Gravatar no way we finish lower than 2nd in the Directors cup.

Gravatar you want somethign stupid like broccoli - men's tennis news - then shut up. i'll kill you.

Gravatar I actually watched UM softball in that world series a couple of years ago. I thought it was pretty fun to watch. Girls softball is actually more entertaining than baseaball sometimes.

Gravatar ....one thing even OSU & UofM can find mutual ground on is anything expounding the vitures of Charley Cheesbuger...

http://www.chicagotribune.com/ sp...0,2252716.story

Throw this one up to Domers who come trolling about Charley's "thugless" approach.....

Gravatar Obviously Weis isn't cheating now. If he were, wouldn't they win? If he is cheating now, he's just God awful at all things life.

Gravatar Hey, Mikael Samuelsson and Dan Cleary, feel free to actually show up tonight and play, if its not too much trouble for you guys.

Gravatar Samuelsson is garbage and can't ever be relied upon in the clutch. I've been advocating his trade all season. He makes too much money to be as pitiful as he is. Cleary just isn't the same player since he busted his face. It is sad to see because he was great in the playoffs last year.

Gravatar I've been linked... through maizenbrew.

Wichita State is also ranked above the baseball mason dixon, as well as Nebraska. St. John's field is pretty crappy and located in Queens, NY which makes it automatically not a place I would want to host a regional. Their average attendance at games is around 300, as compared to Michigan's over 2000. I don't see how we could possibly lose the regional bid unless this weekend goes horribly, catastrophically, unspeakably, ridiculously, unimaginably wrong.

Gravatar Outside of that one play saturday in the first period where Sammy knocked the puck down with his stick and had a great chance on Turco, both Cleary and Sammy have disappeared over the past two games.

It's looking like Franzen may be out ofr the playoffs. The Wings need this second line to step up, for Chelios to remeber how to change lines, and for brett Lebda to stop sucking. i hate to say it, but Lebda turned in a Lillja-esque performance on Saturday.

Lets go wings.

Gravatar Keegan
Softball? I dunno, some of those guys ..er... ah girls.. take themselves too seriously, ya'kno what I mean?
-do yourself a favor -check out the girls volleyball teams ...best uni's in all of college sports

Gravatar i liek softball girls. they have a rough and tumble twinkle to them. there's nothing wrong with that. although the chatter is a bit irritating.

Gravatar BGH,

Some of them are fat.

Gravatar good point keegan. if fat boy is cheating now he's doing a pisspoor job of it

Gravatar Jay, but could some of them (fat or not) could kick your ass? That's the question.

Gravatar Jay:

So? There's way worse things than chubby girls. I'm not saying I'm into that scene but it adds flavor to the competition. Especially when the beastly first baseman goes hog wild and starts jacking riseballs into left field.

Gravatar I'm not very witty...can someone please describe the "chatter" that one of those chubby softball chicks might use in the sack?

Gravatar I have a small crush on Sam Findlay, size be damned. And, much like Gsimms' five year old, she could probably kick my ass.

Gravatar BGH
-- I 've know many UM coeds and from that knowledge could see them fielding quite a decent team... but "rough and tumble twinkle" doesn't come to mind- ...unless it's late in the evening and they've been buyin' the Molsons.....(lots of'em)

Gravatar although the chatter is a bit irritating.

I wholeheartedly agree. Just last night i was doing a softball player and she's all "HeybatterHeybatterHeybatterHeybatter!".

So then I got all nervous and couldn't get it up and she's all "Pitcher's got a rubber arm!Pitcher's got a rubber arm!"

Eventually I just gave up on the home run and settled for the groundrule double.

Gravatar Ninja
-don't feel too bad ...you see how many broken bats this season? ...then they go into a viagra commercial

Gravatar as big of a baseball fan as i am, i went to 3 times as many volleyball games. i can't remember the DS's name anymore (not that the name was important), but her ass was awesome.

Gravatar I'm not into the whole smothering/facesitting thing, so, I can't understand how anyone could be attracted to fat chicks.

Gravatar See? that's what I'm talkin' bout!

Gravatar the problem w/ fat chicks is you have to roll 'em flour then fuck the wet spots... and the price of flour just keeps going up

Gravatar Jay dislikes fat girls and nate robertson. Anything else we should add to the list?

Gravatar Jay, one of the undeniable facts of life: fat chicks try harder.

@Afro: Lol- I had already posted that when I saw your request.

Gravatar Has anyone else heard of Taylor Swift?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tay...ki/ Taylor_Swift

Well as I was checking out CNN a few minutes ago I saw this:

http://img137.imageshack.us/img1...72/ swiftof7.jpg

Gravatar Did Jay stop hating Grilli? I mean just because he was traded shouldn't quell the hate. I still hate Lugo to this day, even if he is holding the Red Sox back.

Gravatar anyone else notice the jackass on the track at the end of the 4x100 relay almost get run over then freak out?

Gravatar Bgh,

Add Lung Rot Leyland, Todd Jones, Samuelsson, Cleary, Shitfield, John Navvare and Flip Saunders to the list and we're all set.

For Now.

Lebda and Chelios are on thin ice....

Gravatar As a country music fan, Taylor Swift, I will help you with that wet....

Gravatar My apologies if this has been posted before, but I just came across one of the most impressive recruiting videos I've ever seen for an OL. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Morgan Moses, 5-star OL from Richmond, VA:

http://www.rivals.com/video.asp? ...vidtype=prospec

Gravatar Mark May? Gary Danielson?

Gravatar FA,

Grilli has a lifetime membership to the "Hate" Hall of Fame.

I'd still like to fight Kevin Mchale and its been 20 years since he was relevant.

Gravatar I'm a huge fan of Cleary's ability to gain the puck than come to a complete stop with his back turned to everybody. Extremely innovative puckwork in my book. I don't know what you all are talking about. The results speak for themselves.

Oh wait...

Gravatar Huss,

Post of the day thus far.

Gravatar Don't know much about her "butt" I certainly could -tail'er swift

Gravatar Flip Saunders is the white Mike brown.

I actually like him. He's not the best coach in the world, but he's better than Doc Rivers and Byron Scott.

Gravatar @Ninja

Sadly, that's kinda what I had pictured, but maybe dirtier. WTF is wrong with me? Every time I picture it, I start chuckling. I better stop before someone asks me what I'm laughing at.

Gravatar so I'm buttfucking this softball chick and the whole time she's yelling "good eye! good eye!"

Gravatar Comparing anybody to Mike Brown is an insult to the compare-ee. The dude is literally coaching the Cavs only because he's black and management seems to think only black coaches can connect with Bron Bron.

But Saunders is awful in his own right. Props on the hair, though.

Gravatar I'm happy the #1 tradition will remain unchanged.

Gravatar Jay

Isn't Lebda a domer? That should send him to Jay Hatred Purgatory right off the bat. Every time he screws up I go "Domer No!!!"

Gravatar is this thing on?

Gravatar Lebda is a domer. We're reminded of this every Wings game, unfortunately.

Gravatar But it could always be worse: Lillja. I cringe at the thought.

Gravatar caup

you'll never draw that walk with only 2 balls

Gravatar Flip Saunders is an embarrestment to Polacks everywhere.

I say this as a one quarter Polack myself.

Gravatar It's a tough call. Chelios has been Lilja-esque this entire playoffs. At least takes up more space on the ice. That's about the only difference between the two right now.

And I love Rafalski, but the fucking guy needs to learn how to just clear the puck out of the zone instead of trying to make an outlet and control it while Dallas is applying pressure. It's embarrassing to note how many clearing attempts failed the past few games.

Gravatar I feel bad for Mike Brown. The world is so big and so confusing.

Gravatar Slightly offtopic: But is there really any need for a basketball coach anymore? Save the for the rare Phil Jackson or Greg Popovich, I literally haven't seen a scripted play run by any team 98% of the time. And these guys have no respect of the players - especially guys like Flip, whom I hilariously saw get his high-5 rejected during a timeout last week. These guys are pointless.

Gravatar Raffie has been trying to get too cute the past couple games. I was especially scared in the second period on saturday when he had the puck behind the net and coughed it up directly in front of Ozzie.

Gravatar Khan just reported that Hudler's been moved up to the 2nd line. Sammy moves down to the 3rd line, and Maltby down to the 4th line.
Chelios has a lingering leg injury that's been bothering him to the point where Lilja may play in his place tonight.
My fear is that Huds is a defensive liability, but anything is better than Sammy's worthless ass.

Gravatar Why is Phil Jackson hereladed as a great coach? It's pretty easy to look good when you ONLY coach teams which feature the league's best player. The triangle offense is common sense. The guy sucks, he was thoroughly outcoached by Larry Brown in the 2004 Finals.

You guys are too hard on Flip. He's coached really well this post-season. Yes, he does, occasioanlly, put some bone-headed lineups on the floor, ie: stucky, ratliff, maxiell, afflalo, and hayes at the same time - but he trusts his guys and seems to have a better handle on keeping them motivated this year.

Gravatar Alan Trammel thinks Greg Popvich needs to use Proactiv Solutions.

Gravatar Morgan Moses for President!

He could get some more oil out of the Saudi's. If not he would pancake them!

I hope Michigan's is on his short list?

Gravatar Thanks for the update, caup! I love the move, and Khan made a lot of sense of it in the column the other day.

Huds can't push anybody around, but I'll be damned if he doesn't make more happen on offense better than anyone not named Hank or Pavel. He's been a lone bright spot lately, and his shot will be a terrific asset - since Flip, Cleary and Sammy were all allergic to shooting in the playoffs.

Gravatar Lilja in the lineup = game 7 Wednsday night at the Joe.

I can't wait for the multiple turnovers in front of Ozzie tonight.

Shoot me now.

Gravatar bgh, fair enough on Phil. But I can't agree with anything said about Flip. It clearly looks like the players have their own thing going and Flip is just along for the ride. If we win, it'll be in spite of him, not because(as was the case with Larry Brown).

Gravatar At this point, I wouldn't care if Maltby were benched. He's been useless for 3 seasons now.

Gravatar Honestly, tonight I would just give extended shifts to the top 4 defensive lines. is it the best plan for success in the next round? no. but if babs keeps running the Lebda/Chelios/Lillja debacle out there, they won't be a next round.

Gravatar *Not lines, players. ashDFKL

Gravatar That's what we've been doing. I don't think Cheli or Lebda average more than 14 a night. Rafalski and Lidstrom both rack up 25. Stuart and Kronwall both are over 20. They can't do much more. Even with minimal playing time, these guys put forth the maximum allowable suck.

Gravatar Flip had the unenviable task of 1.) following a coaching force of nature and 2) communicating with a very veteran team that had a lot of play off success. Flip as the coach of the Hornets/Blazers/Sixers > Flip as the coach of the Pisons/Spurs/Mavs. His personality has hardened a bit, but you need a real hardass with experience like Popovich, Jackson, Riley, Larry Brown or even Karl to stay on guys like Sheed, Rip, Ben (before he left) and to a lesser extent Chauncey.

That having been said, they're still four wins against a beatable team away from the Finals. I hope so much that Rivers subs in Cassell when Stuckey's in. Stuck will break both of Cassell's ankles in six places.

Gravatar 1. GO WINGS!

2. @caup and @troll - Thx for the chuckle.

3. @bgh I hate Phyllis Jackson. He looks EXACTLY like Colonel Sanders. Google it.

4. Phyllis just told me to look at his rings, and STFU.

5. Did you guys know that Lebda went to Notre Dame??

6. Maltby = "Dead Weight" (What exactly DOES he do?)

7. If Boston meets LA in the finals, is it possible to root for both teams to lose?

8. Somebody please shoot Paul Pierce for me.

Gravatar Zibokowski was a boxer.

Gravatar @caup: goodeye = top-end hilarity.

Gravatar When Cheli is healthy he's still a solid 3rd line d-man. Smart with the puck and wins a lot of battles in his own end. The problem is that he is currently HURT and when players are HURT they LOOK like they SUCK. It's the coach's job to SIT a player if he can't play to his normal abilities.
But yes, Lilja scares the shit out of me.
I'd give my left nut to know what's REALLY going on with Franzen.
With the Mule out, Filppula with a bum knee, and Cleary useless with that goddamn face-mask, it's getting pretty fucking hard to find more scoring. I've long since given up on Sammy. So yeah, we need guys like Hudler, Homer, and a wild card like McCarty or Helm to step up and bang in a huge unexpected goal.

Gravatar I'm not sure there are many "great" basketball coaches, but you can sure spot the shitty ones - look at Doc Rivers. He gives all of Eddie House's minutes (who is pretty effective for a backup PG) to Sam Cassell, despite the fact that they won 67 games with House as a the backup PG all year. Cassell can't play, and blames everyone else every time he turns the ball over. Rather than letting Rondo handle the ball, and drive and dish; he has Pierce as the primary ball-handler, with Bron guarding him - something that, until game 7, made Pierce almost always fail. This was stupid because Pierce is a good shooter, and can knock down jumpers that Rondo sets him up for, AND because Rondo can't shoot, so if you don't let him handle the ball, there's literally no point in having him on the floor.

Gravatar Cassell can't play, and blames everyone else every time he turns the ball over.

Since Rivers blames his players for everything, maybe that's why he likes Cassell. Seriously, that guy has the worst body language I've ever seen in a coach. Call against the Celts by a ref? Storm around back and forth on the sideline. Turnover by Rondo? Stand with hands on hips and smile smugly. 24 second clock violation? Gesticulate wildly. Ass. Hole.

Gravatar aj hawk married brady quinns sister.

formerly,

i'm catching some of the Pur-Ill series on BTN. i don't see Ill going anywhere in the tourney. Pur is killing them. i'd say OSU & IU win the 1st rnd and we take care of IU in the 2nd. PSU & OSU will advance thru the losers bracket as purdue takes care of osu. not sure if osu's pitching will get them far enough. psu is a bit of a wild card.

the weather in A2 looks to be perfect starting thurs, and not too bad wed... i think cold & windy, but no rain. memorial day weekend is perfect for this event.

It's that gay little goatee that does it.

Gravatar MRG - agree totally. I really think that River legitimately hates Rondo. Also, Rivers fucking sells out his players to the media to make himself look better - the Hawks scored on three consecutive back-door screens, and when the media asked what the problem was, he basically said the problem was the Leon Powe was an idiot. Way to go coach.

Gravatar bgh,

On the Phil Jackson thing. I absolutely agree. My buddy used to try to tell me how complex the triangle offense was when we were in HS. Then we looked it up, not real complicated. He's never spoken of it since.

Gravatar Ninja-

One of the worst things in life is a fat chick who thinks she's thin.

One dead beached whale experience is one too many.

True story.

Gravatar I love when a fat chick wears a sash around her waste to hide that she's fat. Yeah, the arms jiggling, kankle toting, and charging rhinoceros thighs don't give it away. My buddies gf started getting large and one time she was wearing that and just came out and told us it was to hide her gut. I asked him if she thought it was a fun-house mirror, cause if it was, it wasn't working.

Gravatar bluewolverine-
Worse is the formerly hot chick who thinks she's still God's gift to men. She acts ridiculously arrogant as you stumble around trying to figure out what you're missing... until someone points out that yeah, she really is that ugly (+stupid, since she was once hot. hotness is variable, but stupidity never changes).

Gravatar Doc Rivers has so much talent on his team and he can't win one game on the road. Celtics are lucky, but Rivers has had the worst teams the past few years even with a few talented players. He is a shitty, shitty coach.

Then again, you might be able to blame the other coaches for not being able to win one game on the road against the Celtics in the playoffs. Ah, fuck the NBA, fuck Isiah Thomas, and fuck the Pistons. "Detroit Basketball" is the worst, stupidest cheer in the history of sports. It makes "O-H" actually sound smart.

Gravatar Tim, if by O-H, you mean "O-H-H-O," which is pure genius and I totally see your point

Gravatar So who else accomplished absolutely nothing at work today?

Gravatar I was at Wrigley this weekend, and there was this woman - about 40, and completely hooched out. Huge fake tits, mini skirt, low cut top, etc. With two friends, dressed similarly, minus the boobs, plus fake noses. Facially, they were all beat - you could tell that they probably were once attractive, but those days were long past.

These women were cracking peanut shells, and throwing them at me and my two friends. Each time we turned around, they gave a flirty smile and a wave. You could tell that they were used to being able to get away with being annoying at some point, by virtue of being hot. Now, they were just annoying. My friend stood up, and basically yelled everything I just typed at them, and one of them (who was really drunk) actually started crying. Then security kicked them out.

Gravatar That's mean Chitown. Just mean.

I mean you didn't even eat their peanuts. Or them.

To Hell with you.

Gravatar JB Shugarts kind of looks like Anthony Jr. Either way, he looks like a douchebag.

Gravatar Ha, cougars.

Gravatar chitown,

I wish everyone I know was you.

Gravatar With home heating costs on the rise, We will all turn to the dark-side. Fat chicks give you heat in the winter and shade in the summer. That is all....

Gravatar @ chitownblue 00

I don't think there's a cap on 5 star talent, but over the past few years you don't see more than 30 or so 5 stars. I think if everyone is so damn good, there could be more, but that hasn't been the case...makes me thinks that scout and rivals do limit 5 star rankings.

Gravatar I've always kind of thought, overtly or not, that recruiting rankings were based on that year more than a strict definition of 5 star, 4 star, etc.

What I mean is that in any year, there will be 30 5 star players. In a strong year, there might be a number of 4 stars that could have been 5s had they been in another class. And, therefore, in another year there might be 10 5 stars that would have been 4 stars in a stronger year.

Evaluating that theory is out of my realm of ability, so whatever I guess.

Gravatar dex, this is a late post for you.

Gravatar morgan moses, but can he pass protect? maybe he lacks top end pass protection. holy jebus, I hope we have an offer out to him and he's mildly interested. I'd vote for RR to pull a tresselbowdencarol to get that guy. morals be damned.

talk about pancakes.

Gravatar I was at a bar Saturday night and a fat chick and a hot chick were hanging out together. I gets real friendly with 'em, tlakin' sex and shit, and yeah, the three of us did a couple shots, and three way french kisses. Sometimes the fatties have their benefits.
I would have invited them over, but it would have pissed my wife off. It was fun though.

Gravatar Hey, on this Morgan Moses thing, Scout doesn't have him listed as a Michigan prospect, or as holding an offer from Michigan.

Gravatar I say daht- you say sook!

DAHT-

Gravatar GAME OVER 3-0

Gravatar Franzen who?

Gravatar I love the announcers are so full of......praise for the team that is leading.......

Gravatar Name change......Ufer used to call him this

Gravatar Seriously, Brian... more football, knock it off with the crappy non-revenue sports already.

Gravatar Damn it! I'm glad they're winning but I had to miss the first period and all the fun.

Gravatar TBS-

Sounds like you had a better Saturday night than I.

After getting rejected by a married fox I got another psychotic text msg from my ex.

Hooray!

Gravatar Great. I missed all three Wings first period goals.

Also, I just saw Odell Thurman's name flash across the "ticker" on ESPN, and it struck me as odd that no one is blaming his behavior on Mark Richt....yet everybody wants to blame Rich Rod for Pacman and Chris Henry like he's raised them both since they were just wee little thugs growing up in the hood. Like there's a youtube video out there of RR trying to teach little Pac Pac how to "make it rain".

Gravatar Bray-lay keeps it real real. Now someone has to step up. A.C.'s number must be honored and earned. Only true warlords should be clad in such cloth. Thank you Braylon.

Gravatar Afro-

SEC players and coaches are all fine, upstanding gentlemen who would not look out of place dining at her Majesty the Queen's right hand.

Remember, if he was in the SEC, Randy Moss would be lucky to play #3 WR at Kentucky.

Gravatar @DanK,

There's a reason Purdue is #2 in the league. Illinois lead the league in team batting average. I have them beating OSU in the first round because Shuck is on short rest. OSU has to start Hale or a pitcher on short rest. I don't think they go the route of short rest. Illinois should be able to hit fairly well off Hale. In Hale's outing against the Illini earlier in the year, Hale was betrayed by his teams defense. He gave up 7 runs, but only 3 were earned. He struggled in his last start as well. Illinois's #1 starter Manson is pretty good too. His outint against OSU went fairly well during the season. 2 runs, 1 earned over 6. I don't like Illinois's second starter (Martin). He's going to go up against Purdue (if my predictions are correct) and get shelled. Even if they win and play Michigan, he's going to get rocked. What does work out for them is their third starter is Haig. I think his stuff is probably better than Martin, he's just had less chances to prove it. My bracket has Haig going against OSU's DeLucia. I really had to think hard about this game. DeLucia is probably the best 4 starter in the league. It came down to bull pen depth, which I felt favored Illinois. OSU is going to have to hit the bullpen a few times before this game as they drudge through the losers bracket. Illinois's offense should be able to get to them. I have Michigan beating Purdue, which means Purdue will rematch Illinois. Shaw for Illinois was tagged for 11 runs against Purdue in the season. I imagine they'll pull him before it gets that bad, but I expect the same general result.

RECAP: Illinois has the benefit of a lucky draw on opponents and their pitching staff. They have no chance against Purdue.

Gravatar gotdammit it's nice to see the Wings kicking anus again.

Gravatar Red Wings bitches.

We need not say more.

Gravatar jeff smoker went 29/45 for 7 TDs in an AFL game hahah

Gravatar I heard Newsome visited PSU this weekend and is second guessing his UM commitment. Sounds like the "gentlemen's agreement" is out the door. Hey, son think about it real hard...One name comes to mind when thinking about PSU's latest QB's the enormously successful...Anthony Morelli. Also remember to bring a knife or a machete to breakfast, lunch and dinner. You never know which teammate will try to cut your limbs off if you take his cell phone cover.

p.s. Red Wings look really good right now.

Gravatar Ahhh, the AFL. So Sparties and Chippewas can feel like pros, too.

Gravatar Yes, we are but mere peasants in the great serfdom that is: THE SEC. I should have 40 lashes for even thinking that vile thought. Now if you'll kindly excuse me, I must get back to tilling my Lords fields, by torchlight.

Gravatar well, i'm clearly not ready to analyze the 3rd & 4th pitchers in the rotations of the 3rd-4th best teams in the B10, so i'll defer to you. it should be a good tourney, and i'm expecting M to at least make it to the final game. hopefully, i'll get a chance to catch a couple games thurs, friday, maybe sunday.

Gravatar Hey, if Newsome wants to go to PSU that's fine by me. We'll just go get Tate Forcier and hang 30+ on the Fighting JoePas while our front 7 turn Kev-O into a concussion case by his senior year.

Gravatar @Waymen

"fuck Isiah Thomas, and fuck the Pistons."

Brash, Waymen, too brash...

Totally agree with your take that Doc Rivers is a lousy coach, I think he is a better coach than Mike Brown though.

Gravatar I'm actually going through every at bat for M for the last 3 weeks of the season plus all our head to head with possible teams in the first game.

I went through each of the potential starters for each team playing wednesday, tracked through each of their last 3 games plus their game against the opponent if it wasn't in that stretch. I got to watch all the games this last weekend that were going on after 5pm as well. I still haven't gotten to Purdue yet, so I'm totally oblivious to how I think they will really perform. I think they, like Illinois are also set up in a pretty nice situation (minus facing Putnam in our second game).

Gravatar Fuck those Pasta Hut commercials, has anyone else seen this shit?

Gravatar Wings aboot to close out the series, its aboot damn time!

Gravatar Either you're anti-pepperoni or I haven't seen the commercials.

And Fuck Isiah? HA! We're coming for your boys Waymen. We're gonna make KG cry like the little girl that Pierce is.

What they don't show you in that commercial is the end, where everyone in that restaurant goes home and slits their wrists after realizing they've been conned by fucking PIZZA HUT. (I've seen a bootleg copy of the director's cut).

Also, I was watching the Hornets-Spurs game tonight, and they showed Forrest Whitaker in the crowd...let me be the first to nominate him, and Kobe Bryant into the "Lazy Eyelid" Hall of Fame.

Handlejacked, bitches!! It's pretty obvious. Why in God's name would I say that Newsome is going to a school he was never interested in? Like I'm really worried about Coach Methuselah stealing him from us. King Newsome (remember, I started the Newsome mafia so I can call him what I want) is going to Michigan in hopes of becoming the next Tom Brady or Tim Waymen.

I hate the NBA. I would like for the Celtics beat down on the Pistons because I dislike the Pistons so much (sorry, state of Michigan) and because I am from Boston, but otherwise fuck it, man.

Gravatar I missed the other jackings. What an honor to handlejacked by an antagonistic, delusional, racist State Penn fan.

Gravatar The Red Wings won and will play for the Stanley Cup! AWESOME!!!!!!

Gravatar Is the point of clueless that he has no idea what's really going on?

Shouldn't that post be more along the lines of: "Too bad the wings lost to the North Stars, I really thought Mike Vernon was going to get them to the Super Bowl."

Gravatar I really liked the JHS clueless more than the impostor.

Gravatar Q . When a former player like yourself sees a player (Justin Boren), who had harsh comments about the new staff, transfer to Ohio State, what do you think?

A . At first, I was like, 'Wow, he's talking about family values.' And sometimes you use key words, and I read that, and I was like, 'Damn, this thing is just blowing up.' So I came up here (to Michigan) and I watched them practice. I was in the weight room working out, and two players started talking to me, and in general conversation they said, 'This guy, Desmond, was a complainer. He complained about workouts, he complained about practices.' And this is what they told me: 'Really, we're better without him.' I said, 'Wow, that's a different side of the story I hadn't even thought of.' I knew they were training in a way they've never trained before.

So then he went to Ohio State, and I was like, 'Well, how loyal can this guy be? All the colleges available to him, and he goes to Ohio State?' I talked to Rich, and Rich told me he talked to him, and Rich said (Boren) never was really happy no matter what they did. And Rich said, 'Desmond, I've got to do things my way.'

I tell people all the time, this is college football. It's not tennis, it's not golf. At the end of the day, Rich is going to do things his way. He's going to separate the people who can take it from the people who can't take it.

Gravatar Afro,

Gravatar Whatever you say, lil' animal.

Gravatar I love how Desmond said "He's a seemingly intelligent guy" about Herbstreit. And then he refutes everyone's "common knowledge" that he was Herbie's source. Yet another reason why Des is the Original Ninjaback.

Gravatar http://sebaseball.rivals.com/con....asp? CID=807092

Only regional projection put out last week has us hosting CAL, EMU, and South Carolina

Gravatar Desmond Howard mentions Les Miles, which compels me to say something. First, RR is a much better coach. Second, I am convinced that Michigan will win a NC under him within the next 10 years. Maybe two. Maybe one within 5 years. Whatever the case, there are a few teams that I think are prime candidates to win an NC within the next 5-7 years, and they include Alabama and Michigan (kind of Bleacher Report-ish, but bear with me). I wouldn't be as certain with Les Miles.

USC will probably win another because it is USC, and OSU will probably make the NC game at least once with all the talent it will have the next few years (unless RR makes Tressel his Cooper) but will lose to an SEC team. Arizona St will also be a contender, mark my words. Erickson will easily recruit talent to ASU and they will beat USC. Agree? Disagree? Discuss.

Oh, and I forgot Notre Dame. Notre Dame will beat the Irish and win a national championship.

Gravatar Aaron Fitt projecting that both Michigan and St. John's get regionals:

http://www.baseballamerica.com/t...008/ 266123.html

Gravatar FWIW-
Herbstreit is not all that welcome these days in the Buckeye camp either- (myself included) but these guys are "corporate guys" w/ ESPN-(Herbsteit more so)...maybe some backstabbin' going on amongst the two-but before Howard can even come close to Herbie -he's gotta learn to speak english
--Howard>Herbie as athlete; Herbie>Howard as sports commentator...

Gravatar go pistons, screw them boston jerkoffs.
go red wings, screw pittsburgh. go forge steel. or something.
...tigers, stop effing around and start playing.

Gravatar was a Cavs fans-> now a Pistons fan('cept for R Wallace)..... F' Boston on all planes....

Gravatar Troll, I don't think it's backstabbing going on, I think it's Desmond clearing his name more so than anything. Remember, everyone just assumed that Desmond was Herbie's source. As far as Desmond learning to speak English, he's not so bad. He's no Herbie but then again he's no Terrell Pryor either.

Gravatar desmond is better dressed than herbie. i think desmond does a great job. he's articulate enough to do the job, imo. he's certainly no buck showalter.

i think jalen does a fantastic job, too. plus he's really well dressed.

dressing well counts for somthing. did you see jalen's bow tie the other day? it looked fantastic.

Gravatar Honestly, I like Desmond and all, but doesn't anyone remember when he broke down the Holiday Bowl featuring Texas and Cal - despite the real game being TAMU and Cal, and then attributing it to a "verbal misstep", despite the fact he didn't just leave the AM off, he analyzed the game as if the Longhorns were playing and not the Aggies?

Gravatar re: wings.

Yesterday we were talking about Sammy being pretty much useless, but it looks like dropping him down to the third line paid some divedends with both Drake and Draper getting goals.

Gravatar Is it just me or is Herbstreit looking a little jowly... he better lay off the steak fries.

Gravatar TP is enrolled in Comp 101 and by the time he leaves OSU- he'll sound just like Desmond....

Gravatar judging by TP's ears, that boy spent waaaaay too much time in the birth canal.

Gravatar if he'd a been any faster on delivery he'd have SEC speed and at LSU

Gravatar I've noticed I've been getting really picky with writing styles lately... First I critique Varsity Blue's arguments on the State of Michigan Football. Now I just want to bitch on how I hate Aaron Fitt as a writer. I generally can't stand his columns or his blog. His Q&A sessions are generally his best written pieces as they don't have him typing more than one paragraph at a time.

His idea of a dual northern regional is intriguing nonetheless. I seriously doubt the validity of a St. Johns hosting scenario. They just don't garner enough attendance during the regular season. Michigan attracts nearly seven times as many fans per game. St Johns barely has an average attendance of 300. Michigan routinely has over 2000 in attendance. The only benefit St Johns has is its location in New York. It is playing the same role as the Syracuse rumor as a target for Big10 expansion in football. It may draw in some of the New York City viewers, but not be a huge net positive for the league/sport.

Gravatar Congratulations to the U-M lacrosse team! I played with Coach John Paul back in the day on the club team, and he was a great guy. Well deserved by the boys!!!

Gravatar Tim,

I would be surprised, not shocked, if UM won a NC in 5. I agree with all of that. I think Tressell will start to realize that he needs to tweak some things to compete with SEC speed. He's a good coach and I think he's savvy enough to know that he needs to change with the times. Oh, and he's a dirty rotten cheater (almost forgot that). USC will win until Pete dies, which will be in 300+ years. I don't know about ASU only because I don't know if Denny will be around long enough. They just signed a QB from my HS and he isn't that good. He was a commit to Gonzaga for hoops but he's 6'7" and only average athletically and I know at summer camps he got eaten up by top talent. Football is probably his sport but I don't know if he's good enough for ASU. I know I'd go just for the ass. After two more seasons, ND will be playing D1AA and losing to the University of Montana in the opening round of the playoffs. Write that down.

Gravatar "Ahhh, the AFL. So Sparties and Chippewas can feel like pros, too."

What's that? Sorry, I was busy making millions of dollars playing through injuries and winning the Super Bowl for my team...

P.S. Tom Brady is my bitch.

Gravatar From Varsity Blue:

Overall, there is a near 50-50 split between Wolverine and Spartan fans in the Great Lakes State.

While having two popular schools in the state may not explain why talent is willing to leave entirely (and go to USC, for example), it certainly helps explain why there is no allegiance to a particular school. With no ties to UofM, Michigan's players don't feel obligated to give Michigan more of a shot. This is not the case in Ohio, where nearly every baby's first outfit is either scarlet or gray.

In Michigan, the allegiance is not to one college team, but to one pro city, Detroit.

He overlooks some things. First, I would imagine that UM is more popular than MSU, but I am not from the state of Michigan, having only gone to school at UM. Second, he kind of overlooks the UM fans in Ohio. There is a large regional component to the rivalry. It's not just MI vs. OH; some towns in northern OH are divided between Blue and OSU, kind of like Croatia and Serbia. That said, OSU faces some tough competition from UM for recruits although it definitely have the upper edge. I know he's talking about Michigan by and large, but there are people in MI and OH who live and die Michigan football, those who are born in Michigan clothing. Otherwise, it is a decent assessment.

Gravatar If we're airing petty grievances about baseball writing, mine is that everyone, including Brian, is giving Michigan credit for taking two of three over Northwestern, when we are still playing four games in a Big Ten weekend series this year and Michigan took three of four. Yes, there are those who mock the 7-inning doubleheaders, but I think it is a different sort of challenge and worthy of bothering to get right.

Gravatar Keegan I'll be surprised if we don't win one within the next 5 years. After all he took WV to prominence in seven, and their starting point was a lot lower than ours. Give him two to get his guys in (most notably a qb) and from there it's on. Stoops, Carroll and Urban all won one within 3. I think that goes to show what can be done with enough tradition to lure insane talent and the coaching to get results from it. We've got both, so I'm not too worried about going 3-9 pretty much ever. After all, it's not like we hired someone with the same amount of head coaching experience as Shamu and the physical appearance to match. God, Charlie Weiss fat jokes and pointing out ND's 3-9 just never get old.

Gravatar And he misspelled Recknagel.

Gravatar And actually I have heard the 7 inning double headers may be going away. I don't understand how thats necessarily justified. For some reason I would see the Big 10 teams playing even less games a year than their competition. Most southern schools don't have to worry about snow outs or the particularly bad weather the Big10 faces. I'm not saying its an unfair advantage, I for one like the 7 inning double headers. It has forced a much higher demand of pitching. Playing less games wouldn't necessarily be bad either because we would avoid more situations where sweeping the last place team doesn't hurt our RPI.

Gravatar Waymen -"First, I would imagine that UM is more popular than MSU, but I am not from the state of Michigan, having only gone to school at UM."

Coming from a family that's been in Michigan for quite some time, I would have to disagree. While I am a proud UM alum (my kids are going to be Wolverine fans regardless), my family is evenly split between the blue and the green. Sports aside, it's great that MI has two Big Ten schools with strong educational programs throughout. Whether my kids want to be teachers, lawyers, engineers, whatever... there are two fantastic in-state schools for them. Our alma mater attracts more out-of-state kids, which somewhat weakens the in-state presence. This isn't a bad thing(see recruiting), but I would agree with the 50/50 in-state split.

Gravatar @ Ninja Football

"Keegan, I'll be surprised if we don't win one within the next 5 years."

I won't be. Bow down.

Gravatar @formerly: And he misspelled Recknagel.

That, too, but I'm not the most careful typist and so I try not to throw stones about that sort of thing.

Do you have any links to an explanation of the rationale between the decreased B10 scheduling? The Big Ten site is worse than useless.

Gravatar "I would be surprised, not shocked, if UM won a NC in 5."

That's a good way of putting it. I think it could happen, but I think it would most likely happen in around 7 years. But a lot of coaches seem to win their NCs in the first few years of their tenure with their school. I am offering this more as an interesting stat than as some "proof" that RR will win an NC within 5 years. Since 2000:

Oklahoma - Bob Stoops' 2nd year
Miami - Coker's 2nd or 1st year, doesn't really count because he inherited an amazing team
UOS - Tressel's 2nd year
USC (shared) - Carrol's 3rd year
LSU (shared) - Saban's 4th year
USC - Carrol's 4th (fuck you Carrol!)
Texas - Mack Brown's 7th year
Florida - The Pope's 2nd year
LSU - Les Miles's 3rd year

Now, RR is completely overhauling the offense and doesn't have the right QB yet. He has tons of talent but not in all of the right skill positions. Florida stands out, as Urban Meyer also brought his spread, but didn't Zook also use the spread offense? RR also has to go up against OSU. Well, so did Meyer in his 2nd year and we know how that turned out. For various reasons, I am not predicting a Michigan NC within 5 years.

Gravatar Thanks, Detroiter.

Gravatar I'm trying to remember where I read it. It might have been an old post on bigtenhardball.blogspot.com .

Gravatar The only discouraging stat is that the offensive genius Charlie Weis still hasn't won an NC, but he'll get there, just as soon as he can get Notre Dame to beat the Irish.

Gravatar @Tim Waymen;

I think you are overlooking the popularity of MSU. The school's student base is largely in-state with an overall school size that is a good deal larger than U-M. So, right there, you're essentially creating new fans every year.

Second, the Southeastern part of the state and western/northern parts of the state have very different fan bases and its hard to judge overall fan preferences on one geographic sample. Both Detroit papers cover U-M quite signifcantly (the News more so than the Freep) but Lansing is primarily MSU fans and GR is evenly split. Detroit is probably 70% U-M fans, etc. In fact, Michigan is a state where the cultural heritage is altered dramatically from region to region. The UP bears almost no similarity to Southwest Michigan...much in the same way that Eastern Washington State and Western Washington state are quite different from each other.

Finally, as someone who has lived in Ohio for a very signifcant period of time, I'd argue that your depiction of a Bosnia/Serbia divide is quite off base as it relates to OSU/U-M fandom. Ohio is primarily OSU territory, especially so in the rural areas. Toledo is perhaps the only decent sized city with a proportionate divide of Michigan/OSU fans.

Michigan is obviously more popular nationally, based in part on its alumni base. Unlike MSU products, many U-M students are from out-of-state and leave the state upon graduation. Plus, the profile of U-M professional programs (law, medical, b-school) is such that visability is absolutely fostered.

Gravatar what's going on in the recruiting world? Fill me in boys.

Gravatar Using the unscientific criteria of "most read" stories in the Detroit News, I would rate Southeast's Michigan's interest in teams as follows:

1.) Lions
2.) Michigan Football
3.) Tigers
4.) Red Wings
5.) Pistons
6.) MSU Football
7.) MSU Basketball
8.) Michigan Hockey
9.) Michigan Softball
10.) Michigan Baseball
11.) Detroit Shock
12.) Detroit Demolition
13.) Belbin & Agosto Ice Dancing
14.) Competitive Eating
15.) Curling
16.) Greater Wayne County Bocce Ball League
17.) Under 60 Frisbee Golf
18.) Michigan Basketball

In general I would agree that Southeast Michigan is 70% UM, GR is 50% UM and the rest of the state is 40% UM. Northwestern OH is 50% UM when Tressell isn't winning every damn year. As a whole, I have no idea what this comes out to.

Gravatar You have to take into consideration that MSU has more in state alum because, well, just about anybody can get in. But the breakdown is usually given thusly: UM is far more popular in SE Michigan, and upstate. MSU is more poular out west and in the UP HAHAHAHAHA!

Newsome: The Penn State "visit" was a combine there, and by all reports, Newsome was trying to do some recruiting for the Maize 'n Blue. Newsome is solid, solid. He seemed to get a bit jittery when Tate Forcier's name kept popping up, but UM backed off and according to Scout, has pretty much backed off on Tate (although they're probably sending him flowers and a box of chocolates once a week just in case). This class looks pretty solid from Big Will on down to McNeal (Scout says McNeal actually was a silent commtt as far back as March).
Things are looking good, ladies. Remember last year's final flourish, always.

Gravatar ninja,

Fat Charlie and 3-9 jokes are like videos of guys getting hit in the junk. they are always funny and they never get old. i could see a nc in under 5, i just don't want to say it like it's inevitable that they win one. but, with a b10 that is getting worse and worse it should make the road there a little easier. an undefeated um team, no matter how bad the conference is, will always be in a nc.

Gravatar So which three schools will leave the Big 11 to clear the path for RR's dominance?

Gravatar I admitted that I wouldn't know enough about whether MI is split UM/MSU 50-50. I just stated my view as an out-of-stater.

As for likening the UM-OSU rivalry to the Serb-Croat conflict and comparing Jim Tressel to Milosevic, I said that because each country had little pockets of people of the other nationality in it (i.e. there were pockets of Serb nationalists in Croatia and the other way around). I would also like to apologize to the governments of Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia, as well as to the local consulates. I am sorry for comparing the Vukovar Massacre to Woody's beatdown on UM in 1968, and for comparing Tudjman's election fraud to Jim Tressel's lying about the coaches' poll in the beginning of the 2006 season.

Gravatar Charlie Weis is the first ever pachyderm human mix. He was secretly engineered by he government to create a new breed of large, durable pack animal that would be well-suited for the sub-tropical bush. Unfourtunately, they ran into stamina issues, as the Government could not, genetically, create a heart large enough to sustain such a mammoth being. Additionally, they found Charlie (the project's original name was Project Beast War)was creating an inordinate amount of flem and developed large, saggy breasts.

He was set to be euthanized/destroyed by the CIA but misplaced compassion interviened. offically, the report read:

"We created this beast and through no fault of its own, it is weak, and stupid, and slow. To kill it would be to indict ourselves. We are not god yet we, in a fiery flourish, sought his role. We cannot kill this wretched animal, no matter how vile and sluggish we fear him to be."

Gravatar Charlie is one miraculous MSU meltdown from being 0-fer against them, and UM has pasted the Irish two years in a row. There's no reason to believe they'll beat the Sparties this year in Lansing, and UM is SOOooo in his head that they'll probably choke and lay a huge egg in that game.
And yet, he feels compelled to talk shit. Dammit, when you lose to Navy for the first time in 400 years, you just gotta shut the hell up!

Gravatar For Charlie, pride doesn't just come before the fall, it comes during and after as well.

Gravatar baseball schedule changes.

i haven't hear an official company line, but i'd guess the reasons are partly,

1) everyone else does it (i think). but more acutely, it allows for your better pitchers to be used in OOC games. you'd get you 4th-5th starters mid week instead of the 5th-6th.

2) they may try to play a full schedule... no skipping teams (like PU, UM this year).

3) the 7inn games are really kind of silly, and in terms of total inns played, they are only losing 1/2 a game, so it's not that big of a deal.

Gravatar U-M football coach Rich Rodriguez admitted he has a lot of people to meet in his role as the program’s new face.

Bit by bit, he’s trying. At the Saturday night gala dinner to raise money for the new Mott Children’s Hospital, Rodriguez tried to meet as many of the former Wolverines as he could.

A number of them played in the golf event Sunday and a few shared their thoughts on the new coach.

Jeff Backus, former offensive lineman
“I don’t have any first-hand impressions. My only impression is what I read in the media. Right now it’s a little bit different than what the University of Michigan and Michigan men are used to, so much attention in the media. But I’m sure the more he’s known, the more positive it will be. I always have (come to practices) and I still plan on doing that. I think it’s important, no matter who the coach is, for former players to show their face and support the program and be part of the tradition that’s so special here.”

Jay Riemersma, former tight end
“I met him last night. Favorable (impression.) I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s going to accomplish. He’s got a good resume and got new stuff... He did a great job (Saturday) night pulling us aside and saying hey, come down and see us anytime you want and I’m going to have to take him up on that. It’s the policy they’ve had for a number of years here, I expect it will continue and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish.”

Charles Woodson, former defensive back
“I met him a couple months ago and saw him again last night. I’m pulling for him. Our program has got to get back on top and we’ve got to beat Ohio State. That’s the main thing... People are excited. They really don’t know what to expect. It’s a new system and much different from what Michigan is used to, but people are welcoming the change and hopefully he’ll come in and get the people he needs to run his system and we’ll win ballgames. That’s all we’re worried about.”

Gravatar Question: Why is the BBQ at the Big House allowed as an "unofficial recruitment event" under NCAA rules? Is it because recruits had to pay for travel themselves?

Gravatar Jason Maxiell eats babies, not Charlie Weis.

https://56891.spreadshirt.com/us/...-Babies- 1871540

Gravatar Burned. Ouch.

Gravatar Most conferences do the 3 game sets because it eliminates head-to-head ties as well. The problem with not skipping teams is weather again though. We would have to start the Big10 season a week earlier (we tried having 3 games that weekend this season against oakland/ipfw, 3 of 4 were rain/snow/frozen out), or eliminate the tournament. Eliminating the tournament would be idiotic because it generally allows more Big10 teams into the NCAA.
