty obvious that he is an intelligent kid the way he is playing the press. Immediate stardom or lost in the shuffle initially and OSU does not have the wideouts or scat backs to run the spread like Michigan has on tap. Oline is an advantage for tOSU but again big controlling linemen arent the core of the spread option, allowing linemen upfield is actually wanted to create running lanes, all you need to do is keep a body on them and let them think they are going where they want to. Also, do you want to run the spread for a coach who has to learn it or for the coach that made it what it is today??

Gravatar Have there really been no comments since 4:58 yesterday or is my computer broken?

Gravatar Obviously my computer was broken.

Gravatar dex, mine was broked too for a second there.

Gravatar @Have Faith:

I'm not terribly worried about TP. We'll be a better team if he pick us, but we won't be all that much worse off if he goes elsewhere. The O will have a different look, but will still work.

My faith is in Rich Rodriguez to take advantage of what we've got, whomever that is. We'll be fine either way.

So while I'd love to see Terrelle wearing blue, he needs to pick what's best for him. I'll live with the results.

Gravatar Wazzup with Chunks these days?

Gravatar Not football related per se, but this really gives you an idea about who and what RR and staff are dealing with at WVU. I'd have to say it might even be worse there than at tOSU.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/2...r=1& oref=slogin

Gravatar eh, that story is completely orthogonal to the RR stuff.

Gravatar oops didn't see someone hit that last night

Gravatar According to ESPN recruiting page, DJ Woods committed to Cincinnati. Oh well

Gravatar It's been very cold lately. I'm worried about the safety of Chunks. Someone needs to grab some copies of the Daily from the past couple days and do a welfare check.

Gravatar DJ went to Cincy to play for Brian Kelly who isn't going to be there in two years. That's sad, because you know Kelly's sitting there going "I'm going to be here for the rest of my life." At least he quoted Frost on his facebook page yesterday.

Gravatar So essentially there has been nothing new all weekend? I was out of town and just spent an hour reading up... oh well. Back to work until signing day or I get bored again.

Gravatar We learned that sharing Scout.com's premium content publicly really pisses them off.

Gravatar Scout = Taint

Gravatar Scoutguy = whats below taint

Gravatar @DanK

The croneyism and corruption at WVU on displayed in the NYTimes article are orthogonal to the RR issues? They are uncorrelated? There seems to be quite a correlation between corruption and willingness to lie and releasing false info to hard your ex coach.

The only time I have ever seen someone use the word orthogonal in the blogosphere was in a comment Brian (the official Brian) posted on EDSBS last week... find your own words, and make sure you know what they mean before you use them.

Gravatar Scoutguy = internet gestapo

Gravatar perry says usc is deff top of his list now visits um this weekend

Gravatar Don't you remember when I was contemplating getting an account and sharing the info? I guess it's good so that I didn't get pestered on the boards by some lame guy.

Gravatar Only things we learned were DJ Woods gone. WV governor's daughter is in a scandal. Scout users want our commenters to stop the copy paste usage. Arizona smells funny. Christian Wilson has yet to decommit. We short @ QB this offseason.

Gravatar Perry says that whoever he visited last was his favorite. I don't think we'll know anything about where he's going until signing day. But I'm sure we'll hear it from scout first.

Gravatar Joe Manchin wishes he was the Fonz, but he'll never be able to jump all those buses on his motorcycle.

http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/ 5...40A659CEC4C8CB6

Gravatar If I worked for Scout/Rivals, it would be a daily challenge to not swallow a shotgun.

Gravatar wow, thx word police.....imo the admin in the AD at WVU do not necessarily mirror the admin at the WV B school or other academic units.

but whatever....fine, is tangent a better word? and i read other things than what is contained in the 'blogosphere.' i recall him using that word, and i have heard it used in other contexts as well. perhaps i should properly attribute every word i use here.

thanks for being an asshole about it tho.

Gravatar Unrelated to recruiting...

I read the Mitch Albom article from Sunday, and was disappointing that the MSU-I mean-Detroit Free Press had another article piling on our new coach:
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.d.../801200588/ 1054

But then I was listening to the Huge show on my drive home last night and he was saying how Albom was suspended in 2005 for making up parts of a Final Four story:
http://www.metrotimes.com/editor...ory.asp? id=7649

Should Mitch Albom really be the one asking questions on gray ethical issues?

Gravatar http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.d...01220356/& imw=Y
Break down of coaches salary/bonuses/assistant coaches money pool

Gravatar that should say "was disappointed"

Gravatar The heart warming story is far more important to Mitch Albom than your petty "truth". He is an author! A respected writer!

pssst....I heard he poisoned Morrie for that book. ALS was just a cover.

Gravatar Businessman allegedly involved with bribery having dinner with OSU coaches and a realtionship with the #1 football recruit in the country.

Gravatar Wow, was that from the Scout board? Insiders!~!~!~!~!~!~!!!~!~ Tre$$el!!@@~!one!! OSU IS TEH EVIL~!~11`!

Gravatar If that is true, it should be going to the NCAA, not on a premium message board.

Gravatar toledo, where is that from?

Gravatar Lets see, I figure I have 45 minutes to an hour before Brian makes his first post today. About that same time EDSBS will have a follow up, probably a minor one with no interest for me. About 2 hours after that should be the Fulmer Cup. SMQB looks done for the day. Long post yesterday probably means light today. BHGP probably won't post until later. BON has gone all basketball recently, don't care. I'll do the big10 tour around 3, general meandering from 5-7 to different conferences.

Well, my day of procrastination is planned.

Gravatar its been all over pennsylvania papers

Gravatar there was rumors of it on osu's scout board last night but i couldnt find it.

Gravatar hello everyone...

Gravatar guys name is ted sarniak

Gravatar I'm going out on a shaky limb, but if Ohio State was going to bribe Pryor, I think they might be able to do it a little more discreetly than having dinner with a "businessman" who is known for "bribes" and has a "relationship" with Pryor. Maybe I'm nuts.

Gravatar apparently he was being investigated for bribing police dept in penn. he is close with pryor

Gravatar from a Pitt newspaper board...

"The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office has cleared a Jeannette businessman and a police officer of a bribery allegation after the officer failed to charge the man with drunken driving and refusing a blood test following an accident.
Ted Sarniak, who owns Jeannette Specialty Glass/Oceana, crashed his car into a utility pole in Jeannette on Oct. 28, 2006. Police did not arrest Sarniak, even though he smelled of alcohol and was uncooperative with police, according to District Attorney John Peck."

Gravatar So, let's change this to a guy who allegedly bribed a cop in a completely unrelated to football incident and knows Pryor. Shady dealings~~!

Gravatar Background on this Sarniak guy:

Owner of Jeannette Specialty Glass, (glass goods is the historical produced good of Jeannette) since 1976.

"We make outdoor lighting, glass sinks for kitchens and baths and glass tile, and we just got into dinnerware."

The company's Oceana line of bathroom and kitchen sinks sells all over the world.

"We've made sinks for most of the major hotels in Las Vegas, for Ringo Starr and Celine Dion," Ted Sarniak says. "Our line of gourmet dinnerware and serving bowls will be used in upscale restaurants and homes all over the world."

Why do I care?

Gravatar There's nothing about Sarniak bribing Pryor on the internets that I can find. Whatever Pennsylvania papers are publishing this, they don't have on-line editions.

Oh, hey, I had another idea. Maybe it's complete bullshit.

Gravatar Because obviously OSU is paying Pryor through him, because it is completely unthinkable that someone wouldn't want to play for Michigan, therefore, OSU must be cheating to get him.

Gravatar http://www.phillysportsforums.co...ead.php? t=20470

A guy posted a full article, important line:

Last week, OSU’s coaches made an appearance and had a Thursday night dinner with someone close to Pryor believed to be Ted Sarniak, a Jeannette businessman. The following day, the 6-6, 225-pound Pryor headed to Ann Arbor for his second official visit.

Gravatar is the guy an OSU booster?

Gravatar Ah, a guy who might have been Sarniak had dinner with Pryor and the Buckeye coaches last week. Therefore, there must have been an under-the-table bribe that nobody saw and cannot be confirmed.

I smell WVU logic here.

Gravatar Wait a minute,

the article doesn't even say Pryor was at the dinner - "someone close to Pryor" only.

So in actuality we have OSU coaches meeting with someone who might have been Sarniak, and Pryor was nowhere to be found. Boy that sure smells like bribery to me.

Gravatar But yea (continuing WVU logic) would WVU go after OSU to give us Pryor?

hahaha

Gravatar Terrell has also been seen driving around town in a corvette. Also interesting, because I know so many 17 year olds driving those around these days.

(looking for an official link for this rumor, not found yet, but RUTS is asking the same questions)
http://runupthescore.wordpress.c...-see-me-rollin/

Gravatar Holy fuck! He made sinks for Celine Dion. We're fucked.

Gravatar anybody watch the senior bowl practices on nfl network

Gravatar Can anyone confirm if Terrelle has been seen driving around town in a fully-armed Abrams M1a1 tank?

Can you confirm that he's been seen driving an nuclear submarine in the Ohio River?

Gravatar If he has, I definitely want the kid on our side.

Gravatar i seen tressel here in toledo visiting the prison wanted to visit clarett hahaha

Gravatar I'm actually not at all torn up about DJ Woods going to Cincy. The kid is fast, but 6 ft, 166? Come on, he's just not big enough. Teams are going to bump this kid so that he cant run a halfway decent route. Maybe he'd be a good PR/KR? Brian Kelly has got quite a little operation going on in Cincinnati (I live here) and there's no way he's here past the 2009 season.

The whole Pryor/Sarniak thing reeks of baseless heresay. But, at the same time, how many times does it turn out that baseless heresay was rooted in truth? A lot, actually. Tressel is not clean. He left Youngstown State a big mess to clean up. Troy Smith takes money (way more than $500, believe me on this) and gets supsended one game? Tressel lied for and to Clarett for his entire career, then threw the guy under the bus when he left OSU. Up in Cbus, you'd be surprised how many Buckeyes work at car dealerships in the off-season. I once saw Ted Ginn rolling around with no less than 40K worth of rims. OSU is one of the largest spenders on athletics in America and yet their athletic curriculum has consistently been spotlighted as one of the worst in the country.

All I'm saying is that their is a certain apttern of behavoir coming out of Columbus that gives legs to rumurs of shady dealings. At the same time, there is a dearth of actual facts, so it what is, I guess.

Gravatar My roommate once bought Jake Long a drink... I think that's the only reason he stayed his senior year. We should investigate it.

Gravatar So I'm the only one who ever saw Michigan athletes with pretty nice looking vehicles?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's exactly illegal or a violation for a parent to get some nice financing from someone on the basis they expect their child to turn professional in the future. I certainly don't think that these kids are dumb enough to drive nice cars without at least trying to make it somewhat kind of legal.

Gravatar I think that all programs in the entire nation, save our beloved M are dirty, believe me. You have no idea how many players in Florda shovel snow for boosters over the winter (trust me, my cousin is from there), and how many Notre Dame players work at the Bentley dealer in downtown Chicago (it's right across the street from my office!). John David Booty took around $300,000 (trust me on this, guys) and plans to use it to erect a 75 foot bust of Pete Carroll in downtown LA.

Gravatar And why, exactly, should we believe you, Mr. Anonymous Internet Poster, that Troy Smith took wayyyy more than $500?

Just because OSU has been beating us like mules doesn't mean there is SMU level corruption going on.

Gravatar I bought a car from Vernon Ghoulston once.

Gravatar He even talked me into undercoating.

Gravatar I bought a flying car from Vernon Ghoulston once.

Fixed.

Gravatar He even talked me into undercoating.

You could've gotten it for free if you'd told him you from LSU. He would have personally washed and waxed it, too.

Gravatar Well played folks.

But this is distracting us from flooding the NCAA with calls about this glass guy and OSU. Plus, we should let them know that "big gay heart" has it on good authority that Troy Smith took way more than $500. Time to make OSU retroactively forfeit those past few wins!

Gravatar hey dicks. I'm not saying that OSU is dirty. But I lived in the city for 15 years and its not like there's some big secret: People in Columbus want to win at all costs. It's a different atmosphere than up in AA. At the time, it was pretty well documented that Troy Smith probably took a lot mre than $500 bucks. National news outlets have down stories about how easy the OSU athletic curriculum is. The Clarett situation was total debacle and Tressel has to hold some of that blame.

Tressel's tenure at YSU: "There were a number of NCAA violations while Tressel was at Youngstown State. While investigations did not reveal anything specifically targeted at Tressel, both he and YSU were sanctioned for violating the NCAA CONSTITUTION 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.8.1 and 6.4.2, known as Lack of Institutional Control"

Note that htis is the exact same thing Troy Smith got in trouble for: takign money he didnt earn.

Be assholes if you want. But realize all that I'm saying is that OSU and Tressel have consistenly demonstrated behavoir that make current and future allegations somewhat believable.

Gravatar We don't call him Cheaty McSweatervest for nothing.

Gravatar Gabe Watson had a sweet H3. Fuck.

Gravatar While investigations did not reveal anything specifically targeted at Tressel

Gravatar There is also a lot of speculation that the United States faked the moon landing and that Freemasons killed JFK. Only one of those is true, so I'm not sold by the speculation that Smith took more than $500.

Gravatar dex:

way to comment on just the first part of the sentence. If he was sanctioned, there HAD to be soem wrongdoing on his part, even if it just merely not controlling his program.

jesus christ.

Gravatar As a rule, anytime someone says "trust me" after making a claim, I assume the information is not legit.

Concurrently, I do believe Tressel is a cheater. The YSU stuff was well documented as was the Troy Smith incident. If Clarett hadn't been such a whack-job, something more might have come there as well.

Walking into the OSU game two months ago, I was chatting with a buckeye. I asked him if he thought Tressel was clean. His response was, "Hell no!" He went on to say that as long as Tressel never got caught, he was okay with it because "pretty much everyone does it."

Gravatar I'm not the one claiming Tressel is bribing players and running a dirty program. You cited a lack of institutional control penalty which reveled no specific violations, and occurred at a different school.

And psssst...everyone cheats.

Gravatar I sort of operate under the theory that every major D-I football/basketball program is, in some way, cheating. I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Gravatar i shouldnt have said "trust me" regarding the Troy Smith incident. My grandfather worked in the ohio statehouse as a lobbyist for 20+ years and he told me that he thought it was a lot more. and this was before the incident was reported in the news and before smith was suspended.

Gravatar Gabe Watson was driving the Hummer during second semester of his last year. He had already finished his career and had signed with an agent at that point. The agent had fronted the money as a bonus for signing with him.

Anyone who was in Ann Arbor at the time might also remember Braylon driving around his new Bentley during the winter semester of his senior year.

Gravatar How does working in the statehouse make one privvy to the size of Troy Smith's payout? Is this voted on by the State Assembly?

Gravatar Obviously the payment to Smith was so large that Tressel had to get it approved by the legislature. It's hidden in the budget bill for that year, possibly under the "Public Schools" section.

Also, Braylon's car was badass. And was anyone here at the Greenwood block party where Gabe plowed his Hummer down the middle of the road during the thick of the party, forcing everyone to move?

Gravatar Also, be leary of jumping to conclusions about athletes driving nice cars. Athletic departments are permitted to own something like 80 or 90 vehicles for athletes to use to get around campus and to get to practice. These are often new SUVs. Usually, this is what you'll see athletes cruising around in.

I've also heard people make claims about Kevin Grady because he drives a nice Tahoe (or something similar). Kevin Grady comes from a pretty wealthy family in East Grand Rapids, and a car like that is pretty standard for a kid from a family in similar areas.

Gravatar so scott loefler to the lions coaching stanton huh

Gravatar chitownblue 00:

there are a lot nepotic/good-old-boy elements present in any state political environment. ohio is no different. my grandfather is a big osu fan, so i dont see why he would lie to me. for all i know, he could be wrong, though. im operating on heresay because thats all there is to operate on. notice, i'm not saying: "tressel is 100% dirty and here's why." all i've said is that there is a pattern of behavoir that doesnt make it outlandish to believe that the osu program isnt altogether clean. maybe its just wishful thinking on my part, and if so, oh well.

Gravatar Case in point: anyone remember Ed Martin?

In addition, I remember Charles Woodson driving around in a Land Rover before he declared for the draft. David Terrell had more diamonds on him than his body could support.

Gravatar i'd rather michigan lose every game for the rest of eternity than cheat. im glad we had to forfeit everything to do with the fab 5. also, i hate louis bullock.

Gravatar I wasn't at the Greenwood block party for Watson's mowing, but I was dating a girl who lived on Greenwood during Braylon's senior year. I was sleeping at her house one night, and I woke up to someone yelling outside. I looked out the window, and Braylon was standing inside the open door of his Bentley. A girl was running into the house across the street, and Braylon yelled, "I drive a fucking Bentley, bitch!"

Gravatar Fans like dex are the reason people hate Michigan fans. You can't state an opinion without his pompous ass making snide jokes about if for the next 10 minutes. What a complete asshat.

Gravatar no, big gay heart, there is a pattern of behavior that consists, of roughly 75% speculation on your part, ie:

-"investigations revealed nothing about Tressell specifically"

-"the Clarrett ordeal was a debacle and Tressell has to hold some of that blame"

-"my grandfather worked in the statehouse" (you've yet to explain why Troy Smith's payoff would be a matter of government policy)

-"it was more than $500 (trust me)

All of these are 100% unverifiable. So you're fabricating a list of evidence, and then acting as if you're being reasonable by saying that it "at leat establishes a pattern".

Gravatar :(

Gravatar New Jersey Guy - it's fans that go beyond the pale to state opinions as facts in order to slander an arch-rivals that make Michigan look like a bunch of sore-losing bitches.

Gravatar Anyone got NFL Network? It sounds like Henne is doing pretty well at the Senior Bowl thus far...

Gravatar The nice cars thing is a really bad indicator. People forget that not all college football players are poor and from the inner city. Some of them might be rich before they play.

Or was the sorostitute driving a Land Rover on the AD payroll as well?

Gravatar why is everyone so pissy today? you can't take a step in here w/o someone calling you out. must be the cold.

Gravatar Damn you, how dare you call me pissy. Bastard.

Gravatar ;)

(just in case)

Gravatar this is one of my favorite posts brian did this year:

mgoblog.blogspot.com/2007/09/unverified-vor- cripple-fight.html

cripple fight!!

Gravatar i caught the end of the senior bowl practices saw henne throw 1 pass, which the receiver dropped..but they were saying how all 3 qb's looked great

Gravatar TennBlue:

what the french, TOAST?!?!?!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W...h? v=WEJJUGJZxpU

Gravatar chitown:

-"investigations revealed nothing about Tressell specifically"

how is this unverifiable? its true that the investigations did not name Tressel as personally committing any violations, but lack of insitutional control is indicative of the head football coach. who else is supposed to maintain insitutional control of a fottball team?

-"the Clarrett ordeal was a debacle and Tressell has to hold some of that blame"

Its an opinion. Steve Fisher was held responsible for Michigan Basketball by teh University and public, why should Tressel be any different. Facts are ,he used the kid for a MNC and then discarded him later.

-"my grandfather worked in the statehouse" (you've yet to explain why Troy Smith's payoff would be a matter of government policy)

-"it was more than $500 (trust me)

These two are were stupid for me to say and I apologize.

I still thik there is a pattern of behavoir present. Tressel loses "control" of the YS program and players were taking money from business people in the area. Then, he goes to OSU and the same exact thing happens with Tressel being just far enough away (in both cases) to not have anyhting leveled at him. To me, thats a pattern.

Gravatar Athletic departments are permitted to own something like 80 or 90 vehicles for athletes to use to get around campus and to get to practice. These are often new SUVs. Usually, this is what you'll see athletes cruising around in.

As a former scholarship athelete at Michigan, I can say that this is 100% bullshit.

From the NCAA:

Student-athletes may not receive any benefits or privileges that are not provided to all students (e.g., meals, cars, entertainment at home, vacations, etc.).

Gravatar It's totally true. My Econ prof let me drive his Geo, so they provided cars to all the students.

Gravatar i hear henne said at senior bowl that threet and cone may transfer depending on spring ball

Gravatar Michigan gives every student a car. They just won't give you any place to park it.

Gravatar Gabe had his in the fall semester by the by. Alan Branch got his after winter break. His little POS cavalier was, well a POS.

I miss Alan, we tried to get him to go drink for drink with a guy in my house hoping the guy in my house would get alcohol poisoning. Those were the good ole days when D Lineman visited during the offseason.

Gravatar is threet allowed to transfer again? he'd be like a 24 year freshman that wasnt a mormon.

Gravatar Threet's going to be a 36-year-old as a Sophomore if he actually did transfer.

Gravatar He's lost one year of eligibility, so he'd be at least junior by the time he plays.

Gravatar Unless of course he transfers down. You don't lose a year if you go D2 right?

Gravatar does keanu reeves have any eligability left? maybe he could try out for qb.

Gravatar i can't believe they're selling season tix for baseball.

Gravatar I can't imagine he'd transfer. He transferred back to Michigan under the assumption that he'd be behind Mallett, so why would not getting the starting job really send him away?

Gravatar threet and cone?!? wow is it possible to go into a season without a qb

Gravatar The new fish should be gorgeous come late april. I still have my mcard so screw paying for tickets. During my undergrad years I'd only make it to the OSU games and a couple other games. Its just too damn cold to play baseball.

Gravatar they are not sure how they will fit in rr offense

Gravatar I wonder, toledoblue, who are your sources that allow you to come on here, every single day, and post things that aren't reported anywhere?

Gravatar What are they doing to the fish? Is the comp lab itself changing?? So many nights in there...

Gravatar toledo man, rather, not toledoblue.

Gravatar Henne probably posts here and likes watching people get riled up.

I think he is elnolewis.

Gravatar floyd says he will make his choice monday or tuesday after his vist to the vols this weekend

Gravatar elnolewis seems like a good call. Toledo - are you a "quality engineer"?

Gravatar elnolewis has a new handle. i can't imagine anyone else making the comment about hiring the chimp at cinncinati once Kelly leaves.

Gravatar My guess is that all the insiders that post here just delete all the "I think" and "I bet" portions of their post before hitting submit, leaving us their oh-so-assured bits of wisdom.

Gravatar chitown:

maybe toledo man has a grandpa that works in the statehouse, too. no?

Gravatar haha I can't give out my sources the morale police will harrass me

Gravatar What intrigues me is that despite Toledo Man obviously having a direct line to Cone and Threet, explaining how he knows their concern about the offense, he chose to not disclose this info until after Henne mentioned it. Since you know, toldeoman has displayed such restraint with his other scoops.

Gravatar I'm sorry if I'm being the truth police. But it was so fucking annoying during the coaching search to watch people post 100% guesses (BILG coming on and saying "Miles is a done deal!") and have everyone bow at their alter, signing on to ask if BILG "knew anything else", when it was clear that he knew nothing. BILG wasn't the only person - there were plenty more. They'd whip everyone into a frenzy...I just legitimately believe that if someone actually knew this shit, they'd probably make a pretty good living as a reporter - not an anonymous message board poster.

Gravatar Just to save you a letter of typing, its moral.

Gravatar toledo - the morale police? Do they not want people to get sad? I don't understand what you mean.

Gravatar I gave up on insiders. If I spend more than 2 minutes searching something online, or I can somehow trace it to scout or rivals, screw it.

Gravatar But remember chitown, we haven't heard from BILG. And silence, or as I call it, "lack of information to report since he was making it up", meant that things were going good. That means Miles is coming Saturday.

Gravatar Let's face it - Scout and Rivals credibility isn't much better than BILG's - at least he had the decency not to charge.

Gravatar I haven't picked up on BILGs new handle yet. I know he's out there... waiting for the chance to pounce on Magnus, or someone.

Gravatar I've got your back with the inside info:

pryor to duke (that boy wants his education)

mcguffie de-committs, goes to a&m

threet transfers to psu

Gravatar formerly - you think BILG would have changed his handle? He was on here forever before the coaching search. He was on weekly, having shrill, shrill arguments with Magnus for the entire season.

Gravatar I doubt he changed it, but wouldn't surprise me. I'm trying to remember what his handle was before BILG. He changed to that right around the oregon game. I'm too lazy to look it up, much less could I bear to look through the post-apocalypse posts.

Gravatar We just need a little bait... somebody start posting some ridiculous B.S. as Magnus. Whoever fires first is probably BILG.

Gravatar I want to say he might have announced his temporary retirement sometime after the hire too. "Too busy" to continue posting and was taking the offseason off.

mgobleu, might I suggest that Lloyd was a god and its all the players fault for not being motivated or in shape?

Gravatar I post a lot of bilge, anyway.

Gravatar speculation is part of sports. hell, when the self-proclaimed WWL posts more innuendo than news, a certain type of climate is sure to follow. just take all non-sourced info with a grain of salt and move on with your life, you know?

Gravatar BILG retired like seven times during the coaching search due to the stunning incompetency!@! of Bill Martin.

Gravatar dex:

Very glad that you have such impeccable journalistic principles in re: Jim Tressel. Apparently you will never be convinced that he is any dirtier than any other coach ever, because after all, he isn't a fucking snowflake. Your cynicism and concomitant wisdom know no bounds.

Youngstown, Clarett, Troy Smith, academic scandals ... this is a pattern, whether it can be proved beyond a shadow of a doubt or not.

Gravatar @STW P. Brabbs,

For me its more a what have you done for me lately that screws OSU so much that they crash and burn in a hysterical panic causing them to lose championships, go on a probation similar to our basketball team in the 90s resulting in at least 15 years of football the likes of Duke.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Gravatar @Brabbs

When Tressel is popped by the NCAA for anything substantial, fantastic.

Until then, I don't waste my time whining like a baby because the big bad Sweatervest is cheating to get better players than Michigan.

If Michigan was beating OSU, nobody would be giving a shit about Tressel and his alleged cheating.

This is an interesting read, re: over/under achieving teams based on recruiting rankings. FWIW, Michigan performs roughly where it should, given recruiting rankings.

Gravatar I think it was pretty accurate with the Big10, Wisconsin and Iowa are some of the biggest overachievers.

It also is funny to look at state and psu. Morelli probably accounts for the slight underachieving at psu. johnL the same for state.

Gravatar does anyone wanna talk football?

sorry, im just a little bored...

Gravatar pryor accepted my buddy that goes to ohio state's facebook friend request and not mine...looks like he is a tOSU lock

Gravatar "If Michigan was beating OSU, nobody would be giving a shit about Tressel and his alleged cheating."

100% agree. Obsessing about it always strikes me as whining about losses.

It's not as if every team that cheats is a top 5 team; the large majority of cheaters are not.

Gravatar Speaking of SMQB, I had an interesting conversation through email with him the other day re: playoffs.

What if Mizzou and OU (farfetched, but possible) would have faced off in the final game and Mizzou would have won. They would have been 1-2 vs OU but happened to win in the final game. Does that give them the right to be the (supposedly non-mythical) NC?

Gravatar gsimm- how brutal is our offense going to be next year? especially if we dont land pryor and we just throw an athlete in at that posistion...most likely just be tons of running?

Gravatar simmons,

I can't conceive running a 3-4 at the high school level. You must have some real athletes.

Gravatar well first about the 3-4...and not being a highschool defense...

why do you say that?

tell me what you think the 3-4 is, then ill tell you why i run it...

but we are the least athletic team in our conference...

about the offense... doesnt matter what we run, without a senior on offense you are going to struggle... the one thing we will have going for us, is the element of suprise, ie, game planning against michigan will be difficult the first year. So im hoping that in of itself will give us a chance, despite not having experience...

Gravatar imagine being utah right now, you are like, what the hell are they going to run that first game?

that is a big time advantage for michigan...

my app state guy, was telling me that they had the michigan package down to a t before they left spring ball...

Gravatar In my experience, and keep in mind my HS team was beyond awful, it seemed easier to find mediocre LBs than it did even marginally competent d-linemen. We always ended up with 2 or 3 pretty athletic guys that could grasp playing LB but just some lazy fatties on the line that turtled up the minute someone hit them.

Is that why the 3-4 is better?

Gravatar we're going to need some pleasant surprises on offense next year.
I don't care who we get in this recruiting class, if Michigan can simply avoid a losing season in 2008 I will be okay. Not happy at all, but minimally satisfied. Gotta keep that streak since 1968 going.

Gravatar good point gsimms, with no game film for utah it will be cool to see how M comes out, do you see it as just having fun?! pretty much like an expieremental offense?

Gravatar The best part is regardless of if we get pryor or not, its still a positive. They won't have any idea how RR will install an offense around Threet. If we get Pryor, will they start Pryor or Threet? I like it.

DIABEETUS! Sorry that commercial was just on.

Gravatar I want a fuck-lion

Gravatar i totally sent pryor a pm on myspace but he didn't hit me back. he must be going to OSU.

Gravatar As much talk about offense as we've had I'm curious to see what the defense is going to look like. I'm excited to see what an aggressive approach and a hopefully smaller-gut d-line can produce, not just on the field but in terms of recruiting if we can get some early success.

Does anyone else wonder what having 4 former coordinators on the staff is going to look like? Hopefully there won't be any philosophical butting of the heads...

Anyone watch Stanford or WMU extensively with Schafer as the DC?

Gravatar why does everyone have such lowered expectations for next year? Our offense may have some question marks at the QB position and the O-line will be largely untested, but our backfield isnt too bad (the fumbling issued with Grady could be a concern) and our recievers will be more than servicable. I think that Matthews may have breakout year. He was good as our third reciever, played consitently throughout the year, and seemed to avoid having bad drops. We'll also hopefully get at least a handful of cheap TDs due to the surprise element.

The defense should be somewhat solid. We have a better situation going into the year at CB and S than we did last year. The D-Line will be similiar to last year and while the LB situation may have question marks, I think we'll be at least servicable. If defense wins games (and it) does, I just don't see the predictions of losing or 5 (regular season) loss season coming true. IMO, 3 to 4 regular season losses is about right.

Gravatar im pretty optimistic about our D, returning the line, morgan trent and dwarr, having young linebackers will be tough but i think the D will suprise people this year especially with Barwis we're going to be mean

Gravatar Sorry if I am late to the party on this one, but it is Perry a done deal to USC now?

Gravatar Sorry if I am late to the party on this one, but it is Perry a done deal to USC now?

General concensus is not at all. We'll know more after his visit this weekend.

Gravatar i agree with you bgh, i can see losses at penn state, wisconsin, possibly ND and unfortunatley tosu again

Gravatar well to me, and i may be wrong, im not being recruited by any nfl head coaches, the 3-4 is the best way to protect marginally slow defenses...

since i am an odd front guy anyway, and grew up on the 50 defense. the 3-4 is the logical way to incorporate the 50 slant, and still be able to spread out with people who dont run te's

and 4-3 finds its self stretch out real bad if there is no te.

where as a 3-4 turns into a 50 against a pro team...

do you want your pursuit players (who arent very fast) to attack the edge from outside the tackle box (3-4) or inside the tackle box (4-3) to me you can ONLY run the 4-3 if you have two amazing olb, to play that will and buck, becasue they are c gap players, and have to pursue sweeps, from inside the tackle box. and you have to have a hard nosed mike lb to play b to b, and scrap.

in the 3-4 i can protect weaker players a little more, and have the flexablilty to move into a odd stack 3-3 or a 50 slant, with little movement

Gravatar im nervous about the safety position...

Brandent was one of our best defensive players last year...

Gravatar I think the D will carry the team through a few games early on. I'm not too concerned with them. That is also based on the theory our LBs will progress better than they did during the season.

Offense is still a huge question mark for me. The Oline scares the crap out of me. The receivers outside of Matthews have so few catches I can count them on one hand. Our backs aren't the best in pass protection (yet). We don't have a QB comfortable in the offense (yet). Those are some pretty big question marks.

Our schedule is always a crap shoot too. ND has some talent, what will they do with it? Wisconsin is always overachieves their talent. State will beat us one day, same thing with Penn State. Both return several players (penn state loses the worst part of their team). Utah is no slouch as a nonconference team. They're better than a directional Michigan team at least.

I still think 8-4 is possible, but we'd be 7-5 before 9-3.

Gravatar brandent also got destroyed by chris wells

Gravatar I know I'm a homer but I'm not that worried about our o-line. One paper, our oline in '07 was supposed to be much better than WVU's, however, against OSU we looked like the worst oline in college while WVU's line dominated OK.

Gsimms, would you be able to shed any light as to why this is the case? Is my lack of fear justified at all?

Gravatar the big hope im having, is that alot of these also-rans that are currently on the team, that were big time recruits, will flurish this spring and summer with good technique oriented coaching. and next years team will showcase all the 3 and 4 star tallents that have not played a down, becasue they havent improved to date....

Gravatar @gsimms

Would you somewhat agree that o-lines have trouble blocking the 3 man front, as well? It seems when we faced a team that lined up 4 DLs, we were always a little more clear on assignments and things got kind of clogged up anyway. Against the odd fronts we'd run into more confusion on who is supposed to find LBs, double teams, etc. and that was magnified if they did a lot of shifting and movement of the backers. Thoughts?

Gravatar brandent wasnt 100% at the end of the year...

you will see him playing on sundays...

Gravatar Did Henne really say Threet is going to transfer again?

Gravatar I just think the oline is way too thin at this point. We're losing 4 starters. Most of these guys will be sophomores it looks like. It seems like every year there is a senior dlineman at 3 big10 schools that become dominant (st dic, gholston, that tackle from Northwestern). Their untestedness (word?) is what bothers me knowing that there will be tested several times throughout the season.

Gravatar @ chitown

good read, talent comes first is the conclusion - so our obsessions with recruiting are justified - it's the MOST important piece to success.

Gravatar I think the experience with Beilein is a place where concern can arise. Like he talked about, it's different when you're introducing all 12 guys on the team to the system, as opposed to initiating the 3-4 freshman. Especially when it's such a radical change.

Granted the sports are different, and the relative talent level left over in football is much higher, but if all 11 guys on the football field are learning a new language throughout the entire spring/fall the chances of thinking vs. playing just go up that much more. Hopefully the advantages that RR's offense brings in terms of getting the athletes in space and sideline calls can offset that for this year, but I'm going to set my bar pretty low until I see what it actually looks like.

Anyone follow Florida closely when Urban transitioned? I recall Leak struggling for awhile and a bit of a struggle for that team to even put up points, and he was much more seasoned than Threet is going to be (that might work to our advantage though as Leak was likely having to break a lot of old habits).

Gravatar new post up

Gravatar sure dex. the 50 defense was created to stop runing games, for that very reason... also, i always thought, if i could destroy a center, and cause a double team there, everything else had to be adjusted by the offense... there is no more important position in football then a dt.

about the oline...
i thought we were terrible technique wise and quickenss wise for several years. if michigan can still get the top oline recruits that it has always got, and combine that now with good technique coaching, you will see michigan offensive linemen really dominating...

if Jake Long would have been properly trained, and i think you will see this when he has a few years in the nfl, he would have been one of the very best olineman of all time, anywhere...

Gravatar Give toledo man and big gay heart a fucking break...

Gravatar gs,

You're points about the backers in the 3-4 are interesting. I assumed that you would need a very strong/versatile strongside backer supported by a versatile backside end. I like the idea of not needing those inside backers needing to be much more then tackling machines. Patriots have really gotten some mileage out of Seau and Bruschi.

Every defense has that one position that you would like to place your best athlete at. I don't know what that would be in the 3-4.

is simplifying that defense a problem for the players? That's kind of the problem I could see with running it. Trying to do too much. There has to be that temptation. I know that was a problem for Hermann when he was here. He threw more at the players then they could handle.

Gravatar Michigan performs roughly where it should, given recruiting rankings.

this would bring gingell back...or at least MDan.

Gravatar next

ill comment on this in the new post, so we dont keep this one alive...

Gravatar So I nominated you for Best Big Ten blog and best community. Good luck!
